Brockport drops 97-93 opener to Rowan in Lebanon Valley tourney semi. Rowan with four regulars returning from 20-6 squad

thebear

Was at both games of the NC Tourney.

IC was without Bostic, but Leahy/Brown both played well, so difference with Bostic may have been incremental.  Burton [no doubt a first rate D-III guard] played 40', and it was obvious last 6 or 7 that the pace and minutes were impacting his shots and T'overs (Burton had 10).  Potsdam has relays of tenacious athletic wings, and that's where the game was decided.  D. Brown, A. Dike, A Williams Jr., D. Taft & B. Graney mean the wings play hard the whole time they're in the game.  They rebounded and ran the floor well at both ends.

Siskavich was hampered with foul trouble vs. IC, but against Clarkson, showed his perimeter game, which at 6'8 is not all that common at the D-III level.  Pickering is a D-III center with an NFL tight end's body, but Siskavich more than held his own.  Clarkson had huge graduation losses and is still sorting through their PG and perimeter rotation.  They don't appear to have much help for Pickering in the post, but two frosh, Marquis and Lasalita appear to have talent and desire.

SUNYAC shaping up to be a beast of a league, 'port & Platty both have top 25 talent, Geneseo has size and veterans, Buff St always has athletes, Cortland always well-coached, Oswego has Perioli & supporting cast, good teams will be left out of the top 8.  Potsdam has 8 veterans, solid PG Xfer in Serge Clement, and 6'11 first year player Greg Lothridge, who has skills and could be a factor down the stretch.

I think the East region as a whole is much better than in recent years.  Empire 8 although probably not having a team to threaten deep in the ncaa has 4-5 candidates to make the ncaa's this year, possibly getting 2 in if they dont beat each other up too much.  Sunyac at the top very very good, and liberty league is descent as well.  UofR considered east region should have an excellent year as well.

SUNYAC, with addition of Morrisville,is once again split between East And West

West:  Brockport, Buffalo State, Fredonia, Geneseo,Morrisville,Oswego

East: Cortland,New Paltz, Oneonta, Plattsburgh, Potsdam, SUNYIT.

This is the same format when Binghamton, Albany and UB were part of the conference.

Any insight if it will stay this way after SUNYIT leaves.  Maybe one of the other tech schools will join since it seems that they are all becoming 4 year colleges.  Maybe Canton or Alfred?  Cobleskill is joining same conference as SUNYIT.  Maybe one of the SUNY schools near the city(NYC).  Will be interesting to follow.

This being said, Does anyone know the playoff format?  Top 4 schools from each conference?  When looking at each school's schedule, it seems that the east  play the west  once and they play each team in this conference twice.

It should be a fun year.

thebear

Canton's going NAIA, as D-III new admits are frozen.  Only SUNY 4 years not in the conference are Purchase, Old Westbury, & Farmingdale, which are 300+ miles from Plattsburgh, Potsdam, and Fredonia.  Other Techs are Alfred, Delhi, but again with D-III on moratorium, don't know if  they can join if not a provisional D-III.

Assume it will be similar to the past, top two seeds in each conference will host bottom two in the quarters.  I think in the past they crossed divisions in the quarters to give the 1 seeds best chance at the finals.  Since everyone plays each other at least once, plenty of head-to-head to determine tie breakers for hosting.  Will try to find out if hosting is predetermined (East or West) or based on overall conference record.  In the past it was predetermined IIRC.

West looks very tough, 'port, Geneseo with a win at NYU, Buff St, Oswego with Perioli back.

Happy football/turkey.  Very weird here in Cali, parade at breakfast, football at 9AM.

Thanks, Bear Boys. We just hadn't gotten around to taking note of new setup, though we were aware. Highest remaining seed (best record if 1 vs. 1?) hosts Final Four, we think. Great to see action back on campus. Geez, it's difficult trying to keep up long distance (from F.L.A.).

Can't remember conference ever being this strong.

Young Cortlands and Span -- he the Dean of SUNYAC coaches, in Rochester Tourney tonight vs. 'Jackets. Balwin-Wallace and Ohio Wesleyan duel. Matinees for Sunday duty

Jacketfan2011

Everything you say about the UR/Cort game is true jdex, but the really telling stat was rebounding.  UR held a 41-29 advantage.  The "bigs" - Ndubizu, Onyiriuka and Millbrand - combined for 39 points as well.
