bearnation

Wasn't it the SUNY  Pattsburgh's men's ice hockey that wasn't allowed to play in  NCAA tournament for breaking NCAA  rules.  I can't remember Potsdam ever being sanctioned by the NCAA.  I wasn't around for the 70's {still in elementary/middle school}, but I did enjoy many games from 83-86(32-0 NCAA Champs).  Jerry Welsh won many games and graduated many players. Many have gone on to do great things.  He has always been a class act.  The one thing about Potsdam being  small in size is that the players lived with us,  they were friends with us,  they went to school with us, won games for us, and graduated with us.  This is what makes Potsdam a great place to go to school and why  many of the Alumni keep giving back to the school. Even when the temp was never above zero for most of the second semester.

Great game tonite at Memorial Hall in Pburgh. Oswego jumped out to an early lead against the Cards and maintained it for most of the 1st half. Cards finally caught them around the 3 min. mark but Lakers managed to grab the lead 46-43 at the half. Oswego stretched it to a 6 pt. lead and the Cards responded with a run of their own to open up their biggest lead of the nite at 70-60. Lakers fought back to close it 83-81 with a chance to tie it or win with 10 sec. left but Nick Perioli missed a 2 pt jumper and Plattsburgh knocked down 3 foul shots to clinch it.
Anthony Williams led the Cards with 24 points followed by Travis Gorham and Khylan Hunt with 21 each. Mahamoud Jabbi tossed in a game high 25 points to lead the Lakers followed by Kyle Reuter and Perioli with 14 each. Tommy Downing also hit double figures with 13 points.

Just back from Potsdam-Clarkson game.  Reversal was in part due to personnel.  Potsdam leading scorer Damon Brown, (13 ppg) and top frontcourt reserve Brendan Graney (9 ppg/5 rpg) did not dress due to injuries sustained last night.
Clarkson in earlier contests was missing front court reserves Ryan Smith & Jonathan Hood who compbined for 6 rebs & 5 points in 29'.

Clarkson led by 8 at half, Potsdam clawed back to lead by one, but the Clarkson maintained a 1-4 point lead the rest of the way.  Bears had opportunities to close down the stretch, but balky foul shooting (10x21 after 12x13 the night before) doomed the hosts.  26 fouls in contest didn't help undermanned Potsdam club either.

Bears now off for Finals & Holiday break until 1/3 at Keystone.

With Plattsburgh and Bport the clear front-runners for the 'Yac, and deservedly so...don't sleep on a very good Geneseo team.  They should likely be 8-0 heading into the Chase and have knocked off a few pretty decent teams thus far.  There aren't too many teams that claim to have a better 4some than Morton, Kling, Howe, and Kitson (averaging about 60ppg between the 4 of them)!
