Comes word from Cortland of Jan. 5 passing of venerable Whitney T. "Pete" Corey at 88. In various capacities -- student, athlete, teacher, multi-sport coach, administrator (including acting president), he touched Cortland college for 40+ years. Directed Red Dragons hoops 11 seasons (146-77);  won pair of SUNYAC titles including conference's first. Current gym bears his name. Was native of Mohawk, NY, which also produced in early '60s another of Cortland's all-timers -- basketball's Dave Bleau. He was coached by Pete, one of the finest gentleman we've ever met.
