Port fans must have went wild when Harris' trey was called off. Shades of the infamous Baltimore Ravens time out against  the Patriots.

Pat Coleman

Probably but the whistle was well ahead of the shot.

Pat would certainly know  .......following was lead to Bport website info:

Men's Basketball Falls to Rochester in Chase Tourney
Brockport will play Geneseo for third place Saturday

A late 3-point basket by senior Sherod Harris (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) that would have tied the game with under a minute to play was disallowed as a University of Rochester player was on the floor injured and the Yellowjackets, ranked No. 1 in the country in the latest D3Hoops.com poll, used the momentum changing moment to carry them to a 75-70 victory in a semifinal game of the JP Morgan/Chase Scholarship Basketball Tournament Friday evening at the Palestra on the campus of the University of Rochester.

The key play in the closing seconds of the game came as Rochester's Robert Dominiak and Brockport's Cantrel Parrish (Buffalo, NY/Grover Cleveland) crashed to the floor battling for control of a rebound. Parrish won the battle and flipped a pass to Harris who sank a 3-point shot that would have tied the score at 73-73 but the whistle had blown to stop play with Dominiak on the floor with an injury to his head.

Suggest y'all check out UR's press release .......bit less partisan? Or at least no mention of controversy ......

I was there and i will tell you that it was a TERRIBLE call. You can't blow the whistle and stop a play while a guy has a wide open 3. And it's not like the whistle was blown, and he shot it 2 seconds after the fact, it basically happened simultaneously. HOrrible call! But maybe if Bport made their lay-ups all game they wouldn't of had to worry about that, but definitely a game changing (and saving) call for UR.

aaaaaah    Don't you just love Division III basketball in Rochester New York.

Home team ranked #1 in the country. Home team up by three.  Home team's player goes to the ground while upstart "SUNY" school has the ball and an open shot by a pre-season All-American.     Tweeeeet  no basket....

I say this just in JEST, because if this was in Brockport and a Brockport player was on the ground, the whistle would have been blown also.  At Fisher and a Fisher player on the floor, most likely the same deal.  Whichever team DIDN'T get the basket counted would have been upset.  It just so happened this
occurred at the Palestra, in a tight game between two VERY GOOD teams.   What this WILL DO, is make for interesting LATE SEASON conversation IF U of R can remain undefeated.

It's a judgement call (by the official) as to IF and WHEN to blow the whistle.  IF the players were on the floor around the basket and IN the way of MORE HARM, the whistle was probably a good thing.  If the whistle came when the pile up was behind the play and no player was in dire need of protection then MAYBE it was a bad whistle.

WHAT IF, the same thing would have happened at St John Fisher during the NCAA game last March as Anthony Williams of Plattsburgh hit the GAME WINNING 3 with 3 seconds left in the game to beat the U of R?  Now, THAT would have been a conspiracy :)

I was there as well and agree it was a terrible call.  No question it should have been a flagrant foul on Brockport.   ;D

Regardless of who you were rooting for the whistle clearly blew before the shot and is was long enough before that players stopped playing.  There were a basketfull of ridiculous calls in this game.  One official in particular seemed to be playing to the camera.

Despite all of the above, it was a GREAT game to watch.

Am confused (not unusual) by last post. A terrible call? Flagrant? That in reference to UR player going to the floor via possible rough play?

On another point, if play is ahead of a possible injury isn't action allowed to continue until that sequence comes to a halt via basket, set offense or some other stoppage of play? Seems like we've seen that often. Have also seen officials use discretionary action .....

Jacketfan2011

I used "terrible" sort of tongue in check.  And flagrant was an overstatement, but Dominiak was riden  headfirst to the floor and a whistle was the right call.  My impression was that that Harris shot the ball after hearing the whistle and had no intention of shooting before hearing it.  Though he has pretty much unlimited range...

And Larry Parker missed the last 7 games of his Senior Season with a broken eye socket thanks to some unknown "Thug" at Cortland who cold-cocked Larry with a flagrant elbow early in the 2nd half sending him to the hospital.  He missed three or four conference games AND STILL was named 1st team and MVP of the league that year.  To tell you what kind of person Larry was, he apologised to his teammates for missing the games. I also believed Larry played the 74-75 season also. He as a sophomore in 75-76 season when we went to the Final Four.

On Thursday of this week the Plattsburgh State basketball team was my guest for a "get off the bus and shoot around" at my high school alma mater.  Turns out the JV basketball coach at Palmyra Macedon HS (Dan Harris) played for Tom Curle at Alfred State when Tom was coaching there in the late 1980s.
I thought I told Dan the Plattsburgh coach's name, but when I saw both of their reactions upon Tom's entry to the gym, it was a shock to all three of us.

Lots of laughing and joking going on.  Lots of interesting gazes from the JV and Varsity ball players wondering who all the 6' 7" and taller guys were.  Fed them some pizza and they left for Fredonia later that night.   This marks the fourth visit for a Plattsburgh State mens basketball team to my home town.
Once in the mid 1960's my former health teacher (also a Plattsburgh grad) invited the team to her home while they were in Rochester for games.  She had just become a teacher at my high school and knew most of the team from her college days. The visits during the 1976-77 season and 1978-79 seasons was my idea to get some HOME COOKING and invite a "few" friends over to meet the folks.  This year was a simple thank you gift to my "new" fellow teammates for their success last season.  It was good to talk to Anthony W., Antwan, Kylan, Travis and the other returnees.  The new guys seem to be perfect fits with the program.  All the teams have been the defending SUNYAC champions.  So far the team won-lost record after these "extra" stops on the West-bound road trips have been 5-1.  We only lost the first game  during the 1976-77 trip. My mother fed the traveling squads of 25 players, coaches, managers and trainers during the first two visits and this year it was my turn to be the host.
