Wow, I know it was 4th and 16, but down 17 in the 4th quarter with only one timeout? Strange punt call. Bombers had completed two passes on that drive for 13 and 15 (granted one was called back). What was there to lose by going for it?

Up till this drive (this half) IC had done a good job against SJF on defense.  I might have gone for it too though.

Yeah, but you're going to need to score three times, and with the the new clock rules, it's harder to come back. It wouldn't have mattered, I would have just liked to see Ithaca keep with it. If you're going to be going for it on 4th downs, keep that do-or-die mentality

Bailey with another TD today giving him 4 TDs and 360 yards passing...

34-10...

Well it's final...

I think SJF's line size was the big factor in this game.  IC runs out of room when they get inside the 20 yard line and you need to be able to pound for a few yards when you are down there.  They couldn't do it and it cost them.

Then SJF's oline made some big pushes when they needed it.

I thought both teams skill positions played real well and made some big plays all over the field.  SJF just had 2 or 3 too many big plays.

I'm not sure if SJF has a national championship running game or running backs, but if they keep teams guessing with a nice balance, they can make a run.  They had a lot of open receivers today though.  They are going to need to make those passes with some tighter covereges down the stretch.

I thought IC's smaller front 7 did well vs the run, the moved well and caused some confusion in the linemans assignments...

They played the zone read from the shot gun very well all game...

Wasn't really that impressed with the secondary as there were a ton of Fisher WR's open all game...

There were some very uncharacteristic drops by them but they made plays when catching the ball...

I was really surprised to see IC go 5 wide empty backfield on 4th and 1, either they liked a match up or wanted no part in running the ball...

Fisher's D did a great job of tightening down when in the redzone, the run D was great inside there...

They got some good pressure when they needed to...

How the Bombers respond will be very interesting. Two weeks off before Springfield should give them the time to prepare, but it's got to be disappointing after the huge Union win to be 4-2...

I think they're going to be ok against SU because of the LB play, but Utica in three weeks is going to be very interesting

Old IC Voice

Not a surprising outcome. IC wasn't able to control the clock due to their lack of a run game, and with Bailey the QB he is, the secondary problems were exploited pretty well. Conti is solid, but White has been underwhelming since missing Cortaca '09. I always thought he was a safety playing corner; solid hitter with OK hands, but his cover skills aren't anything to write home about and he's a threat for a dumb penalty at any moment.

I agree with Bombers in that IC should be OK against Springfield. The Pride don't play well at Butterfield, and the Bombers and their 3-4 ought to at least limit what Carter and Co. can do out of the option. The Utica game could end up being the equivalent of a scoreboard's pre-game light test with how fast points will be scored. Whoever has the ball last probably wins.

IC held the advantage in time of possession (33:14-26:38) for what it's worth...

I think IC will be fine against SC. since they are at home, and have a week off. But I think UC will give them trouble with that high powered offense. Shoule be a fun one.

Pep, Pep Sr and Kaz are watching the Alfred-RPI game in Herrick Library

Smoke Lopez fumbles at the Alfred 40 on the opening drive.

Alfred D holds the Engineers after a big run got them inside the red zone.  3-0, RPI with 11 minutes left in the first.

RPI taking it to the Saxons.  10-0, Engineers with 8 minutes left in the first.

Another 3 and out for the Saxons who are obviously struggling from the RPI announcer calling Secky "Seeky".  3 possessions, a turnover and two muffed punts for Alfred.

RPI converts again.  17-0, Engineers with 4 minutes left in the first.

Snap goes over Secky's head.  RPI recovers at their own 20.

Alfred brought the pressure, Hermann got levelled, but still completed the TD pass.  24-0, RPI with 27 seconds left in the first.  Thankfully this quarter is about to end...

Springfield up 7-0 in the second.

Utica just had a 1st and goal at the 3...couldn't punch it in, and evem fumbled and got the ball back on third down...and then missed a 23 yard FG attempt when it hit the upright.
