Mr. Downtown

Just finished my bracket, and I think the Point's women can make the Elite 8.

However, I just think that the region Whitewater and Eau Claire are in is too tough. I have both team's out in the 2nd round.

It would be great though to see a Sweet 16 match up of Eau Claire vs Whitewater!!

I'm assuming the women's games are at Quandt.  Better get in there and start shooting around to get familiar with the surrounds, lighting, depth etc!

I wouldn't assume that.  Typically, they've played 1st and 2nd round games at Berg and played Sectionals in Quandt.  That's the way it went in 2002 and 2004.  It may be different this time around since the 1st and 2nd rounds are now a four-team pod instead of single games.

I realize that Whitewater lost in the semis of the WIAC tourney, but it surprises me that they aren't hosting.  I guess two things come to mind:  Point is already hosting and they probably didn't want two WIAC schools hosting and Whitewater men are hosting and they have "seniority" the first weekend.  If both advance, the women could get the 2nd weekend and the men heading to either Ohio or Michigan (Hope College)...

The games on Friday will be in the Berg gym, at 6 PM and 8 PM.  The two winners will play on Saturday at 7 PM on Saturday.

If you notice, they were paired against the weakest team in that pod, so that makes me think they are the top "seed" of the four.  I think the UWW women were selected to host, but lost out because the men's program was also selected and had priority.

If UWW wins twice, I would bet they host a sectional, since one opponent comes from the Simpson pod and one comes from the DePauw pod, both relatively local.  All they have to do is fly in the winner of the Amherst pod and they've got a nice single flight sectional with UWW as the highest seed.

Yea, I would think Depauw would be in line to host over WW in terms of maybe a better team in the eyes of some people, but the whole distance thing makes things more difficult.  They are going to have a hard time playing Illinois Wesleyan though.  Playing in Shirk will be very tough.

I think I misspoke before.  The 2002 sectional was actually in Berg Gym, not Quandt.

According to this article (http://www.stevenspointjournal.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080304/SPJ02/803040489/1678/SPJsports) the games this weekend are in Berg.

WIAC All-conference performers came out today and Burns was POY and Coach Egner was COY.  I think both deserve this honor by the way the their seasons have been up to this point.  I was not really surprised by any of the first or honorable mention picks, but I really do like Sportsmanship Team.  A lot of those players really deserve that kind of recognition after a really good collegiate season.

I wonder what Carollo has to do to win the honor.  Picked to finish 7th last year she guided the team to 2nd and lost to Thomas who was picked to win the league and did.  This year picked to finish second she wins a share of the championship while Enger, picked to finish 3rd and finishing 3rd, wins the honor.

If you want to make the award Coach of the last month of the season Enger wins it hands down but it's called Coach of the Year and Carollo got the short stick again.

I'm not saying it's right and not saying it's fair but the women's COY award has had a strong popularity element to it in the past.  If the other coaches don't like you your chances are diminished.  Egner can attest to that in previous years as well.

Couldn't agree more, BW.  I am confused by your comment, Just Bill.  Please elaborate.

Yes, I too think that Carollo should have at least won it once in the past two seasons, probably more so last season.

Let me second that...

I will still say that Coach T earned the award last year by being the first WIAC coach to ever do a 3peat for WIAC Conference and WIAC Tournament Championships though.

But putting those two seasons that she together back to back, I don't understand how she was denied the honor this year.

Good luck against Manchester!!! 8)

Just so I am not confused, it is Coach of the Year, right?  Not Coach of the Past Couple Seasons?   ;)
