I agree with the commish in principle, but I think common sense should have ruled the day.

IMHO, if:

1. Both teams are in agreement
2. The change doesn't result in additional missed class time and/or additional travel expenses, and
3. There is ample time to reschedule officials

then the change should be permitted.

Re: Kimberly girls (my take on it)
Nikki is older Wyngaard--junior this year and has never gotten a lot of playing time, although she seems to play quite well when she gets the chance; not sure how she ended up at Stout--AAU connection?. Was there a previous Kimberly area player there? Becky W and Van Vreede were outstanding players for Kimberly--both all-conference picks and Van Vreede honorable mention all-state, and good friends. Becky may have been aiming for Stout all along, Van Vreede had some different looks and chose Stout. Suffered a stress fracture somewhere along the way and is getting ready to come back. Van Vreede has a sister in Stevens Point, but didn't seem to consider going there; wonder why Oshkosh didn't get her/them (Wyngaards and Van Vreede)...like many freshmen, maybe they needed to put just the right distance between them and home: far enough away to prevent drop-in visits, close enough to get home when they need to.

Maybe the Leader-Telegram should call the NFL commish and FOX and see if they will move the Packer game to a different time.  ;D

Very Funny  :D ;D

Could you imagine that phone call between the Comissioners?

I don't think it was due to a lack of interest....  I know of at least two times last season that I saw Coach Schumacher in the stands for a Kimberly game.

The NFL Commissioner did allow the change of a Packers preseason game (last year?) when it was going to be on a Friday night and it would conflict with HS football games...

Badger

The Packers are just a football team from Green Bay.

I missed the VIKINGS play San Diego this year in order to travel to Madison to see the Stout women play the Badgers (and I'm a VIKING season ticket holder...).   My younger brother was very happy that I did, as he and his wife got to see Adrian Peterson set the all time NFL single game rushing record from my seats that day.

My main point was, if you aren't going to the Packer game, you can record it and watch it later.  You might be familar with devices that can do that - DVR's, VCR's, etc.... ;D

For those of you that follow the Stout program pretty closely......

How are the three girls from Kimberly playing this season?  I looked at the stats for this years team, but stats can only tell you so much.

I have been to many of the games this year - the Badgers, MSU, Northwestern, St. Scholastica, Bemidji and the Eau Claire game.  I've also listened to several on line.

Trish is playing VERY well, and has EARNED her playing time.  I see her becoming one of the outstanding WIAC players in future years.  As phoenix_rising posted, Trish is recuperating - and as I understand close to be 100%.  Sure would like to have her on the floor when we play WW and Point in the games next week!!!

Nikki has been on the team, but hasn't had a lot of playing time.  I just can't recall how well she's actually played when she's been on the floor to be honest.  Key factor is, I can't recall her making any bad mistakes - I think that's a good thing.

Becky has not played much at the games I've attended, so I really can't comment much.  I do know that Coach T is very happy that she decided on Stout.  I think she will get her playing time when the time comes.  We will lose three Sr guards after this season (two of them starters).

Champ and Phoenix-
Thanks for the replies!!!  Was just curious as to what they looked like in person.  Sounds like a lot of positives!!

EC big over Superior.  Superior really struggled on the offensive end.  In fact they hit the double digit mark scoring wise with 11min left in the half..........the 2nd half that is.  Yes, that right, Superior had only 9pts with 11min left in the 2nd half.  EC did play well defensively, but really needs to pick it up on offense with UWW coming to town on Saturday.

That would confirm the description of the Superwomen as "disorganized." Maybe we sent the hockey team instead of basketball. These errors can happen. Were any of the players carrying sticks?

Yep... Final was UWEC 54-21...

Game was basically over from right after the get go, as the 'Golds jumped to a 12-0 lead, and led at half 33-9... Used the press a lot in the first half of the first half, too. Didn't create  a lot of turnovers off it, but may have helped wear down a Superior team that was exerting a lot of energy to try to stay in a game with a squad of only 12 players...

Blugolds forced a lot of one-and-dones on the defensive end... Neither team shot well from the 3-point land; they ugly stats of the night were  UWEC was 3-16, for 18.8%, while Superior was 2-18, for 11.1 %.

Leading scorers, and only ones in double figures for either team, were Rachel Mueggenborg with 11, and Heidi Arciszewski with 10. Rebounds were scattered all across the board for both teams...

Both teams were able to get the bench players some PT, too. Golds are 10-3 and 4-0, while Superior falls to 3-9 and 0-4...

Other highlights:

Four of five youngsters made two regulation free throws in 20 seconds to collect $100 from the local newspaper. The other one got $50... Thems some shooting, considering how many adults I've seen over the years during halftime contests who don't even draw iron...

JJ Jumper was in the house. He's the NCAA mascot, and puts on a silly show... Hats off to the UWEC dance team, too, which performed at half time... Some of the members must have given up a few days in their semester break to be on hand for the game tonight...

Whitewater comes to town on Saturday... Should be a good one from Zorn...

I have to say that the EC-Superior women's game sounded ugly all around. With Superior unable to score ten points in the first 30 minutes of the game, Eau Claire should have won that game by 90. Did Superior suck EC into disorganization, too? Maybe that's the game plan. How did Coach E take it? I'll bet she was tearing her hair out.

Ha, ha. Game plan.  :D That's a good one.

This is where Superior was six years ago. I thought they were progressing last year; I guess Katie Moench (spelling approximate) was more of a factor than I thought. It will be interesting to see how Mulhern addresses this problem. First, he's going to have to do some serious recruiting. I know he doesn't like his players to drink or swear, but maybe he's going to have to get at least one animal on the team. Second, he's going to have to design an offense that this team can play. Third, he probably has to demand some leadership from his upper-classwomen. The game I sat through, I saw pouting and whining. That ain't gonna win games. Moench had an amazing ability to remain unprovoked; could be the power of prayer, but I suspect there was more to it.

EC played well early on, but a bit mentally out of it after that.  I think it was a combination of them knowing that they would win rather easily and perhaps thinking ahead to Saturday's showdown with UWW.  Whatever it was, their play will have to improve by Saturday if they want a chance at beating UWW.

Quote from: hoops49 on January 02, 2008, 11:53:44 PMI'm getting 21 from their roster that is on their website.

So you researched Stout enough to know that they had 21 players come out for the team at the start of the season.  Great!

But did you take the time to research the last game?  Apparently not.  Maybe you should do better investigative work before posting here.

Stout's starters total playing time in that last game:

Julia Hirssig - 15 minutes

Lindsey Geissler - 17 minutes

Joanna Bird - 18 minutes

Charlee Edwards - 12 minutes

Dani Boese - 11 minutes

In the second half of the game, the starters never even broke a sweat with the following playing times:

Julia Hirssig - 3 minutes

Lindsey Geissler - 5 minutes

Joanna Bird - 5 minutes

Charlee Edwards - 3 minutes

Dani Boese - 3 minutes

Coach T took Stout's normal full court press off midway through the first half.  Every player on the team had at LEAST 7 minutes of playing time.  A lot of the "sub and run" (your words) was done with third or fourth stringers subbing for second or third stringers

Stout opened the season with an extremely difficult non-conference schedule - playing the Badgers (exhibition), and DII teams from Mankato, St. Cloud and Bemidji.

As already noted, Stout went down to Florida to play in a tournament.  The only request Coach T made of the scheduler is that they not play UW LaCrosse - as UWL is a conference school.  One should understand how tournament scheduling works, before casting aspersions that it was Stout's intention to get matched up against a pair of "cupcakes" in a holiday tournament in Florida.

QuoteI don't know how you can say the size of roster doesn't matter. It sure does. Depth....fresh players. That is why Stout is so successful.

How do you explain Stout's loss to UWEC (oh how it pains me to say that...) in the conference opener then?  EC has fewer players, so they must have lost, right???

No, EC was a better team (that day anyway).

Stout and Coach T have been successful because of a lot of hard work and dedication from the players and the coaching staff.    It takes that in order to make all those players function cohesively as a team.

Basketball is a team game - and the players must play together as a unit to obtain their success.

If your thoughts and theories have only been strengthened in this recent discussion, may I suggest that it is only because of hardening of the arteries in your brain... ;)

Actually I had researched more than what you thought I did. EVERY SINGLE PLAYER played in that last tournament game. Nobody played less than 7 minutes which is why I STILL stand by Stout's usual "lets run em till they drop on their a@#%s" style of play. Sub in..sub out...sub in...sub out... Everybody that has watched Stout over the years knows this.

I never said it was Stout's intention to get paired up with easy teams. Go back and reread my post. I said, "it's too bad Stout had no competition". Don't put words into my mouth.

The loss to EC? They both played with 12 players. It was a good matchup and the more talented team won.

Hardening of arteries in my brain??  Nope, don't think so. I just dare to call it like I see it. You don't have to like what I say or agree with it. There will be some disagreements on these boards from time to time.

Seems like I hit a nerve...;)

There goes your "Sub in..sub out...sub in...sub out..." theory.  Both teams played 12 players.  It makes it easy when you prove me right with your own words...

We can dispute whether EC is the more talented team later, but they outplayed us that night for sure.

You called what you didn't see...  That is the problem with your position.  I didn't like what you said and I didn't agree with it because you are wrong.  Sure there will be some disagreements on this board, but you are the only one (so far, anyway) maintaining your current erroneous position.

Seems like we (myself and some others) hit a nerve...;)
