Quotetheir play will have to improve by Saturday if they want a chance at beating UWW.

It's not unusual for talented teams to play up or down to the level of competition. I used to see it in high school games--which, of course, is far different in terms of the level of play--where a weak team exudes so much weakness it gets in the way of the better team playing its game.

Those games are the ones where you cringe every time there's contact, because it's usually caused by someone who's out of control. That's when people get hurt.

WHITEWATER never trailed but LaCrosse kept the score close early and trailed 18-14 at the 10 minute mark.  However WHITEWATER turned it up a notch or two at that point, assumed a double digit lead and though LaX cut it to 8 and 9 points led 41-28 at the half.   The second half was all WHITEWATER as they quickly pushed the lead to 20+ points and saw it grow to as many as 35 before finishing at 92-62.

Lyndsey Buechner led the WARHAWKS with 19 points and reached the 1,000 point career plateau finishing with 1001 points.  Kelsey Henrickson went 6-6 from the floor for 16 points.  Heidi Sontag scored 13 points, Tiffany Morton 12 and Rachael Woolever 11 to round out five players in double figures.  Morton led the team in rebounding with 7 boards.

WHITEWATER'S pressure defense was again a significant factor as LaX turned the ball over 25 times including 13 steals.

The win keeps the WARHAWKS team record win streak intact as they improve to 14-0, 5-0 and the stage is set for the showdown with Eau Claire this weekend.   It was the sixth time this season in which they have scored 90 or more points.

Quote from: hoops49 on January 10, 2008, 01:52:19 AMThe loss to EC? They both played with 12 players. It was a good matchup and the more talented team won.

I just dare to call it like I see it. You don't have to like what I say or agree with it. There will be some disagreements on these boards from time to time.

Seems like I hit a nerve...;)

There goes your "Sub in..sub out...sub in...sub out..." theory.  Both teams played 12 players.  It makes it easy when you prove me right with your own words...

We can dispute whether EC is the more talented team later, but they outplayed us that night for sure.

You called what you didn't see...  That is the problem with your position.  I didn't like what you said and I didn't agree with it because you are wrong.  Sure there will be some disagreements on this board, but you are the only one (so far, anyway) maintaining your current erroneous position.

Seems like we (myself and some others) hit a nerve...;)

Seeing as I started the discussion and got feedback from 3 different posters I think it's fair to say I hit a nerve. ;)   ;)

That's the trouble with message boards in general. Everyone thinks they are right and that's the way it is. Period.  Go ahead and have the last word Champ....I'm sure you will...;)

Good luck to all teams for the rest of the season. Should be a good finish.

Mr. Downtown

Was last night's EC vs Super game a record last night on two things?

1) Lowest score in WIAC history for a regular season game by a team. (Not WSUS, or whatever it was called before the WIAC)

2) Lowest Combined Score in WIAC history (They only scored 75 points combined. Ouch)

Who cares that much about this silly game of basketball, anyway?  On a more important matter, BW, has your coach had her baby yet?

No, not yet.   But that's ok.  I misunderstood something that I'd overheard.  The baby isn't due until late February.

Hoops, you are a wise man.  With the exception of Mrs Champ no one gets the last word with Champ.  I repeat, no one. :D ;)

It was the WSUC  (Wisconsin State University Conference).    The 1969-70 WARHAWKS own the conference record for the best scoring defense having allowed an average of fewer than 25 points/game.

The 1997-98 Oshkosh women have the best scoring defense in the WIAC era with less than 48 points/game allowed.

I haven't been able to figure out a game though.  For some reason the WIAC keeps records for the best of, most of and highest but none for the worst of, least of or lowest.

It was actually the WWIAC.  The WSUC was only for the men's.

Thanks, Bill.  I tend to forget that there were two seperate conferences in those days.

Yep... Final was UWEC 54-21...

Game was basically over from right after the get go, as the 'Golds jumped to a 12-0 lead, and led at half 33-9... Used the press a lot in the first half of the first half, too. Didn't create  a lot of turnovers off it, but may have helped wear down a Superior team that was exerting a lot of energy to try to stay in a game with a squad of only 12 players...

Blugolds forced a lot of one-and-dones on the defensive end... Neither team shot well from the 3-point land; they ugly stats of the night were  UWEC was 3-16, for 18.8%, while Superior was 2-18, for 11.1 %.

Leading scorers, and only ones in double figures for either team, were Rachel Mueggenborg with 11, and Heidi Arciszewski with 10. Rebounds were scattered all across the board for both teams...

Both teams were able to get the bench players some PT, too. Golds are 10-3 and 4-0, while Superior falls to 3-9 and 0-4...

Other highlights:

Four of five youngsters made two regulation free throws in 20 seconds to collect $100 from the local newspaper. The other one got $50... Thems some shooting, considering how many adults I've seen over the years during halftime contests who don't even draw iron...

JJ Jumper was in the house. He's the NCAA mascot, and puts on a silly show... Hats off to the UWEC dance team, too, which performed at half time... Some of the members must have given up a few days in their semester break to be on hand for the game tonight...

Whitewater comes to town on Saturday... Should be a good one from Zorn...

I was at the EC game last night and I  would not say that Ec press in the game all they did was play full court one on one man press and set not traps

I understand that in Wisconsin, some people think that the Packers are more important than God.

I just don't think that a rational person would hold them in that kind of esteem.

Let's be real - these are grown men being paid outrageous sums of money to play a game.  I enjoy the game alot, but am able to keep things in perspective.

I'll be driving two hours to watch the Stout women play BB tomorrow.  I'll be able to watch the Packer game on my HD DVR when I get home.  That works for me...;)

And BW (or is it BD...;) ) - hoops49 had his say and I can just leave him have the last word.  We've all read his posts and have digested them for what they are worth.

Badgerw- your team has become quite the offensive threat; going to be hard to beat a team with 5 girls scoring in double digits. They are certainly peaking at the right time of the season and have caught alot of us off guard, that's for sure.

Should be a good game on Saturday. I'll be there, but I sure hate to miss the Packers. There's not much point to watching a taped game once you know the outcome.

Ok, I won't count this as it then.  :D

hoops, we've been playing very well thus far but there's a long way to go yet and plenty can happen.   You can't take anything for granted.  Winning in Zorn is the next challenge.  EC is going to be better than the teams we've beaten recently.  Hopefully we continue to play as we have.   If we do our opponent will have their hands full.   It's tough to beat a team that has both a strong inside and outside game.  It's just difficult to defend against both.

Regardless it should be a fun game to watch.

UWEC gives UWW its first lost of the season, 63-60.  EC controlled the first half and played well, leading 29-19 at the half.  About half way through the 2nd half, UWW started creating turnovers and EC went cold from the field.  EC was stuck on 39 for quite a while and UWW took advantage by going on a big run to take the lead.  UWW's lead got as big as 7pts.  At this point it looked like UWW's press had worn down the Golds.  However, it was not to be as EC fought back to take the lead.  UWW had to start fouling, but EC missed 4 straight FTs.  Down one with 6 seconds left, Hendrickson slipped and the ball rolled out of bounds.  Fremstad iced the victory with 2 FTs.

Very well played game.  I am impressed with this season's UWW squad.  They got a good inside-outside game and can really get after it on the press.  EC did a good job defensively on UWW's posts.  It was a good win for EC!  Now they have to keep it up.

In other action:

UWO over Sup
Point blows out UWP
Stout over UWL by 1 on a Hirrsig layup at the buzzer.  Stout trailed 29-4 with 6min left in the 1st half.  They then take a 5pt lead with 1min left.  UWL retakes the lead, setting up the Hirssig shot.
