I was hoping the UD mens game would end before the womens game...they ended right about the same time.  Proud that the Lady Spartans collected their 20th win tonight.  Should be a great game Sunday.

Thanks for the update Bird Dog.

Congrats to Simpson.  Rooting for you to do well in the tourney.

Ditto congrats to Simpson on winning the League tournament and getting into the NCAA for the ninth straight year.  The games are to be played at Cowles Fieldhouse in Indianola.  Simpson plays Westminster Mo. and Wisconsin Stevens Point plays Concordia-M'head.

The visiting teams and fans are in for a treat.  The shopping at the downtown stores especially the Jarsma bakery (Dutch Letters and Almond Blonkets) and Ulrich's meat market (sandwiches, meat and cheese samples) is a real treat and the constant ninety degree plus temperature in Cowles Fieldhouse will make you think you are on spring break in the Caribbean.  Good luck to Simpson and for the visitors make sure you hydrate.

Simpson wins 88 to 84 over Wisconsin Stevens Point.

Cornell loses to St. Thomas 53 to 52.

Simpson representing the IIAC well.  Let's keep it rolling

Bird Dog

Sweet Sixteen Simpson plays #22 University of Wisconsin Whitewater on Whitewater's home floor.
Other side of the bracket includes #2 Hope.  Hope's opponent is St. Thomas which knocked off #4 Calvin and #12 Cornell. I think St. Thomas finished third last year.  They've been there before and are proving to be a tough opponent. (St. Thomas is one of the highest rated others receiving votes.)

This time of year it doesn't matter where your opponent is ranked just beat em.

We've released our list of All-Americans. Congratulations to Kate Nielsen and Mollie Whiting, who is our first women's selection from Dubuque.

I hear Central College lost another coach (WBB), last minute, right before school starts...what is going on over there? Lots of rumors flying, leadership lacking, President/AD not living up to hype. Not good from what's being said...Any insight?

Coach Jacobsma accepted a position as Athletic Director at Alexander Dawson School.  Alexander Dawson School k-12, tuition $20,650 to $21,250.  $1.25 million in tuition assistance.  Twelve miles east of Boulder.

I stated this before (when Luther hired a coach)  but I believe that a high school basketball coach with a MA and several years experience makes more than a IIAC coach with admissions or intramural duties.  In my community a high school coach with those credentials would make
70 to 80 K.  I believe that this is why you rarely see a high school basketball coach apply or accept jobs with small colleges.  You do see retired coaches on occasion (Jerry Nikkel? hope I got the name right) at Central for several years.

I don't think IIAC women's basketball coaches make anywhere near that.  I kind of doubt that you will see many coaches in the future with the tenure of Brian Niemuth (26yr.), Janet Berry (22yrs), or Jane Hildebrand (29yrs).  (Duh you really don't see many people in any profession staying that long in one place anymore).

Wartburg        Amsbery          9th year

Coe                Peterson          8th year

U.D.                Noll                  7th year

Loras             Hiezzen            7th year

Luther            Bailey               3rd year

P.S. Congratulations to coach Niemuth being promoted from interim Athletic Director to Official Athletic Director.  Sorry rest of the league he will continue as Women's Basketball coach.

Now that he is Athletic Director he will probably raise the temperature in Cowles Field House from its unbearable 87 degrees to 95+ degrees.

Klompen

Big congratulations to the Dutch on a mighty amazing come from behind win against Luther tonight!  Just an outstanding job of showing why you should never give up.  Down by 7 with less than 2 minutes to go, the Dutch take the lead for the first time in the half with 3 seconds left on a beautiful 3 pointer.  I would say former assistant, current interim head coach, Chelsea Peterson is making a great case fot getting the position permanently.  Also great to see local Pella players making key contributions down the stretch.  Nice to see the Pella ladies shine!

They traded places with Central? :)

If we have much more weather like this week, I will go back to hibernating.  Brrrrrr
I will be there Saturday, how about you?

I am looking forward to seeing Klompens game review.  Our computer took a dump today.  I can log on, but video doesn't work and some pics won't load.  I know UD won by 1 point, sounds like it was a good game.
