And Superior loses for the first time this season to Alverno, 54 - 47.

I'll wager this result says more about Superior than their 2-0 start did.

It probably does, Bill.

But none the less, I'm sure that for the players, coaches and the fans, a 2 - 0 start was a great feeling.

It may have been a simple moral victory, but for a program that has been so bad for so long, you take what you can get.

I was happy to see them start the year with two wins!

Superior women don't do all that badly outside the conference, and until two years ago(?) they had beaten River Falls a couple times for a couple of years. However, I agree, the losses this past weekend probably do represent them better than the 2-0 start. I watched them play CSS, a team that beat them twice last year, as i recall, and I thought they looked much better than last year. They have some decent players who, if allowed to play, might improve the season record. They have to muzzle Mulhern, though.

Hey BW,

I just checked out the Edgewood-UW-Whitewater box score and saw that Lou Pitt reffed the game.  How were the refs?  I know he can have an attitude when working and wonder how he handled the coaches/players.  Notice anything?

Judging by your call name here either you're a married man, or an official.  I can certainly relate that for sure. ;)  Just havin fun.

I was hoping to see the Pioneers play for the first time tonight, but unfortunately my wife's game take a higher obligation.  Hopefully I'll have something to report some time soon.

Happy and safe Thanksgiving to everyone.

The officiating was acceptable.  A total of 37 fouls were called.  Edgewood shot 18 and WW shot 16 free throws.  They pretty much let them play though they did tighten up some in the second half.

We were trying to figure out who one of the officials was.  His name is Tim Duffy and it sounded familiar to some of us but we couldn't place it.  We thought that perhaps he had been a player in the league but weren't sure.  Can anyone shed any light on that?

The WARHAWKS led 35-26 at halftime but separated themselves from Edgewood with a 14-6 run to start the second half behind three 3-pointers from Kelsey Hendrickson and went on to win 76-57.  Twentyone players saw the floor and eleven players scored points.  Dana Thompson paced the scoring with 13 points while Hendrickson finished with 12.  Both Rachel Woolover and Mary Donohoo contributed 9.  Tiffany Morton led all rebounders with 10.  Sarah Moran and Heidi Sonntag each had 5 assists.

Edgewood's Megan Scheele led all scorers with 24 points.  She's an excellent player who could start for any WIAC school.   She basically does everything for Edgewood scoring, rebounding, assisting and bringing the ball up the court against our pressure defense.   A very well rounded player.

Tim Duffy played for Platteville on 1998 era teams. Don't know if it's same guy.
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

There was Tim Duffy from UWP, who was an All-Conference football player, but also played basketball for Coach Ryan and Landrum.  His last season with the Pioneer basketball team was 99-00.  He played in 11 games that year.

You know I knew I recognized that name and thought he'd played basketball somewhere in the league.  Also he was young and the age looks about right.  I wouldn't be surprised at all if he's the same person.

Eau Claire took #17 St Norbert's 66-57. Very strong defense on both parts. Eau Claire's foul shooting in the late game was the difference. Two very mature teams in a physical battle.

The WARHAWKS varsity reserves beat Madison Area Technical College last night.  The score was 80something to 60something.  I can't remember exactly.

Pioneers, aka Road Warriors, lost their home opener last night to Coe College 72-59.  It was their first, and only home game in their first 11 games of the season.  After home for one, the go on a 8 game "road trip".  At least as far as they could go on a DIII schedule, which means that will last until 2009.

That is a rough way to start the WIAC season - with three road games.

But look at the bright side - you're going to have mostly home games after the first of the year, including 3 straight at home in February when weather and travel can be a little "testy"...

I see that Point is in UWEC's tourney this weekend.  It seems that the pairings are not predetermined.  As a result, EC and Point could (most likely going to happen) meet on Saturday.  Point plays Luther and EC plays St. Olaf on Friday.

UWSP is in the process of blasting Luther College at the Eau Claire tournament, but the cool thing is who is on the bench for the Luther.  UWSP all-american Amanda Nechuta is in her first year as an assistant at Luther after playing four years and coaching one at UWSP.
