Simpson  77   Wartburg  70
Coe  62   Luther  76
Dubuque  82   Buena Vista  73    (OT)
Central  65   Loras  72

Dubuque about gave me a heart attack letting the game go into OT to begin with.  But the Spartans were then able to pull away in OT.  I think we have another top 3 team in the conference with the Spartans.  We'll see if they can continue the uphill climb all the way to the top.  I do like their style of play and with a deep bench it could get interesting.  Coe/Luther/Simpson will be tough as usual.
Coach Finstock - "There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that and everything else is cream cheese."

Undefeated in conference Luther falls to Simpson.

Coe beats Wartburg in a close game.  Wartburg was missing several players.  Probably flu bug.

BV beats Central

Congrats to the University of Dubuque and their biggest fan doolittledog on the sweep of Loras last night.  If memory serves me right Loras and U.D.  may be archrivals.

Congrats to the University of Dubuque and their biggest fan doolittledog on the sweep of Loras last night.  If memory serves me right Loras and U.D.  may be archrivals.

Much like Ohio St refers to Michigan as "that school up north"  Spartan fans refer to Loras as "that school across town"  ;D

I kept tabs on the women's conference games while watching my daughters swim practice.  Then was able to catch the 2nd half and the UD/Loras men's game on the computer.

Not sure how this year will play out.  There are a whole mess of talented teams out there could rise up and beat anyone on any given night.  Win at home, try to steal as many wins on the road as you can and see where things stand at the end of the year.

Sounds like a can't miss game.  I consider Eby Fieldhouse to be one of the best basketball venues in the league.  Comfortable seats but needs better concession stand.  There is some talk of building a recreation building I hope they don't scrap Eby.

Wartburg fans and Coe fans that can remember when Asst. Coach Oakland coached at Coe, should check out Saturdays C.R. Gazette. On the puzzle page they have a picture of Oakland's daughter sitting on the bench with the Wartburg Girls.  Cute picture. Coach Oakland's last year at Coe was 2010-11.

Even if your team loses we'd like to know your thoughts.   The more posts the merrier.  Keep them coming.  Especially if you have some gossip.  Usually we don't repeat gossip in this site, so read carefully the first time its posted.

I was going to tell you wave at the camera, Bird Dog...but they cut off the video feed before the handshakes were completed.

UD getting a road win against a conference power is big.  Luther and Simpson had big wins over BVU and Central.  Loras/Wartburg is in a nail biter.

My daughter said Coach Henderson said today that if Coe won they would get the second seed over the loser of the Dubuque vs. Luther game.  My usually flawed and erroneous calculations have Luther in the number two.  Coe number 3, Loras 4, Wartburg 5, and Simpson six.  Tie breakers in the IIAC go head to head, if that doesn't break the tie then they go down the standings and the first one to beat a team ahead of them wins the seed.  Coe and Luther split head to head,  both split with leader Dubuque,  and both split with Loras.

Now it goes to who gets the seed between Simpson and Wartburg.  They split head to head.  Wartburg has a win over Dubuque giving it the number 5 seed.  Coe split with Wartburg and Luther beat them twice taking the number two seed.

After all these calculations the official schedule is out on the IIAC web site.

On Tuesday

Coe (3) vs. Simpson (6) @ Coe

Loras (4) vs. Wartburg (5)@ Loras

The league tournament winner gets the automatic qualifier, but I don't think anyone else in the IIAC has enough clout to get their ticket punched to the dance.  Hope they prove me wrong.
