Thank you for your insight Rico.  We'll soon see how he fares in the IIAC.

Wartburg should be better because they will have some HOME games this year.javascript:replaceText(' :D', document.forms.postmodify.message);
Aaron Kampman on Coach Ed Thomas
I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

Simpson is picked to win the conference!  Any comments, surprises??

Thought I'd pass along a note of congratulations to the Wartburg women. That squad looked good in both of their games at WLC's Tip-Off Tournament:

Thought St. Benedict just on height advantage would have beaten the Knights, but the Knights were hitting their 3's that game. Then yesterday against WLC after one of your players hit a 3 at the halftime buzzer to put your squad up by 12, I overheard a Warrior fan a few rows behind me ask "Where did they get her?" :) ;)

Any idea on what teams looked like from opening weekend?  Simpson got off to another strong strong!!

The Kohawks are 3-0! We haven't been able to say that since 2000. It's too soon to pass judgment, but Coach Peterson has the program headed in the right direction. Tonight's win over UW-Platteville was possibly the best game I've seen the women play in my six years at Coe.
4 IIAC football championships
8 NCAA football playoff appearances
13 straight wins over Cornell in the oldest football rivalry west of the Mississippi

That line makes me think of John Belushi and his line from Animal House..."Seven years of college down the drain"

Central women came into the season with high hopes from a good recruiting year, but how quickly high hopes can be dashed.  Last night was a long and difficult one for the Dutch.  Our leading scorer is out for the year with an injury, De Jong is still studying overseas until the end of the semester and we were noticeably lacking an experienced college level shooter.  The shooting stats told the story as the Dutch hit 17.5%.  Good news, freshman Andrea Clark had 10 points.  Bad news, a freshman should not be the leading scorer so early on.  More bad news, 10 points was enough to be a leading scorer.  Lots of shots seemed to be thrown in desperation without really taking aim at the hoop.  Is it good news to say they can only get better?

I don't believe last night was indicitive of how they will do every game and losing the leading scorer after the first game of the year has to make the Dutch rethink strategies.  But it did dash some hopes for what we hoped would be a turn around year.

Happy Thanksgiving to one and all.
