Um, thanks.  Now I'm even more confused.  Can anyone explain this to me like I'm a fourth grader?

Imperiale was on UWL's recruiting list for this upcoming season.  I believe she was an All State 1st Team member (5 players) last year in high school.  This basically means that she was one of the top 5 players in the state according to the organization that published it.  Usually players on the 1st team go to D1 schools.  I believe that the last 1st team all state player that went to a WIAC school was Nya Geske (to UWEC, then UWW).  Former UWO player, Kay Mikolazak??, I think was a 2nd Team member that same year.

Great.  What does any of that have to do with Stevens Point or somebody transferring to UWM as godawgs referred to?

Nothing to do with Stevens Point ... that was the first sentence.

The stud freshman in the second sentence being referred to was Imperiale who I heard was not going to play at UWL (although listed on their recruit list). godawgs replied with the information she may be transferring to Milwaukee at semester.
And she is GOOD. Too bad for LaX.

Just Bill

Got it.  Since godawgs never mentioned UWL in the post, I assumed we were still talking about UWSP.  Silly me for thinking sentence 1 had something to do with sentence 2.  ::)

Understandable. And people say punctuation and grammar shouldn't matter on a message board :)

Now that school is back in session, have you found out any further information on the situation at UWO?

Here is the situation for Oshkosh concerning last year's team.

Arin Lane
Kayla Sharpee
Dawn LaBonte
Aubrey Wisen

Those girls will NOT be returning to the team for various reasons. Talking to Coach Schumacher, she recruited an injured class. Sounds like she had no idea about the injury history of her players, but this is D-III, not D-I. I'm sure athletes can hide that info.

Now, as far as the media rumor mill, Jenna Southward is also a ?

and...Amanda Dempsey is a Spanish minor, and UWO has all spanish minors study abroad. She will be in Spain in Jan. So she's out this season.

Oshkosh might lose 6 of its 9 players from last year's team. That's the bad news. The good news, this years crop is much better than last year's, though the end result might not be any different.

Then again, who knows this year in the WIAC for both Women's and Men's. Anything can happen (and probably will).

godawgs

sorry, i didn't mean to be so confusing.  i simply meant that i though steven's point is going to be good this year.  i've confirmed the rumor that imperiale is transfering to milwaukee at semester and going to play ball there. i was looking forward to seeing her play in the wiac, but i guess i'll have to wait and watch the horizon league. hope that clears everything up.

Just Bill

Stunning turn of events over the last few year's for a proud Oshkosh program.  I thought Schumacher might struggle in the transition from high school, but I never would have predicted this kind of turmoil.

Mr. DT,

Any idea if those students remain enrolled at UW-O or have any moved on.  I know many of those players were also coveted by other WIAC schools.  With Southworth, Lane and Wisen all from central Wisconsin it probably wouldn't be suprising to see at least one of them end up on the Pointers' roster in the future.

Are these personality clashes with the coach or just a lack of desire to continue playing basketball?  If you don't care to share what you know, I would respect that of course.

Is there a team in the WIAC playing a women's D1 team early this season?  I know the Point women played the Badgers last year...thanks

Just Bill

Stout is playing the Badgers in an exhibition game this year.  The schools have a rotating schedule, but some of them choose not to participate in it.

This what I can comment on.

Sharpee has bad knees and can't play ever again it sounds like. Wisen has a bad back , so that's two injuried players.

I can't comment about Lane and Labonte. Southward, like I said, is still a question mark.

There's always the rumors that spread about players not liking particular coaches because they are too tough at UWO. Funny, I thought this was college, not high school. I know its D-III and these athletes compete because they love the sport, but anyone that has participated in anything know that no one likes to lose. Oh, and when you play in the WIAC, the toughest conference in the land, you have to be tough to survive.

Now, if those rumors are true about certain players, then good riddence. Coach Schumacher or any Collegiate coach don't need athletes that don't posses the attitude it takes to succeed on the court (and in some cases, off the court).

Coach Schumacher seems happier with this new recruiting class than last year. So things might look up for Oshkosh. And with Whitney Tyriver the Senior Captain, I think she will be a good influence on the new crop of players, and show what it means to be tough.

Just Bill

I agree with you, but all coaches have different styles and not every style is compatible with every player.  And not every coach communicates and handles players and situations correctly 100% of the time.

Perhaps Schumacher needs to work a little harder on checking her recruits to make sure that they are compatible to her coaching style.  Fair assessment?

I don't get the "history of injuries" problem.  That's about the simplest thing there is to check out during the recruiting process.  If they truly recruited a bunch of kids not knowing they all had lingering injuries, then that's pretty sloppy work.  Sometimes in D-III you gladly take a kid that had a past injury that may have kept them from going D-I or D-II, but I've never heard of a coach who didn't know the injury history of the kids they recruit.

Would have been interesting if Stout's rotation had come up last year when Duoss was still around to see how she would have competed.

Point thought the same thing when they played the Badgers the year after Nechuta graduated.

P.S.  I believe Duoss did play against the Badgers when she was at UIC.  I remember watching it on TV.  Or perhaps UIC was playing UWGB.
