Saturday night, the Plattsburgh paper listed 912 as the attendance for the Potsdam-Plattsburgh game, as described it as a sold-out gym.  SRO, I would say they can hold (not seat) 1,000.

Bear

I know I said the place was packed the other night for the Potsdam game and that they were turning people away, but I should clarify my remarks. All the bleachers looked filled for the first time in several months because Plattsburgh had a home game on Dec. 7th against Oswego and then went on the road for their next 6 games. They didn't play at home again until Jan. 18th and the college wasn't in session so no students to fill the place up. In fact The Potsdam game on Sat. was the 1st time the students were at a game since that Dec 7th Oswego game. The 4 home games we had in Jan. were well attended but nothing like last Sat. when the kids were back. We actually had Cheerleaders and line dancers present. I don't know how the paper determined there were 912 people in attendance. They can't spell, usually have their facts wrong,(they have stated at least 3 times in the past two weeks that the Cardinals are undefeated on the road. I guess losing in Calif. and at the Union tournament aren't considered road games.) So I'd be real surprised if they could count. Anyway despite turning people away there were seats to be had. Also it was Special Olympics night at Memorial Hall and if the count was based on ticket sales none of the olympians were counted as they were given free admission. They had 3 or 4 rows of bleacher seats at one end blocked off for them right behind Plattsburgh bench. That's where my friends and I usually sit and we had to move to the other side of the gym because there were quite a few olympians present, along with their relatives to watch them play a mini BB game against the Plattsburgh Soccer team. Why the ticket sellers were turning people away was strange because usually if it's jam packed you'd think they would get on the PA and ask people to squeeze together to allow more people in. My buddy's daughter's are both Potsdam girls. One graduated last year and one is a JR. this year. The graduate had 3 or 4 of her Potsdam buddies come over for the game and they arrived a little late and they were denied admission. She called up dad on his cell phone and he had to go out and argue with the ticket people so the girls could get in to see the game. We had at least 6 or 7 seats available where we were sitting so they finally got in after a minor argument. I kind of did a rough count the other night and I figured there were probably about a 1000 people present with room for about another 100 or so if everyone were squeezed together.

On another note I was impressed with Damon Brown the other night . Good shooter, good range, athletic, and can go to the hoop. Alvin Dike is pretty solid player as well. Those two along with Siskavich all coming back next year bodes well for the Bears. Reinhardt looked good but foul trouble kept him out for much of the game. He'll be missed next year but only losing 3 guys makes me think you'll be in the thick of things come tourney time.

Now the way I see it the Bears are going to go 3-1 in their last 4 games to finish up with a 7-9 conference record. They'll beat Oneonta, New Paltz, and SUNYIT, but most likely lose to Cortland on the road.

Oneonta with only 3 games left will lose to Potsdam, Plattsburgh, and beat New Paltz to finish at 7-9 as well, but you'll hold the tiebreaker over them.

Buffalo St. with 5 games left will beat Morrisville and Fredonia but lose to Brockport, Geneseo, and Oswego to finish 6-10.

That will give the Bears the 6th overall seed and will most likely mean a trip to Oswego for a 1st round game. Oswego and Cortland both have 3 losses but if Plattsburgh can beat Cortland on the road Feb. 22nd (and that's a big if-I can see their perfect Conference record coming to an end that day, but I hope not) then Cortland will have 4 losses and Oswego probably won't make up the game against SUNYIT that was canceled on Feb.1st. The Lakers finish with games against Fredonia, Buff St. and Morrisville and will end up with a 12-3 record and hold the tiebreaker over Cortland making the SUNYIT game meaningless for both teams.

So there you have it . Now, once all that happens your (our, Iwent there too, remember) Bears just have to beat Oswego in that 1st round game and you'll be coming over to visit Plattsburgh for the Semi's. After that you're on your own. ;D

Wouldn't it be nice if it played out that way?

By the way you'll know this I'm sure. When was the last time a team ran the table in the conference? Do we have to go all the way back to those great Bears teams of the 80's or has it been done more recently than that?

Seeing a specific number of 912 and not one rounded off to 0 or 5, I would speculate as Major did that that number is based on ticket sales.  The 1000 count listed as capacity may be the "comfortable seating" count whereas 1200 would be the "tight squeeze" capacity.  I know it used to be in the 1500 range before the renovations.

I happened to notice today that Keene St beat Northeast #2 ranked U Mass Dartmouth 92-85.

I also happened to notice that SUNYAC East cellar dweller New Paltz (2-11 conference) beat Keene St 90-86 in OT earlier this season.

Is the East the beast this year?  Rochester, Plattsburgh, Brockport, Stevens all very talented.

Amherst seems to have avoided the best in the east, despite being right next door (72 miles from St. Line).  Surely they could have scheduled Plattsburgh or Vassar or SLU rather than two vs. (5-17) So. Vt.

Also think the regional rule needs to be expanded to include any school in a state bordering on the state a school is located.  That would allow NY to count regional games in Vt, Ma, CT, NJ, & PA.  Would greatly improve the cross-tabulation of ratings if these games were in region.  Might encourage play between NESCAC and SUNYAC, LL, E-8.

For Potsdam, SLU, Clarkson, there are four schools (Middlebury, Johnson St, Green Mtn, Castleton St) located within 200 miles that are "in region" that are not in NY.

Bear, we used to play three of the four you listed each year back in 75-80.  Only Middlebury was a contest. Add Lyndon State and Norwich Academy to that list also.

Not from Potsdam - just beyond the 200 mile limit.

Stupid why games in NYC/NJ/PA (except NYU) don't count as in region.

Still waiting for the answer to my question. Who and when was the last team to run the table in the  SUNYAC confrence? Probably gonna jinx the Cardinals by talking about it, especially when we have to travel to Cortland next weekend but I think the team will be up for the challenge. I'm guessing it probably occured during that 60 game win streak the Bears had but that was over 20 years ago. Just don't know if anyone has done it since then.

That would be my job  ;D

I'll check.  No one has done it in this decade, Brockport was 15-1 in '03-04, but were upset by my Bears in the SUNYAC final.

I have a hunch that Buff State with Nate Gainey ran the table in the late 80's/early 90's at least once, and the great Geneseo teams with Scott Fitch were also capable of that type of performance.
