Tribes of primitve hunters, with rhinestone codpieces rampant, should build pyramids of Chevy engines covered in butterscotch syrup to exalt the diastolic, ineffable, scintillated and cacophonous salamander of truth which slimes and distracts from each and every orifice of your holy refrigerator.

:D  MIAA Pick 'Em Trivia—Week #5 Edition (Ending 07-Feb-2009), or, Analyzing the Analysts   :D

Greetings once again, Pick'Em pickers.  You've seen the leader board posted by Commissioner FDF.  Here once again is "the story behind the story".  Another "upsetting" day picking-wise on Wednesday, but Saturday, in a rather unusual turn of events, all the favorites held serve, and the GPA went above 90% for the first time all season.  Go figure.   :o

POTW--Picker of the Week:  Props to monsoon for being the best of Week 5 at 7-1, with 19 points.  That performance was good enough to bump him from 17th place all the way up to 9th place.  Way to go, monsoon!   8)  Right behind him were calvin66 and Hopester with 18 points-7 wins, and arena with 17-7.  Nice job, guys.

14 pickers had 6 wins.  Among them, Week 4 leader HappyCalvinGuy did well enough to hold onto 1st place.  HCG has held that spot for 4 weeks in a row now.  Ziggy scored enough to move up to 2nd place, and bump BogeyMan down to 3rd.  Statguy drops from 3rd to 4th this week.
12 pickers, including yours truly RR and some part-timers, had 5 or less wins.   :P

Attendance:  Several pickers "missing in action".  Totals of pickers picking this week were 30 Wednesday, 28 Saturday.

The "not-so-coveted" "Aw Crap" Award this week goes to . . . (drum roll please) . . . tyrone, for being so busy with work that he forget to post his picks for Saturday AGAIN, the second time this season.  When he informed me of this at the game, I reminded him that he's only making it easier for me to catch him and FDF (well, at least him   ;)  ) in the career Pick'Em points standings.  Better luck next week, tyrone.  Gohope remembered just in time.  Gohope, we "hope" you're feeling better now.   :)

GPA (Group Pick Average) and GCPA (Group Confidence Point Average):
Wed. Feb 04:  Stunned by both the Albion-over-Hope and Kalamazoo-over-Adrian upsets, 30 contestants got only 60/120 wins correct for another dismal 50.0% GPA, and 177/300 points for a paltry 59.0% GCPA.

Sat. Feb. 7:  In quite the turnabout in picking form, 28 active contestants got 101/112 wins correct for a stellar 90.2% GPA for the day, but resulting in a still-failing 69.4% GPA for the week, and 262/280 points for a GCPA of 93.6% for the day and 75.7% for the week.

GMFPI (Games Most Frequently Picked Incorrectly) and PMFAI (Points Most Frequently Assigned Incorrectly):
Wed. Feb 04:
Albion over Hope, missed by 27 pickers.  68 points mis-assigned.  Congrats to the Britons.
Kalamazoo over Adrian in overtime, missed by 25 pickers.  45 points lost on Adrian.  Props to the Hornets.  My upset of the day and week.

Sat. Feb. 7:
No upsets today.  Trine over Alma, missed by only 7/28 pickers.  10 points assigned incorrectly.  Congrats to the Thunder.

Purely my opinion:
Flashback—one year ago this week, the Wednesday games were postponed to Thursday by the "Big Snow".  Nothing like that this week, though.  Winter was just enough to make for "dirty windshield" driving.

OK, a hoops opinion.  The big three are still hanging around.  Will there be more upsets?  Could be.   ::)

And if there was an award for the most "bricked" dunks in a game, the Dutchmen may have staked their claim with two on Saturday.  Then again, Andy Venema was fouled on his attempt, so his brick shouldn't count against him.  And no, they weren't the best "bricks" in the history of D3, so don't get me started on that.   ;)

And it's rivalry time once again.  Gotta lovit!

Other comments, observations, and conclusions are always welcome.
