Ten players to watch in my opinion (not in any order)
1) Anthony Williams - Plattsburgh - Reigning Player of the Year
2) Sherod Harris - Brockport - 1st Team All League
3) Brandon Williams - Brockport - 1st Team All League
4) Travis Gorham - Plattsburgh - 2nd Team All League
5) Antawn Miller - Plattsburgh - Explosive offensively and defensively
6) Khylan Hunt - Plattsburgh - Good all around player
7) Scott Morton - Geneseo - 2nd Team All League
8) Foulke-Henderson - New Paltz - 2nd Team All League
9) Nick Perioli - Oswego (if he comes back) - All League several times
10) Damon Brown - Potsdam - Has shown flashes of brillance, needs consistency

Yes...I put 4 Plattsburgh guys on there because they are all good enough to be on the list. Names that just miss this list include Dion Mozelle - Buff St, Mike Lewis - Cortland, Brad Cooper - Fredonia, Tim Reinhardt - Potsdam. Not sure what Morrisville has but I know they have had a ton of talent in the past.

slicky - good picks i like em... i DO like dion mozelle's game ALOT.. i saw him play a few times last year and he plays with much heart.. i also like kitson from geneseo, i believe he was a junior last year and even snaged POW early in the season... lastly downing from oswego, he really came on at the end of the year last year, he and perioli will be a tough backcourt..

With school starting, any word on who made it to campus (recruits, transfers) and who didn't come back?

Williams ,Gorham, Hunt, Miller all return for the two-time defending SUNYAC champions.

Congrats to Coach Whitmore.
I wish him well .
He wasn't happy at Bport, maybe a change in scenery will help.
Brockport hoops will survive without him.

I'm surprised that no one mentioned that SUNYIT is going to the NEAC next year, at least on this board. I think the move makes sense especially since Coach Murphy left last year. The only sport that it has been somewhat respectable is men's basketball.

The past couple of years that have had some fabulous players and have had unprecedented success. In the past they had some quality players such as Keith Glenn and Will Mensah to go along with some of the guys from the past 2 years.

John McGraw

"With the exception of our SUNY name we share little else with our counterparts in the SUNYAC – from budget and resources, enrollment, sports sponsorship and facilities, we pale by comparison" said Grimmer. "The NEAC consists of institutions very similar to SUNYIT in those categories and, like the SUNYAC, awards automatic bids to the NCAA postseason for conference champions."

"In the NEAC our student-athletes will be on a level playing field and our teams will have the opportunity to compete for those championships and postseason play."

-Taken from an article on WKTV's web site regarding SUNYIT going to the NEAC.

Discuss.

Looks like it is a better fit for SUNYIT from a competition stand point... but will be considerably more travel from a budget stand point.  If they can afford it, it is a good move for the student athletes...

I am guessing this is an across the board move for the school... and not just basketball.  Is that correct?

Yes, it is.

On the NEAC message board is the link to the press release.

This really helps the NEAC.  The NEAC's "better" programs are being "cherry-picked" up the pecking order of conferences for numerous reasons.  The NEAC will need some help from new legislation in January 2008 that it has submitted to the NCAA for approval to keep its Pool A bids more easily.

I think that the travel is worth it if the student-athletes have a better chance at a conference championship.  :)

Coaching help arrived today at Cortland. Tom Spanbauer's new confidante? His bride, Brookley Abbate. Honeymoon plans put on hold to allow the happy couple to plot for upcoming season. We're on the verge, folks. Red Dragons return pretty fair frontcourt, but must shore up guard slots. Look for at least one frosh to break into starting lineup.

WYN, I read early about your early prediction for Bport for the chase or favorite, im not quite so sure i agree with you, I think you of are will be Bport in the chase this year.  They are returning just about everyone and will be better coached at that point in the season, port wont be fully gelled with the return of harris similarly to last year at that time.

I also heard Betts is not coming to bport it was just a rumor.  However, I have seen Cantrell Parrish play this summer and he looks like he is going to be much more of a force next year, making bport even more competitive come NCAA tourny time.

SAINT LOUIS - Seniors Anthony Williams and Travis Gorham have been selected Preseason All-Americans by The Sporting News, and their Plattsburgh State men's basketball teammates have been listed as a "possible breakthrough team" by the national publication for the 2007-08 season.

Williams, a 6-1 guard from Brooklyn, N.Y. (Robeson High School/Morgan State), is a second-team choice as the reigning State University of New York Athletic Conference and Eastern College Athletic Conference (Upstate) Player of the Year.  He was a consensus all-region choice by D3hoops.com, ECAC and National Association of Basketball Coaches during his junior season, when he led the SUNYAC with a 21.0 scoring average.  He also had 59 3-pointers, 122 assists and 45 steals.  For his efforts, he was named to the All-America teams by NABC (third team) and Division III Bulletin (honorable mention).

A 6-6 forward out of Bridgeport, Conn. (Bridgeport Central HS/Post University), Gorham is an honorable mention pick after averaging 13.2 points and a SUNYAC-leading 10.5 rebounds per game as a junior.  He also shot 55.0 percent from the field, dished 73 assists and blocked 41 shots.  Gorham was the 2007 SUNYAC Tournament MVP and earned all-conference second team honors.

The Cardinals, who are two-time defending SUNYAC champions and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Tournament, are coming off a season in which they set a school-record for victories with a 21-9 record, including 11-5 in the conference for second place during the regular season. As a "possible breakthrough team", Plattsburgh is essentially ranked in the Preseason Top 30 by TSN.  The squad is scheduled to return 12 players, including four starters.

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - The Plattsburgh State men's basketball team made its national ranking debut in the D3hoops.com Top 25 on Thursday, peaking at No. 16 in the preseason poll of 25 coaches, sports information directors and media members from across the country.  The Cardinals received 161 points. For D3hoops.com Top 25, click here .

In addition, Plattsburgh is rated 13th by Basketball Times (formerly Street and Smith's ) and reigning conference player of the year Anthony Williams has been named to the publication's Preseason All-America Team.

Plattsburgh is the two-time defending champions of the State University of the New York Athletic Conference, qualifying for back-to-back NCAA Division III tournament appearances the last two seasons for the first time in school history.  The Cardinals return four starters among 12 players off last season's squad that set a school record for victories (21-9) and won a NCAA tournament game for the first time in 30 years.

Plattsburgh, which is led by The Sporting News Preseason All-Americans Travis Gorham and Williams, is also ranked in the TSN Preseason Top 30.

"It's great recognition for the school and I'm proud that the national media is taking note of the program's accomplishments the past two seasons," said 2007 SUNYAC Coach of the Year Tom Curle, who is set to begin his fifth season on the Cardinals bench.  "But we have to continue to work hard.  It matters to us where we are at the end of the season."

Brockport State is the only other SUNYAC school noted in the D3hoops.com and Basketball Times rankings, listing at No. 7 (379 points) with one first-place vote and No. 3, respectively.  The Golden Eagles (26-6) won the 2007 conference regular-season title at 14-2, finishing three games ahead of runner-up Plattsburgh (11-5).

bports

Brockport played a pretty good team from outside Toronto last night and came away with a 99-90 win. Ryerson of toronto went 6'8", 6'10" and 6' 11" across ther front line and Bport started with 4 guards and Brandon Williams. Brockport lead by 1 at the half and pulled away around the 10 min mark. Ryerson cut it to6  a couple of times but bport wore them out. Ryerson reminded me of geneseo alot except much taller, a very disciplined team. It looks like jermaine johnson is in for a good year for the port. He got the start and does all the little things you need to win. He had to have about 12 pts 6 reb and 4 assts, kind of reminds me of a josh pace type of player. Williams had a great game along with poles, wilkes didnt play to well and got in foul trouble. shawn harris didnt really do much but newcomer 6' 6" eamon kayes had a very solid game off the bench. When harris and parish come back after the 5th game it will be interesting to see who comes out of the starting lineup. Not that it really matters everyone will get some run Dunne played about 12 guys even without those 2 last night

Jacketfan2011

bsports - do you know if freshman Andy Foote played for B-port last night and if so, how did he look?  Thanks
