JB, which schools have opted out of the Badger rotation?

Just Bill

I don't know for sure.  We know of course that Platteville, Stevens Point and Stout are in.  When it was propsed, I was told that Eau Claire and River Falls were two schools that were fairly adamant about NOT participating.  I believe that Oshkosh wanted in when Coach Ruder was there, but I don't know if that has changed.  I don't know anything about where Whitewater, La Crosse and Superior stand.

Word on campus is RF Forward Kelsie Flanscha has left the team.

Falcons are barely returning 15 ppg this season. Could be a long year without some girls stepping up.

Thanks for the info!  We don't usually get much Falcon information on the board, so I hope you stick around for the season.

Geesh!  Players are dropping left and right.  Besides UWP, UWL, UWO and RF, are there any other conference schools that are missing significant players that were expected to be on their team this season?

UWRF

Yeah ill be around for the year checking in.  I did full-time play-by-play last year for the women but now I am taking over the mens team.  I will be doing some womens games this year however (i.e. away double headers).

Mr. Downtown

Talking to Coach Schumacher today she believes that her group of players will have more basketball smarts, and be tougher than last year's team.

18 players reported to the first day of practice for Oshkosh. So I don't think its the coach, just that crop of players that she dealt with last season.

Returning from Oshkosh last year
Whitney Tyriver (Possible POY??)
Jessica Abbitz (Coach Schumacher was most impressed by her)
Beth Garman
Beth Hebl

So Oshkosh will be tough on the blocks, we'll see how the back court sorts out.

By the way, Tyriver's position has changed. Last year she was more of a 2/3, this year, she will be a 3/4 and guarding the oppositions best post player.

I'm not aware of any unexpected losses at Stout.

Starting guards will most likely be Joanna Bird and Lindsey Geissler - both seniors, but expect to see a lot of Lindsay Gerber and Char Edwards (both juniors), and sophomore Kim Stokke.

Several good freshman guards joining the squad also.  With two senior guards this year - we'll need them for sure next year...

Dani Boese (junior) and Julia Hirssig (sophomore) will be the veteran forwards returning who have had significant playing time.

Obviously we'll be depending on some young talent to fill out our forward positions - but our 3 freshman forward recruits all had excellent HS careers - 6'0" Shelby Churchill from Sheboygan, 5'9" Kristen Laramy and 6'0" Tricia VanVrede of Little Chute are the new freshman forwards.

We also have forward Coutney Reyzer of Altoona - she was originally recruited by UWEC for the 2004 season - not sure what happened there - but she listed as a Jr on our roster now and had some excellent HS credentials.

It'll be interesting to see how quickly these four adjust to the speed of Stout's game and who steps up in the battle to be the 5th starter???

Looking forward to going to Madison next weekend to meet all the newcomers and see how they fit in with the veterans.  Not expecting the Runnin' Lady Blue Devils to win against the Badgers - but it should be fun to see some BB action!

Does anyone know why, some blugold's did not return this year...i.e - Lubeck, Green...etc?

Does anyone know whether the game with Sout and UW Badger women has been canceled?  Believe the Badger women are now playing St. Norbert?

Don't know about any kids specifically but Eau Claire brings in about 8-10 new freshmen a year. Survival of the fittest

I am not sure of exact reasons but I would imagine its due mostly to the fact that UWEC did not have any seniors last year, so there were very limited roster spots to fill (if any).  Add in the fact that there are new recruits, so some players have to go.  Otherwise they would have a bench as long as Stouts ;D  Its been pretty common (at least at UWEC) that some of the bench players don't return the following season.

From looking at the UWEC roster, the only player who got significant minutes last season who is not on the roster is Angie Foschi.  I would imagine she is not playing because of her leg injuries the last few years.

Alot of familiar faces in the WARHAWK women's scrimmage Saturday morning.  As far as I could tell we haven't lost anyone we were counting on.

Is that a bad thing??? ???

Depth can be a very good thing, at least that's what I've been told... ;)
