:D  MIAA Pick 'Em Trivia—Week #2 Edition (Ending 17-Jan-2009), or, Analyzing the Analysts   :D

Greetings once again, Pick'Em pickers.  You've seen the leader board posted by Commissioner FDF.  Here once more are some of the statistics behind that leader board.

POTW—Picker of the Week:  props to Happy Calvin Guy for leading the pack with a 6-2 record and 17 confidence points for the week, against a field earning a rather dismal 49.2% GPA (Group Pick Average).  With that performance, Happy Calvin Guy vaults past Week 1 leader Hopester, and numerous others, to stand alone atop the leader board for the season.  Way to go, HCG!   8)

Knight Slappy (6-2, 14), BogeyMan (5-3, 14), statguy (5-3, 13), calalum (5-3, 13) also had pretty good weeks.  Nice work, guys.  Overall, the picking this week was indeed pretty roughshod.  Nobody went 8-0, or even 7-1 for that matter.  Six pickers went 5-3, and 25 pickers, including yours truly, had 4 or less wins.  :P

Attendance:  With a couple of absentees, we were down to 30 regular pickers on Wednesday.  Returning picker shawn joined up just in time for Rivalry Day, making the Saturday total 32 pickers, and was the only picker to match Happy Calvin Guy that day with 4-0 and 10 points.  Welcome back, shawn, and nice work.

GPA (Group Pick Average) and GCPA (Group Confidence Point Average):
Wed. Jan 16:  With Alma and Albion pulling big upsets, our GPA really took a hit.  30 contestants got 60/120 picks correct for a dismal 50.0% GPA, and 168/300 confidence points assigned correctly for an equally dismal 56.0% GCPA.

Sat. Jan 19:  Stunned by the Alma-over-Adrian and Calvin-over-Hope shockers (no surprise to the Knight faithful, though), and somewhat split by the Olivet-over-Kalamazoo affair, 32 pickers got only 62/128 correct for a lowly 48.4% GPA for the day, resulting in a 49.2% GPA for the week, and only 156/320 points for a correspondingly poor 48.8% GCPA for the day and 52.3% for the week.

GMFPI (Games Most Frequently Picked Incorrectly) and PMFAI (Points Most Frequently Assigned Incorrectly):
Wed. Jan 16:
Alma over Trine, missed by 28 Scot scoffers.  78 points squandered on the Thunder.  Congrats to the Scots!
Albion over Olivet, missed by 26 pickers.  46 points lost on the Comets.  Bravo to the Britons!
60 total incorrect picks, and 132 total confidence points assigned incorrectly, again excluding o-fers.

Sat. Jan. 19:
Alma over Adrian, the shocker missed by 27/32 Scot unbelievers, oh ye of little faith (including yours truly  ;)  ), earning honors as my upset of the week on this page.  Congrats to the Scots.  84 points lost on Adrian.
Calvin over Hope, another upset missed by 22/32 pickers.  Congrats to the Knights, the better team this day.  51 points lost on Hope.
66 total incorrect picks, and 164 total confidence points assigned incorrectly.

Purely my opinion:
The Alma Scots are my surprise (dark horse?  with apologies to Dark Knight  ;)  ) team to win two games this second week of conference play, and stand alongside Adrian, Olivet, and Albion in third place, and earn honors as my Team of the Week.  Salute! to the Scots.

Other comments, observations, and conclusions are always welcome.
