   MIAA Pick 'Em Trivia—Week #6 Edition (Ending 14-Feb-2009), or, Analyzing the Analysts   

Greetings once again, Pick'Em pickers.  You've seen the leader board posted by Commissioner FDF.  Here once again is "the rest of the story".  On Wednesday, we had one legit upset, and a picking split decision on the Rivalry Game, but I wouldn't really call it an upset.  On Saturday, things went pretty much according to form, with another one of our few really good GPA's for the season.

POTW--Picker of the Week:  Props to GoVols for being the top picker of Week 6 at 8-0 with 20 points.  After missing a couple weeks, he comes back in perfect form.  Way to go, GoVols!   8)  13wapiti and BogeyMan were oh so close, both just one point back at 19 points-7 wins.  Nice job, guys.  8 more pickers scored 7 wins.  10 pickers, including yours truly RR, had 6 wins.  7 pickers, including part-timers, had 5 or less wins.  The competition was indeed tough.   

Week #5 leader Happy Calvin Guy    picked well enough to remain in the lead.  He has now held the lead for five weeks running.  Can he hang on for one more week?     BogeyMan moves ahead of ziggy to take over 2nd place, bumping ziggy down to 3rd place.  The drama continues to build, with just one week left in the race.

Attendance:  Several pickers "missing in action" this week.  Total pickers picking this week was 28 on Wednesday and 27 on Saturday.

GPA (Group Pick Average) and GCPA (Group Confidence Point Average):
Wed. Feb. 11:  With most of us caught off guard by the Kalamazoo-over-Olivet outcome, and nearly evenly split on the Rivalry Game, 28 contestants got 72/112 wins correct for a mediocre 64.3% GPA, and 177/280 points assigned correctly for a 63.2% GCPA.

Sat. Feb. 14:  With all the favorites holding serve, 27 active contestants got 98/108 wins correct for a sparkling 90.7% GPA for the day, resulting in a 77.3% GPA for the week, and 257/270 points assigned correctly for a 95.2% GCPA for the day, and a 78.9% GCPA for the week.

GMFPI (Games Most Frequently Picked Incorrectly) and PMFAI (Points Most Frequently Assigned Incorrectly):
Wed. Feb. 11:
Kalamazoo over Olivet, missed by 25 of us.  69 points assigned incorrectly to Olivet.  Congrats to the Hornets.  Upset of the day and week on this page.
Calvin over Hope, missed by 13 pickers.  31 points assigned incorrectly to Hope.  Not really an upset, though.  They are admittedly the better team this season.  Congrats to the Knights.

Sat. Feb. 14:
No surprises today.  Except for Mrs. RR attending an MIAA game with me for the first time in years.  And on Valentines' Day, yet.   


Purely my opinion:
Congrats to the Calvin Knights, for sweeping the Rivalry season series, and clinching at least a share of the MIAA title.  And congrats to the Dutchmen for battling hard.  They came oh so close, twice.

This season is going by way too fast.  Let's enjoy what little there is left of it.
