If Superior were to manage to get into post-season play, I'm pretty sure they'd be doing all the traveling--in case you were worried about the UWS budget. Which it doesn't have, by the way. I don't believe $ has been distributed to the universities yet; or maybe it has, but UWS has poured it all into renovating an administrator's office.

Tell me how you really feel about that.  Like, is it a really nice office now?

Well, as you know, I always play my cards close to the vest. I  like to come across as impartial and unbiased. ;D

That's not what those WW guys are saying on the men's board ::)

I ain't afraid of them/ him. I've got truth, justice and the American way on my side. Besides, I'm an adult.

Good luck to the Stouters tomorrow, although I'm not sure they need luck.

I'll try to catch your broadcast in the morning; Milwaukee Journal Sentinel did a nice write up about Buchanan; I look forward to hearing him. Now, if I can just roll out of bed that early...

Halftime

EC 22
WW 30

EC played pretty good for the first 13 minutes and lead for most of the half.  However, they went cold late and also had some turnovers on WW's press in the last couple minutes.  WW hit a couple late 3s also.  Witt needs a break as she looked pretty tired late in the half, playing almost the entire first half.

Stout 39
UWO 27

UWL 36

UWP won easily over RF earlier today.

WW over EC 60-50.  Difference in this one was the offensive rebounding of WW.

Difference in this one is WW's press beat us and none of our shots were going down whereas WW was hitting their shots in the 2nd half.

Stout's Julia Hirssig (last week's WIAC Player of the Week) set another personal best yesterday - scoring 27 against the UWO Titans.

Midway through the first half,Stout build up a double digit lead that they maintained for most of the game, led by Hirssig's scoring from inside the paint - 16 points in the first half for the Sophomore from Rochester, MN.

The Titans did manage to cut into Stout's lead in the second half, pulling to within six points with five minutes left, 62-56, on a bucket by Whitney Tyriver (top Titan scorer with 18 points).

But then Lindsey Gerber popped her 2nd three pointer of the night and Kim Stokke  stole the ball on the ensuing Titan possession and was fouled - making both FT's to build the lead back to 11.  The game was never in doubt from that point on.

Next up - the Pointers from UWSP on Wednesday and then the Warhawks from WW.  Both games are at Johnson Fieldhouse so I'm hoping for some "home court advantage" in the rematch of the earlier back to back losses in January.

Go Lady Bluedevils!!!

Looking at the stats, it appears that the shooting percentage for the Golds didnt change all that much between the two halves (33.3 in the 1st compared to 32.1 in the second.  In the first half UWEC actually outshot WW 33.3% to 31.3.  The Warhawks percentage in the second half did improve to 41.4 from the field.

For the game, shooting percentages were 36% for the Warhawks and 32.7 for the Bluegolds.

The real difference was the number of shots (especially from 3 point land) and rebounds by the Lady Warhawks - 61 shots and 48 rebounds compared to 52 shots and 32 rebounds for the BG's.  From beyond the arc WW hit 6 of 21 compared to UWEC's 3 of 11 which resulted in 9 points of the final 10 point advantage.

UWEC did win the game at the charity stripe - hitting 13 of 17 (8 of 10 in the second half), while UWW only hit 10 of 16 (3 of 6 in the second half).

Congratulations to your Lady Warhawks, BW!!!

Champ,

I saw the Stout women for the first time in a while and I was impressed.  Julia H. was amazing, Char played very well, and the transition game (with post players leading the charge) was solid.  I think the new emphasis of post passes when the transition doesn't go is what will make Stout a force.  I have a feeling that this team is going to make some loud noises yet this year.

For WIAC women's basketball fans,  the Eau Claire Leader/Telegram is going to run a feature series on Coach Englund starting Monday morning called "A Day In The Life Of".  Should be interesting.

I haven't been able to make a game since the UWL game on 1/12.  Too much travel  ;D and too much work  >:(

Mrs. Champ's family Christmas in Coon Rapids yesterday, or we'd have been there yesterday.  Looks like I can make the Point game on Wednesday and Linda gets home from DC on Friday night so we'll be making the WW game also.

Julia, as well as the rest of the team, are going to have to have solid games this week.  With 2 W's, we'll be right in the thick of the WIAC battle.  With 2 losses, we'll be playing for home court advantage in the first round of the WIAC Tourney.

Mr. Downtown.

I have looked at the schedule and I believe EC is actually 6-1 for in confernce road games with their lone remaining road game at SP in a little over a week.  WW is 4-1 on the road.  So as of right now, EC would be the one seed and WW would be the 2 seed.  :)
