Plattsburgh-Cortland game was a  tight game throughout. Cards grabbed an early 5 point lead but Red Dragons came right back and held the lead for most of the 1st half gaining a 35-31 advantage at the break. Cards came out and closed to within 1 but Cortland went back up by 6. Game was eventually tied by the Cards with about 5 mins. to play and it was back and forth until Khylan Hunt hit a big 3 to put the Cards up 68-65 with 1:28 to play. When Cortland turned it over on their next possession they immediately fouled Travis Gorham who made both foul shots to extend the lead to 5. Anthony Williams hit 4 foul shots down the stretch to preserve the victory.
Khylan Hunt led the Cards with 17 pts along with 9 rebounds. Williams had 15 pts T. Gorham 9pts 11boards and 7assists. Ricky Rider 11pts. Big game off the bench for Freshman Errol Daniyan with 13 pts and Frosh Chris Ruiz with 9 pts.
Red Dragons were led by Mike Lewis with 25 pts and 8 boards Will Coston had 19pts with 5 3's and Paul Oliver had 10 pts.

Back from Potsdam - SUNYIT game.

Bears stumbled out of the gate and were down 0-12 after about 5 minutes. Sound defense & solid rebounding allowed them to close within 1 at Half.  Damon Brown went off for season high 27 for the Bears as the two teams punched & counter-punched through 1st 10 of second half, before Potsdam's defensive pressure and transition steadily built to final score.

Repeating a pattern, Potsdam played without regular SG Anthony Williams Jr, on bench in civvies.

Long time member of the Potsdam program points out that Damon Brown may be as offensively talented as anyone to wear the maroon & gray, including a long list of D-III AA's & a couple of D-III POY's.

SUNYIT frosh D. Hahn and D. Golembiowski are nice looking players, who bode well for Wildcats as the drop down to NEAC competition after this season.  Both are big, skilled, and athletic.

Bears host Brockport and Geneseo next weekend.  Since both teams are focused on Plattsburgh, possibility Potsdam could steal a couple of wins and even their SUNYAC record.

Big road trip next weekend for the B-port Golden Eagles. Lightnin' Rod, B-Dubs & the Eagle Machine better be hitting on all cyclinders at both ends to grab TWO HUGE wins up north. Potsdam did beat St. Lawrence, and the 'Burg'is the TEAM to beat --if they want to host the SUNYAC's. It's never easy to win at those places. You are always playing 5 against 7 up north! Those officials want what few games they can get!!!! The word on the street is" the coaches and officials are related." (haha)

Having participated and being a highly interested spectator in both the North Country and Rochester basketball areas, I don't believe the North Country officials are NOT any more biased than the Rochester Area group.  It's much more easier for a Brockport team to beat a North Country team THERE, than for a SUNYAC North Country team to beat against a Brockport or Geneseo or St John Fisher ,,,,,   down in Rochester.   You Brockport fans even complain about the officiating in Rochester.  (i.e. U of R vs Brockport this past Chase, and Brockport against St John Fisher (pick a game)).

That didn't serve Brockport very well last year  ;)

Plattsburgh State should move up 5 or 6 spots in the upcoming Top 25 poll but the voters haven't given them much respect this year so it wouldn't surprise me if that doesn't happen. They were ranked at #11 the 1st week and proceeded to drop to 13th then 14th despite starting out 6-0. After crossing the country they beat a decent Chapman team and lost the next night to a very good Occidental team 69-64. After a 2 week layoff they returned to action and lost to a Gordon team currently sporting an 11-3 record which dropped them to #25 in the poll. Since that wake up call they've reeled off 5 in a row and sit atop the SUNYAC standings with a 6-0 mark, & ranked #21 in the latest poll. In the past week The following teams all lost. #2 Brandeis, #4Mary Hardin-Baylor(lost twice), #8 Williams, #9Augustana,(their 3rd loss, 1 of which was to 7th place UW-LaCrosse of the Wisconsin IAC), #12 Elmhurst, #15 Stevens, #16 UW-Oshkosh, #17 Guilford(now with 4 losses, 1 of which was to Greensboro, a team Plattsburgh beat 92-59), #18 Wheaton, Illinois(now with 3 losses), #19 Wooster(also 3 losses),#24 Carnegie Mellon(lost twice). The Univ. of Rochester certainly deserves their #1 ranking but the voters should know that the last time they were defeated was in the NCAA's last March 2nd by Plattsburgh 61-60. Both of these teams returned virtually their entire starting line-ups and it's entirely possible they could meet again down the road if they are both fortunate enough to make the Div. III tournament.
It's too bad Brockport had that 3 game losing streak the 1st week of Jan. because I really think they're a much better team than 9-5 and after climbing to #17 in the D3 poll it would have been great for the SUNYAC conference to have 2 ranked teams to help offset the UAA, WIAC and CCIW conferences come NCAA bid time.

Not enough love? they started the season out in the top 20, moved up to almost in the top 10, have to not so good losses and are still in the top 25, i think they have gotten as much love as they could get.  I am not undermining them as i would like to see any of the upstate conf have teams in the top 25 just given plattsburgh's wins and losses, i think they are exactly where they deserve to be.  I think they can be a top 10 team and can do some serious damage in the ncaa tourny if they stay disciplined enough, but, two losses to unranked teams dont help.

Can't argue with --"didn't serve them well last year," BUT this is a new year!!! Basically the same squads, but I think the Burg has recruited a little better the the Port. The North Country comment will stand though. Those guys got to be related--You got to be at least 10 points better than the home team to win up there. Seen it way too many times!!! Ask any of the coaches not from the area. Anyway hopefully will be an exciting weekend of hoops---Go Port!!!!!

One last comment---Why do the officials and coaches ride to the game together, in the North Country?

"...Not enough love? they started the season out in the top 20, moved up to almost in the top 10,..."

They started the year at #13 and dropped every week except last week.   Dropped every week even when they were undefeated.
