my vote would go to Simpson.  Sweet Sixteen with experience returning.  Any news on incoming kids?

I went to the Iowa Games Coe had two teams and Central one.  Central looked pretty much like last years cast but Coe had a bunch of unrecognizable faces.  I think they graduated four senior starters.  Unfortunately no programs no names have you heard of any recruits.

Gottaluvhoops (sp) I was trolling around the Central Region and found a list of players going to the Wisconsin schools and 5 that were going to the University of Dubuque.

Jenna Darwin      Menomnie

Joelle Domingos     Hortonville

Hanna Haugestuen  Barron

Kerry Mc Dermott   Rio

Heather Taylor River Ridge

Don't know how accurate this is but it was on the internet so it must be true?

The UD womens coach is from Wisconsin.  Supposedly with deep recruiting roots.  So that list sounds plausible.

Coach Noll came from the WIAC at UW-Stout, where they won 3 consecutive WIAC titles.  He has strong ties around Wisconsin.

There are quite a few Northwestern Wisconsin players at UD this year, many coming from strong/successful high school programs and 2 transfers, both were starters at their previous schools:

New:
Jenna Darwin - Menomonie
Katie Cheline - Mondovi transfer from D2 MN Crookston
Crystal Parr - Bloomer, transfer from D3 UW-River Falls
Hannah Haugestuen - Barron
Amy Reyzer - Altoona

Returning:
Tena Stark - Menomonie

The UD coach also was a part of a strong AAU program up in Wisconsin too..not sure if he still is anymore.
Stats on Cheline..wonder how you get a D2 transfer who was starting and probably on a full ride, to go to Dubuque? Although I went to JUCO very close to Crookston, NOTHING to do up there but snowmobile!

Does anyone know if U of Dubuque has completed its varsity gym?

Does anyone know if U of Dubuque has completed its varsity gym?

They were still working on it when I was there September 6th.

Football broadcast from this weekend say it is complete and the first volleyball games were played in there this past week.

When I was at a UD for a basketball game in Feb.  I thought that space had the potential to be the best  varsity venues in the conference.  I was briefly looking around UD's Web site for pictures, didn't see any.

Is it too early to post predictions?

UD needs to do a better job of putting up pictures of their building projects.  The stadium webcam is great, and I look at it every day.  But it would be nice to see some pics of the work on the basketball arena as well.

Never too early to post predictions.  We need the chatter on here!!!

Pedictions for 2008-09 Season

First:  Buena Vista with all starters back and DIII Magazines preseason player of the year Margo Muhlbauer.

Second: Simpson lost Whiton, Kratch, and Beals but the tradition lives on with Montague, Franker, Larson, and Fields.  Katie Ingram could become one of the best guards in the league.

Third:  Luther lost Tiekpe, Dunnwald and Ernst.  Hildebrand is a veteran coach.  Luther seems to attract winners.  Delsang, Stenhaug, and Furlong provide good nucleus.

Fourth:  Loras Bava, Morrisesy, and improving Mindy Clark give the team an inside outside game.  I'll miss Pucci's great play and all league name and nickname.

Fifth:  Dubuque, Nichols, Nelson and Stark are back.  Two transfers were rumored only one I could see on the roster Parr.  The DII girl doesn't appear to be there.

Sixth:  Central Clark, Carlson, Gerst, and the return of De Jong could mean a move up from last year.

Seventh:  Wartburg  no roster published yet but Harrington and Van Sloten two players to build on.  I'll miss Campbell and that scrappy little Frantz.

Eighth:  Coe graduated four senior starters including three time all conference 1st teamer Karkosh.  Anciaux and Norris top returnees.  Two transfers could help.  Rumor about a hot shot player named Remi that isn't listed on the roster yet.

Ninth:  Cornell Tiffany Cowan is fun to watch and hopefully won't miss any of her senior season.  Alicia West is a good player but appears to be the only sophomore returning.

This is tough using just rosters and only seeing each team play twice last season.  Please sound off on these picks or if you don't want to do the whole league tell me why your team should move up.

Sorry I'm sure some of the names are misspelled.

Remember if you saw it on the internet it must be true!

Aaron Kampman on Coach Ed Thomas
I believe his greatest legacy comes not in how many football games he won or lost but in the fact that he was a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

W-CF Courier article Wartburg Basketball - both men + women
http://wcfcourier.com/articles/2008/10/24/sports/local/10710820.txt

A young team last season, Wartburg should benefit from a 2007-2008 trial by fire, said Amsberry.

"I think we really got good experience for our young kids," the Knights' coach said. "It's gonna pay dividends. We had to bring them along probably earlier than most programs. But those kids are sophomores now and we really expect them to play like upperclassmen with the experience we gained last year."

Simpson is ranked in the pre-season top 25.  Should be interesting because they lost their top two players.
