Back for 2022!!!

Here are the rules for the MIAA Pick 'Em contest.  Same rules we have been using since 2009!

- Prior to the beginning of the first game on any given day, pick the winner of each game.  You must also indicate confidence points 1 through 4.  If you picked the winning team, you will be awarded the number of confidence points you put on that game (See example below).

- Any late picks will be counted as incorrect, and no points will be awarded.

- I will post a weekly update on the standings.

- The ultimate winner to be decided by point total.  Any ties in point total will be broken by pick percentage.  If a tie still exists, the winner will be chosen randomly out of a jar that's been on Funk and Wagnels porch since noon today - just kidding.

- Any disputes may be taken up with the commissioner (that's me) and I will make a final and fair ruling (I promise).

Pick Em example:

Let's say I used the picks below (the team I picked to win is bolded) and the number is my confidence points:

Team A vs Team B - 2
Team C vs Team D - 4
Team E vs Team F - 3
Team G vs Team H - 1

If the winning teams are B, D, F, and H, I would have gone 3-1 and have accrued 7 points

I'm open to suggestions on postponements, but am leaning towards this:

Each orignally scheduled game day (Wed or Sat), you have confidence points 1-4 to use, and you can only use each of them once.  Your selections must be made prior to the beginning of the game (regardless of when it is played). This is the way we have been playing for years.

New Proposal: If a game is postponed and never made up, then you "forfeit" the confidence points you would have had on that game. For example:

If I have used my 4, 3, and 1 point picks for games that actually happen tomorrow, then by default I have to put 2 points on the Trine @ Hope game, but I can predict who that winner is at any point up until the start of that game.  If that game is cancelled completely/never played, then I'm out 2 points.

Thoughts??

I don't mind that idea. My other thought would be to automatically "bump up" games cancelled. So in your scenario, you go from 4-3-1 to 4-3-2. There then would be no 1 point game in a cancellation. Just a 4-3-2. This way, people don't have to worry about forgetting to check games that are cancelled at the last second.

Interesting approach that would work as well. In your scenario, then the make-up game is automatically 1 point?  And if there are 2 or 3 postponed games on a given day, I fear we end up with mass confjusion and a nightmare trying to keep it all straight.  We could also just go for a straight "pick the winners" league with no points (make things easier to track for sure) through any postponements.  All you have to do is pick the winner of each game and we just go by W/L %.  Starting to think that might be best.

I am good with anything too! Whatever is easiest and makes the most sense to organize and track.

That's basically what I do over in the football pickem when there's a conflict (someone duplicates a value or picks too late for the early games). Adjust the points so the high values are used and the low values aren't used. Keeps the scores as close to the maximum as possible and everyone has an equal maximum.
