Congratulations to Buena Vista!  They are the first team to post their new roster.  They did this twice.  The first time I read it Jen Schuman was listed a Senior.  Nearly went apoplectic. They have corrected it and she did graduate last year.  I thought she was the best player in the league not to make an all conference team.  Of course I thought she should have been on a team or at least Honorable mention.  She killed the team I follow every time we played them.

Season starts mid November.  Official practices start soon.  My preseason predictions that were completely wrong last year but  will be forth coming.

We need some chatter on this site including, predictions,  bragging about your team, who are the hot recruits, and news about returnees.

Good luck to all teams1

Glad to see some chatter on this page.  Thanks for the update that Buena Vista's roster is up.  I did notice on Sunday that Luther's roster is up to.  Looks like they brought in a good sized class.  Any other thoughts or preseason predictions?  I would think that Simpson would be the team to beat again.

Thanks for the heads up on the Norse Roster.  Loras now has their's up,  sixteen or seventeen Freshmen listed.

Thanks for the info on the Loras roster.  Wow!!!  That is a large number of new kids.

Another roster has been posted.  Cornell has posted a roster with 16 players.  Twelve of them are Freshman.  The one I recognized is Camille Marie-Lidd.  Saw her play three times last year for Cedar Rapids Washington.  At 6'2" she should help the inside game.  Had another 6'2" girl from California.  Could be one of the tallest teams in conference.

Student assistant Coach Jesse Searls should be an even more valuable asset this year with his experience coaching post players.

Any insight into how practices have gone so far?  Any other rosters or surprising freshman out there?  Bird Dog--who is your team that you root for?  I am neutral  :)

My daughter plays for one of the conference teams.  I try to keep my comments as innocuous as possible.   I don't  want one of my comments  used as locker room bulletin board material.  Example: when I made my predictions last year Kohawk Krazy predicted that It would end up posted in their locker room.

I think everyone on the team knows my handle (Bird Dog) including the coaches I would  never make anonymous pot shots at them or the players.  I have also dropped hints that anyone familar with the team would know which team  I am talking about.

Love your comments and I see you were asking for suggestions on good games in the mmac.  I would like to play Carleton this year or next as I know someone on that team.

All schools except Central, Wartburg, and U. of Dubuque have posted 2009-10 rosters.  It would be interesting to see what they have coming in.

Luther's site has a personal interview with Coach Jane Hildebrand.  In the interview she accesses her team and predicts Simpson and Loras to be the top teams.

The coaches preseason pick are pobably due into the conference shortly.  After that my totally erronious (see I can't even spell erroneous right) predictions will follow.

Would like to hear from you about your team and it's chances.  Exhibition games etc.

U of Dubuque plays an exhibition game with Iowa State University, Sunday Nov.  1  at 2:00 p.m.  I believe it will have live stats and a webcast of the game.  Good Luck U.D.  I think State has only two starters returning but have add a 6'7" girl.

Sometimes I only catch half of a radio news item.  I thought I heard the other day that one of State's starters was out for 3 to 4 weeks.  Didn't catch which one.  I  hope ISU doesn't use it as an excuse for losing to U.D.

University of Dubuque lost to Iowa State 99 to 57 in an exhibition game.   Cudos to U.D.  57 pts. is very good against a DI team.  DI teams have players stay in town and practice all summer.  Jennifer Nichols got 21 pts. showing that the 15 pts per game she scored last year could go even higher.   Stats for the game are listed on ISU live stats.

Sorry, I hadn't noticed the chatter had started back up for this year.  I will try to hang out more.

Here is the Dubuque Telegraph-Herald article on the UD/ISU exhibition.

And I believe the UD roster is now up.

The IIAC preseason rankings and team capsules are posted on the IIAC site.  The team ratings were:

Rank School (1st place votes) Points 2008-09 Record
1 Simpson (6) 68 (24-4, 14-2 IIAC)
2 Loras (1) 58 (16-11, 10-6 IIAC)
3 Buena Vista (1) 55 (18-9, 10-6 IIAC)
Wartburg (1) 55 (16-11, 10-6 IIAC)
5 Luther 45 (10-15, 9-7 IIAC)
Coe 45 (14-12, 8-8 IIAC)
7 Dubuque 29 (9-16, 5-11 IIAC)
8 Central 21 (8-17, 4-12 IIAC)
9 Cornell 19 (7-17, 2-14 IIAC)

Looks like a dog fight for second place again this year.  Doolittledog I think Dubuque should be ranked higher.

What do the rest of you think?

doolittledog

Hey Bird Dog...two of us on at the same time!!!

Here is the link to the IIAC preview...

I think Dubuque has the "potential" to finish higher.  They have brought in a couple good recruiting classes in a row.  The problem is, I think there is a great deal of parity in the league right now.  There is a log jam of teams that could finish about anywhere in the standings.  Simpson should be the league power.  After that...who knows.  Should be fun to find out how things shake out though.

Good luck to the Coe women when they aren't playing UD ;)

Doolittledog  I noticed you have Millie the Spoofhound.  Did you go to Maryville High School?  My wife is from that area but she isn't a Spoofhound.  The following is from Wikapedia

The Spoofhound was a Plaster of Paris carnival toy from the 1920s. Maryville is now the only school in the country to use the Spoofhound mascot as its mascot. Although originally two words, Maryville uses a one word Spoofhound for its mascot.

Legend has it that the high school received this nickname in the 1920s when the football coach L.E. Ziegler was so angry with the way his squad had looked in practice that as an insult he said they looked like a bunch of "Spoofhounds". The players mockingly referred to one another by this insult and the name stuck. In the 1940s, Ziegler became the superintendent of schools for Columbia, Missouri where the mascot is also named for an early 20th century doll—the Kewpies.[3] Maryville's mascot has evolved over the years from a lovable buffoon "Spoofy" to a snarling "Hound." As of 2009, no other academic institution or sports club had adopted the nickname.

The Maryville Spoofhounds got brought up on the football board a few months ago.  Someone posted that the definition of a spoofhound was either a Plaster of Paris carnival doll or a lazy dog.  As our dog is a very lazy dog, I took a picture of her and put it up as my avatar.

I am looking forward to 1 more week of football and then settling in for the winter and following IIAC basketball and wrestling.  The Spartans are optimistic for good seasons from both basketball teams and wrestling.  We've made the trip to Waverly the last 2 years when Dubuque was visiting.  We might try to add Coe to our travels this winter.
