"...and one that I can't describe here...:"

I would tend to agree.  Not sure what those pair(s) were doing in the very front toward the end of the program.  Maybe that's why that lady was taken away by the medical staff.   ;)

sjfcards

Does anyone have the pairings for the SUNYAC tournament? Plattsburg seems to be right there, but it could still be fun!
GO FISHER!!!

Magic--I hope that the Geneseo loss won't hurt the Eagles Pool C chances too. They definitely need to make the SUNY finals to possibly get a berth now. They are very talented and, as zola said, would probably do well in the NCAA's as they have the experience and understanding to compete at that level. They better just go out and win the SUNY's and have no question whether they are going or not!!!!Good luck Eagles!!!

Congrats to the Burg--16-0 super regular season!! Now the super season starts---Good Eagles!!

Other than Plattsburgh, I think it's pretty safe to say that Geneseo may bethe hottest team in the conference heading into the tourny.  Big win over Bport last night in which they basically controlled the game from start to finish and 7-1 down the stretch with Kitson back in the lineup.  Lets not forget that their midseason struggles came with him out of the lineup, and as a senior and 1 of there big 4, his importance can't be undervalued.  Good luck to th Knights in the tourny...it should be a great week in the 'Yac!

"They should flip Fredonia and Oneonta trips to save gas....  game results will end up the same, won't they?"

Max-man, You sound like an NCAA tourney official ......LOL ....

Here's what the Plattsburgh Athletics site says about ticket distribution for the possible THREE different conference championship games to be played in their arenas.

http://www.plattsburgh.edu/athletics/cardathletics/tickets.php

For basketball it is 1000 tickets to be sold.

I'll send an email to the athletic department and the Sports Information dept.

"...Finally, after complaining about the Aud for years, I may have to deal with the finals in the Plattsburg cracker box. Be careful what you wish for. Let's hope they show the game closed circuit on campus or many are likely to get totally shut out..."

They have the capability to do this through the communications department.  It also has been done in the past.

With thanks to Josh Reilly, SUNYAC Publicist,

Before this year's Plattsburgh team, the last SUNYAC team to go through a regular season undefeated was Potsdam in 1988-89, when they went 10-0 to win the East Division.  This was a stretch where the Bears had 43 wins in 44 SUNYAC games from November 85- February 89.

Congrats to the Cards for a well-earned regular season championship.

I hear that SUNY Plattssburgh is going to put skyboxes and stadium seating in the hockey field house.  This must be the next step for the hockey team to move to the  Division I level.  I'm really surprised this hasn't happened yet.  Why does the hockey team plays in a beautiful 3000+ stadium while the basketball team(SUNYAC tournamnent) plays in a dudgeon downtown?  Why hasn't the college ever fixed the field house gym to make it suitable to play a high level basketball game?  Basketball will always take a back seat to hockey at SUNY plattsburgh.  Hockey #1,  Basketball #5.  Look at all the improvements the college has made over the last decade and still nothing for the basketball team.  One of the earlier poster said Plattsburgh graduates all of their student-athletes.  Can you tell us what percent of the hockey team graduates from Plattsburgh? Maybe you can cut and paste this and put faces and numbers.  That is so creative.  I would like a star too!
If anyone drives to Plattsburgh and has to watch the game on a TV in the field house please let us know or ask yourself why there is no basketball court in there?
I watched the sectionII high school tournament at HVCC less year.  Their gym hold over 3000 and this is a 2 year community college.  Never been to Morrisville, until last year they were a 2 year school. I bet that their gym is better then the one at Plattsburgh!!  Plattsburgh is a state school!  What is the name on the field house and who was he?  They could have a first class place to play basketball.  No instead drive 400 miles to watch the game on TV! Thats not even crazy its insane!!

'burgh's Field House is named for the late Sen. Ron Stafford, who for many years chaired the higher ed committee in the State Senate and was instrumental in funding the growth of SUNY during the Rockefeller years.

Don't think Plattsburgh will go D-I hockey.  Already a moratorium on that, Clarkson & SLU had to wage quite a fight to keep D-I in one sport & D-III in others.  The 8 or 10 schools that do this (Union & RPI are others) are grandfathered, but the NCAA basically says no mas, If you want D-I scholarships, you have to go all the way in all your sports.

With Plattsburgh's economic base and SUNY's athletic fee structure (increase limited to the higher education CPI), funding for full scholarships tough to find, and out of D-I schools in the East playing hockey, SUNY 4 years (with all due respect to the fact that you & I are grads of that fine system) near the bottom of the prestige ladder. - Full Ride to SLU now worth nearly $200K vs. $70 at SUNY - where would you go?

Memorial Hall is a 1964ish Standard SUNY Gym, like those at Geneseo (Schrader), Fredonia (Dodds) etc.  They did replace the floor a few years ago.  Other SUNY Schools also using older wood floored gyms, as rubber floors are a major injury risk.

Stafford Field House at Plattsburgh is like the one at Maxcy with a rubber floor, and the floor is bubbled in spots, so not safe to play, or desirable, as sight lines in these field houses are terrible for shooters. Cost for a portable floor is about $250 K for a decent one, and still not as good as playing on an integrated hardwood floor. (Remember the famous "dead spots" on the parquet ar Boston Garden).

SUNY was running out of money at the time Stafford was built.  We had just opened Maxcy, but many programs were being cut in the '73-74-75 time frame, and Plattsburgh was basically told to make a decision, and they put their bucks into hockey.  I was the student financial rep for athletics at Potsdam during that time, and remember the tradeoffs that had to be made to get a wooden floor and good bleachers into the gym at Maxcy.  That's why the concrete blocks were bare in Maxcy for so long.

As Zola said, everyone bitched about playing in the Utica Aud, but now that we're faced with a battle of the titans in a tiny gym, Utica doesn't seem so bad.  I'm sure Brockport would rather be playing in Utica than in Plattsburgh.

Plattsburgh State Cardinals achieve their highest ever ranking in the D3Hoops Top 25 poll moving up 1 spot to # 10. They amassed a total of 411 points but are only 12 points out of 6th place. Augustana was 9th with 416, UW-Stevens Point 8th with 419, Washington U. 7th with 422, and Brandeis 6th with 423. Next week could bring more upward movement if they get it done this weekend. Go Cards!!!!

Bear,
Good explanation. I couldn't have said it any better. Agree with everything you said except for that last part about the battle of the titans in a tiny gym and Utica not being so bad. Would love to see the battle be the Cards and the Bears and no way would I want to be in Utica. I've waited 34 years to see Plattsburgh host a conference championship and the Cardinal faithful deserve to have the SUNYAC's here having never before been the host of the Final Four. 16-0 in one of the strongest SUNY conferences in recent memory gives us that right. And if NY State spent all that money the Lottery generates on education as they were originally supposed to do we'd probably have a bigger gym or renovated field house.  Memorial Hall may be tiny but it will be rockin come Saturday night.

And as far as Plattsburgh going to D-1 in hockey, there's been no mention of that over here. Not gonna happen. It's too bad that Plattsburgh's basketball program doesn't have a facility as nice as Maxcy Hall. In the past few years we've got a great new baseball field, thanks to the generosity of alumnus Chip Cummings whom the field is named after and the soccer program has a beautiful new synthetic turf field. As far as the Stafford Field House basketball court, about the only time it's used is this time of year for all the local high school sectional battles. We sure do miss Senator Stafford over here. If he were still with us and with the team we have this year he'd of had that new gym built by now. Oh well, hope to see you on the weekend right after the Bears upset the Lakers on Tuesday. (The last part of my equation, if you remember?)

Here's the way tonight's game could turn out.

Plattsburgh 81 Fredonia 68 Cards have too many offensive weapons. No upset here

Potsdam 74 Oswego 72  Reversal of fortune for the Bears

Cortland 70 Geneseo 67  Red Dragons win a tight one at home

Brockport 89 Oneonta 73  Different Golden Eagles team than 1st time they played
