Congratulations to Coe and Dubuque on their team accomplishments.  Always glad to see Simpson women get beat.   ;D  As to Central women, maybe they need to compete in the bottom half of the IIAC and MIAC until they can get back to the top.  They have fallen a long ways from winning the DIII title in 1993.  Maybe Beth Warner could come back and coach.  She was a great assistant coach, for a WB grad.   ;)

Central puts teamwork first and wins against the bye.  It was closer than it should have been though.   :'(

Reminds me of an exhibition football game in 1973.  Frank Lautabur's Iowa Hawkeyes (0-11) against George Halas worst in the NFL Bears.  Bears won with time running down after Lautabur got mad at the refs and pulled his team off the field.  The Bears scored a field goal three plays later on a 4th and goal from the two yard line.  Well it could have happened.

Basketball at Central this year is really the two-headed coin.  Men's fans are loving this year and women's fans can't wait for it to just be over.  I just hope that both coaches are recruiting like mad, the women need some good players to help support the good ones that we do have and the men are graduating all 5 starters.  At least it is easier to recruit to what has become a winning program for the men.  If the women's coach stays, he will have his work cut out for him.

Coe's men's and women's teams are almost mirror images to Central in the standings.

We feel your pain.  We also know that the Coe's men and Central's women will rise again!

Speaking of Jarsma Bakery and Dutch Letters if you are coming to Coe on Wed. I would reimburse you for one Dutch Letter (no mileage).

I would love to help you out, but I am going to have to settle for watching on the internet.  But I will EAT a Dutch letter while watching, if that helps!   :D :D :D

I believe that the Central women and Coe men will rise again, but I'm afraid the Coe men might do it faster.  Central's women have been down for awhile and that is hard to turn around.

Signed, the UD athletic department.  ;)

But it can be turned around.  UD football has turned a corner.  UD men and women soccer finished 2nd in the IIAC last fall with the women winning the conference tourney.  UD wrestling is nationally ranked and had a national champ last year.  Mens indoor track is currently nationally ranked.  Sports programs can and do get turned around.  It helps if you get good coaching AND an administration that supports you...(or offers special athletic aid) ;D ;D ;D

And the Central wrestlers climbed to 7th after being last for a long time after having had a very strong program.  Yes, there is hope, but it takes a lot of hard work and dedication.

I do believe that things are changing, I see Dubuque climbing in football, Simpson moving to something other than a sure thing in Women's basketball, BV not being a sure thing in men's BB, Central moving up in wrestling, but sadly down in volleyball.  All things change in time.  Even Central had one season with 5 losses in football a few years ago.  Don't see that happening again soon though.  Phew!   ;)

My picks for tonight...

Central @ Coe   Kohawks win...Klompen is consoled by eating a Dutch Letter...bird dog, while happy with a win...is hungry ;D

Cornell @ Luther battle between 2 teams with no post season dreams goes to the home team

Dubuque @ Buena Vista   both teams sit at 9-5 in league play and 15-8 overall...tie breaker goes to the home team :'(

Loras @ Wartburg  Wartburg women wrap up league play with a win...hope for some help in getting a tie for the conference title

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D  You've heard of the freshman 15?  This is the Dutch 30!   ;D ;D ;D  Better hurry and get to the bakery...

Klompen

Ouch.  It's going to take more than the one Dutch letter to get over this one.  I know we were playing the best in the league, but did we have to totally fall apart?  Spend lots of time in the gym this off season ladies, you can do better than this.

Jerry, time to recruit or retire. :-*

Kohawk Krazy

I was a little disappointed in the Central player's sportsmanship last night.  Two Kohawks were sent to the hospital during the game, one due to be kicked in the face.  When Brillhart fouled out because of her technical foul, she looked at the ref, after knocking Waskow to the ground and said "Now that's what a foul is."  I couldn't believe I was watching an Iowa Conference women's game.

Class move by Coach Peterson to play her starters so little.  I guess it wasn't her fault her bench went off for 50 points.

Double Ouch, it sounds like Central got what they deserved if they are going to be that way.  I didn't watch the game, I have a low pain tolerance, and that was before I knew about our poor sportsmanship.  I may not be a fan of the coach, but I don't believe he would condone such behavior.  Sorry to hear that happened, even more sorry that it was a Pella native behaving that way.  I know she isn't used to having seasons like this one, but nothing excuses poor sportsmanship.  Sounds like a good thing they only have one game left, they clearly need a breather.  Hope the two players are going to be okay.

I was shocked it was coming from a Central team.  I've always thought, next to Coe anyway  ;) , that Central had one of the best athletic programs as far as respect and sportsmanship goes.  In nearly every sport, they are very courteous and nice.  I'm hoping last night was just a frustration thing.

I have to believe it was a frustration thing, and not that it excuses anything, but if it was from Brillhart, she has not had an easy life.  Her dad bravely battled cancer for several years before passing away, I think while she was a senior in high school.  I'm sure things have not gotten any easier since.  In HS she was on a team that did well at state, so I'm sure she was frustrated.  But again, it doesn't excuse, but might help explain...

I saw the first girl get hurt.  There was nothing dirty or intentional on that play.  The first girls mother came back to the gym and I went down and inquired about her daughter.  The second injury occurred while I was talking to the mother.  I didn't see the second injury.

The fans I sit around said the second injury was also unintentional.  I heard two version of what happened.  It would like to see the film (this sounds kind of ghoulish but not intended that way).

Talking to a Dutch fan in the hall after the game he said that after they had done so well against Simpson then they had four key girls suffer injuries.

I was praising  Andrea Clark's play after the first Coe game.  I believe she is hampered by injuries.  The first game when she played extemely well.

There is a lot of frustration on that team.  I think that is understandable they are competitors and the breaks are just not falling their way.

Klompen on the bright side there is only one way to go and thats up.  I'm sure they will improve and wish them well.
