"...Mahamoud Jabbi had 8 pts. 11 boards and an amazing 7 blocks. ..."

Very impressed with his play.  Quick leaper, with great timing.  Could use some more muscle, but really made a statement against Brockport

U of R well represented in the pre-NCAA scouting going on during the two SUNYAC games on Friday.  Also in attendance was a NCAA official who scouts possible venues.

Win on Saturday Cardinals and maybe you will host 1st/2nd round game(s).
Packed house. Enthusiatic fans (even Oswego's contingent in the first game).

Inconsistent officiating with attitudes.  Must have been the TV camera crews.

I think Plattsburgh should host even if they get upset on Saturday. 3rd straight year in the NCAA's, the best record in the East region by far, top ten national ranking, and Plattsburgh's never hosted an NCAA game. At some point it get's to be your turn. If not now, when? Hopefully the Cards will make it easy on the NCAA committee and win the automatic bid today. Last year St. John Fisher and St. Lawrence got to host. This year should be UR and Plattsburgh.

My first post... have been a fan of this forum for years.  Not wanting the season to be over and with the Bears out of the playoffs, I took the journey to Plattsbugh for the semi games.  I have to say that the atmosphere was outstanding... reminded me of the Bears sweet 16 game against Salem State a few years back.  I do hope, with all of the recent success of the Cards team, that the AD/administration puts some money into the gym as it really starting to show some wear and tear... a new floor would do wonders!

As for the games, I guess you could say that one was a tale of a team that wanted to be in the final versus one that thought it deserved to be in the title game.  It was sad to see Brockport, a team that many on this site feel could go deep in the tourney, make their lives even more difficult for a pool C birth by losing to Oswego.  That said, Oswego played outstanding all night long... Periolli and Jabbi were incredible.

The Cards vs. Geneseo was a fun game to watch... I haven't seen Plattsburgh shoot as bad as they did in the first half in a long time... even so, to only be down by a handful at the break was a good omen for them.  The second half became a game of runs and the Cards won out by making some clutch shots, holding the edge on fouls (13 vs. 6) and making free throws.  I was impressed with Geneseo... they execute better than any team in the conference.  They played well but the Cards were just to talented and to deep.

Oswego and Plattsburgh in a double dip tonight... 4pm hoops and 7pm hockey... both for conference supremacy and NCAA tournament bids on the line.  Should be fun... wish I was there... both venues will be hopping.

magic-I was there and very disappointing effort by the Eagles on the defensive end--no real sense of urgency in their eyes and that is the end result. The Oswego squad utilized the clock very well each posession and knocked down shots all night. They shot better than 50% first half with 9 offensive rebounds on misses. Felt bad for my Eagles but that's what happens!!! Didnt see the Cantrel Parrish move but if that's what happened its uncalled for--The Burg upheld their part even though not looking smooth doing it--Congrats to the Burg!!

I am sure a lot of the win had to do with Plattsburgh's superior talent but how do the Lakers just falter in the Finals every time they are there. I don't know if it's the players or the coaches but it seems like the same story every time they are there. Lack of intensity or is it the superior teams they have played in the finals throughout Coach Broderick's time there?

Slicky--I know what you are saying but I think Oswego are overachievers--No real quality wins this season other than Bport and nonleague schedule does have some challenge but not alot--I give the Lakers kudos for making it to the finals!!

But during the regular season and early rounds of the SUNYACs, the Lakers always seem to be able to compete, especially at home.  Zola & I were trying to remember the last time Potsdam won at Oswego, been a while.  Lakers also seem to do very well in the ECAC's usually winning or finishing second, but for some reason, they just can't win a SUNYAC title,  radio today said they haven't won a title since '65.  Long dry spell for one of the largest schools in the system, located in easy driving distance of both Rochester & Syracuse, and surrounded by top JUCO programs, they should be a powerhouse year after year.

Congrats to the Cards, well deserved, they've taken on all comers and are still unscathed by the SUNYAC wars (first team in 20 years to do so.).  Now if they could just get Senator Betty Little to write a member item for a high quality portable basketball floor in Stafford.

P.S.  Very disappointed in the job P'burgh sports info does.  Stats are rarely on their website, no mention of excellent broadcast by Oswego college station, no live stats.  As a former SID, when a school moves into lofty territory (3x SUNYAC titles qualifies, as does national ranking), they have to pick up the administrative side of their game as well.  Delventhal as a former D-I coach should know & demand that - but wait, he's a hockey guy.

Just returned from the SUNYAC championship game between Plattsburgh St. and Oswego St. Teams traded early baskets until Oswego went on a 7-0 spurt to grab  the advantage at 18-13 at the 11 min mark. Plattsburgh answered with a 10-2 run to lead 23-20 and opened it up a bit with another 11-4 run to take the first double digit lead of 34-24 with 2:13 left in the half. Cards went into the break up 39-26. Teams traded baskets to start the 2nd with Plattsburgh lead fluctuating between 10-15 pts and the Cardinals grabbed their largest lead of the game at 61-44 with 11:26 left to play. Oswegp managed to cut it to 10 with 8:25 remaining but that was as close as the Lakers would get.
Plattsburgh once again was led by All American and Tournament MVP Anthony Williams with 30 pts, 7 rebs, and 5 assists. He was 10x17 from the field with 3x4 from 3 pt. range and 7x8 from the charity stripe. Tournament all star Travis Gorham backed him up with another double -double of 19 pts. and 13 rebounds. Gorham was unstoppable inside as he hit on 8x11 attempts. Khylan Hunt, also was chosen to the all tournament team, as he finished with 14 pts on 3x9 fg's and 7x7 FT's. He also chipped in with 7 boards and 2 blocks. Antwane Miller hit some key buckets to end up with 10 pts on 4x7 fg's. Oswego was led by Kyle Reuter with 21 pts. on 7x10 fg's and 3x4 3 pt's & 4x5 FT's. Nick Perioli who was chosen for the all tournament team added 18 pts. on 5x15 fg's, 8x8 FT's and 7 assists. Tommy Downing also on the all tournament team ended up with 12 pts. on 4x19 fg's 3x4 FT's. Mahamoud Jabbi chipped in with 11 pts and a team high 10 boards.
Sherod Harris of Brockport St. was the other member of the all tournament team.

"...Sherod Harris of Brockport St. was the other member of the all tournament team...."

Jabbi of Oswego deserved it more for the two games he had.  That guy worked very hard during both games and played hard every minute he played.

I think keeping Downing #33 from making 3 pointers helped. He had some nice penetration scores but only 1 3pt that I can remember.

Travis Gorham and Kyhlan (GrandPa and the Forgotten man) played well enough to be considered MVPs, but Anthony Williams showed why (again) he was nick-named Big Shot.   Spider Guzman played good D and came through with 3-4 from the foul line when Oswego was on a seek and foul mission to find him.  It might have been the best FT shooting for Plattsbugh that I have seen.  Focus and Form.

Kudo's go to Tim '00' Havens and Ricky Rider who played all out on both ends.

Another spectacular crowd. Well behaved for a college crowd.  Good mix of college age students, old standards, and a surprising number of middle school to single didget aged young ones in the stands.  Hockey players from both schools, Plattsburgh baseball and lacrosse teams and the lady cardinal basketball team giving support.  A nice mix of some Oswego faithful made the trip also.

I agree with slickyquick and thebear about some of the problems with the Cardinal web-site.   I look at some of the other sites  and gotta believe that "we" can do a better job.   Like, getting the stats updated more than once a week, getting those stat pages to align correctly with the column headers for easier reading and more photos.   What's wrong with work study students with web-based training in order to get this site updated faster and "pretty it up"?    The internet site can be a GREAT tool, and is not being utilized to it's full potential.

Cards7580,

Good job giving the bench players tonight their due. Plus k for you.  And guys that rarely get a mention like RJ Ponesse, Farris Thomas, Lance Darrell, and Josh Bruno. They all came in at key times during the year when Travis or Khylan needed a break or were in foul trouble and made plays that were important to the team. It's tough to get minutes when you have 7 guys in front of you with the tools that Anthony, Antwane, Travis, Khylan, Ricky, Chris Ruiz, and Errol Daniyan possess. Their turn will come and hopefully they are the next group of Cardinals to keep Plattsburgh's championship streak alive. Ruiz and Daniyan were both huge contributors throughout the year and played like they were much older than the freshmen they were. Ruiz was instant offense off the bench and I lost track of how many times he entered a game and within seconds drained a 3 to give the team a big lift. And Daniyan's ability to crash the boards and get those putbacks was also a huge factor in many close contests. The Cardinals didn't lose much when these 2 young players replaced our starters. I must admit I was a little nervous tonight when I learned that Daniyan wasn't going to see any action because of his injury the previous night. Hopefully he'll be fine by this coming weekend.

Also agree that Jabbi from Oswego deserved to be on the all tournament team. He was 2 pts shy of a double-double for both nights along with his conference tournament record of 14 blocked shots. Tough to leave Sherod Harris off though. He's a great player and he got his points and assists as expected Friday night. As Coach Flynn said "You can't stop Harris or Brandon Williams, they're going to get their numbers, you just shut down the rest of the players", and that's exactly what Oswego did to the Golden Eagles on Friday night. No one else had more than 6 pts. Don't think that's happened this year before last night.

Thanks for the congrats. Very gracious of you. I know how disappointed you must be at the turn of events on Friday night. I was hoping to run into you but having never met I knew that would be difficult. I thought of going down to the Brockport bench area looking up at the fans, and shouting, where's scooterman? Probably would have worked as there wasn't that big of a crowd for the 1st game. Oh well, maybe next year.

I think the Golden Eagles were looking ahead to that match-up with Plattsburgh on Sat. night when they took the floor against the Lakers on Friday. They had handled them with relative ease both times during the regular season and Friday was just going to be another day at the office. Downing, Perioli, and Reuter can flat out shoot, and they wasted no time in heating up, especially Downing. And Bport got beat up on the boards 46-33 and 12 blocks led by Jabbi's 7. Basically Wilkes, Shawn Harris,(who hit the opening basket and never scored again) Parrish and Maldonado took the night off. 20 pts, 8 rebs, 4 assists, no steals and 6 turnovers between the 4 of them. That's the bad news.

The good news is there is still an outside chance that the Golden Eagles may get a Pool C bid. At this moment 12 Pool C bids are locked up.  Another 2 are locked up if the 2 conference leaders should lose in their conference final and don't get the automatic Pool A bid. That leaves 3 remaining Pool C bids left and there are presently 8 teams in contention for them. The 2 teams you need to root for are Worcester Polytech to beat Coast Guard in the NEWMAC final Sunday at Noon. And Mary Hardin-Baylor to beat Concordia-Austin in the ASC title game Sunday at 2:00. If those 2 teams win they get Pool A bids and that will free up 2 more Pool C bids to make 5 available. The teams they play won't get a Pool C bid if they lose but if Worcester and Mary Hardin lose they will get Pool C bids, leaving only 3 up for grabs with 8 teams vying for them. Those 8 teams, as it stands right now, looks like they are: Buena Vista, Middlebury, Occidental,  Emerson, Cal Lutheran, William Paterson, Brockport State, and St. Lawrence.  There are a few more teams that could probably be added to the list of contenders but guys that are more knowledgeable than me seem to think that the last remaining Pool C bids will go to 3, 4, or 5, of these 8 teams. So keep your fingers crossed and root for those 2 teams I mentioned above. Good luck.
