2 years ago, that Coe team was dominated by seniors and had really good toughness. I see some of the same qualities in this Coe team. I know I might hear crickets for saying this, but this is a game where Coe could really use a Brittany Norris.

What are everyone's thoughts on the big game tomorrow?

I don't know that the Coe women's basketball program has ever played in a bigger game than tomorrows...

Two years ago Coe played for the tournament championship and lost to Simpson 94 to 80 in a game closer than the score indicates.

That Simpson team was unreal that year.  There was no way Coe was going to win that game as a #4 seed.  The upset of Luther in the Semifinals was the highlight.  Simpson was up 23 points on Coe with 2:04 to play in that championship game, so it really wasn't that close.

The difference this year is that Coe is playing for a conference title.  If they win out, they win the title.  Something that has NEVER been done before in women's hoops at Coe.  On top of that, I don't think they have ever beaten a ranked team before either, so a lot of "first" could come from tomorrow's game.

I felt that 2 years ago, Coe should have gotten an at large bid. I know that can sometimes be a stretch but this year it might not be out of the question for the IIAC. IIAC after all is the 3rd strongest conference out of 49 leagues in the country!

I haven't been able to access the play by play on that game but I think at the 3/4 mark it was about seven pts. and Coe was the number three seed not four.

Kohawk Krazy hadn't started this yet and I will be gone later.  So I'm getting in my picks now...

Buena Vista @ Cornell  Margo scores more than 3 points in this one ;)

Dubuque @ Loras   Homer pick...but I do believe the Lady Spartans are the better team

Simpson @ Coe  Home cooking wins out, plus Simpson still trying to figure out their BV loss

Wartburg @ Luther   Wartburg wins and the first fight of the season breaks out between teams

As an Iowa boy who has lived in the Twin Cities for a little over 10 years now I would have to say that the MIAC is WAY better than the IIAC.  I got to watch Simpson play last year in the NCAA Tournament up at CSB (St. Ben's) and was not all that impressed with them.  They looked very average against a very good UW-Whitewater team (which CSB then subsequently beat the following night).

Would be neat, though, to see Coe do the seemingly unthinkable and knock off Simpson and steal the IIAC title.

Kohawk Krazy

I feel four sweeps coming today...

Buena Vista at Cornell - Beavers are hot right now...this Cornell team can't stop them....

Dubuque at Loras - Might be a good game, but I think the Duhawks take it...

Simpson at Coe - This is going to be a battle...Can't wait to head to Eby to check it out!!!

Wartburg at Luther - Knights win this one easy.

doolittledog

Dubuque up 34-28 at the half over Loras.

doolittledog

Dubuque wins @ Loras 68-59

Klompen

Central puts teamwork first and wins against the bye.  It was closer than it should have been though.   :'(

Kohawk Krazy

How about them Kohawks today!!!

Win the last two games and the road to March goes through Eby Fieldhouse!

The top of the MIAC might be as good or better than the top of the IIAC but the bottom of the MIAC is weaker than the bottom of the IIAC and the middle of both leagues is quite similar.

Plus, if you will refer to my post that included the massey ratings, you will see that the IIAC was ranked as the 3rd best league and the MIAC was 6th or 7th I believe.

#643
Junkie and LA Rams the MIAC plays twenty two games in league and only three out.  The IIAC plays sixteen games in league and nine out.

The IIAC has played #3 Illinois Wesleyan, #11 Cathage, and # 19 DePauw.
In the Central Region the league has played U of Chicago (one pt. out of top 25)  and University of Wisconsin Whitewater (four times).

I have not checked the MIAC but doubt they have played that many quality teams.  That would hurt their RPI.

I forgot one west region rated team the IIAC has played Gustavus Adolphus.
