Jdex, thanks for the news.  I'm always amazed that I can get the scoop from you here faster than I can get results from the SUNYAC website.  Great write ups.

Hope FL is good to you and that your internet connections are better than expected.   We're all better for your reports.

Ahhhhhh 2nd semmester basketball.. Who can stay stong, and who will fall off???

For how I think the SUNYAC will pan out...

1. I have to go with Cortland, with 4 players in double figures and a solid core Maggiacomo, and Ranieri esp. I would have to say down the strech that they will stand atop the SUNYAC standings.. However I don't know if they will be able to keep it up in the post season, last year fallin to OSU in Utica..

2. Oswego, yes although a minor slip at St.LU (which may hurt them down the strech) I think the Lakers will take the #2 spot in the SUNYAC.. Solid front court with Mims, Burrige, however besides Perioli in the backcourt maybe a bit lacking.. Will 40' a game take a toll on Perioli down the strech, we will see.. Hopefully they will find that 4th and 5th spark with the 4 Ruter playing limited minutes, injury?

3. Buff State, that's right BUFF STATE... Besides getting smacked by proven D1 Buffalo the bengals have been in all of their other 3 losses.. With J Williams and Gregg Jones being a solid 1-2 punch on the offensive end almost producing 40 points per game.. Playing 11 players over 10 minutes a game to me is incredible, which shows they are not affraid to use their bench.. Can they keep it together on the court??

4. Potsdam
5. Brockport, who I think will pick it up in the 2nd half
6. SUNYIT, who I think will fall off alittle 2nd half..
7. Plattsburgh
8. New Paltz
9.Oneonta
10. Fredonia
11. Geneseo

Tuesday appears to have the haves vs. have nots on top (always a dangerous situation, especially since all 'haves' are on the road): Cortland at Oneonta, UTech at New Paltz, Oswego at Fredonia

In Wednesday's Chase action, 5 seed Bport is home to 4 RIT, and 8 Geneseo meets 1 Fisher at Naz

SUNYAC lineup:
Cortland 2-0, 9-1
Oswego 2-0, 8-2
Potsdam 2-0, 6-4
SUNYIT 2-0, 4-4
Buffalo St. 2-1, 8-4
Oneonta 1-2, 6-5
Brockport 1-2, 4-5
Plattsburgh 1-2, 5-4
New Paltz 1-1, 4-6
Fredonia 0-3, 5-6
Geneseo 0-3, 2-6

Anyone see any major roster moves? Know Bport activates erstwhile CState all-star Jon Rother. Others? Plus ....minus?

bports

Still no word on harris and williams but Bport activates mychal wilkes a guard from newark. I believe he has been inserted into the starting lineup and has had double figures 2 out of 3 games.

'Sheek,' your second semester prognostication has merit. Bottom four for sure. Buff State looks to be in the upper mix. Seems to have defined top players and plenty of depth. Inside play looks rugged from several directions. Bengals in past have tendency to be quite undisciplined. Time will tell. How profound, huh?
Believe Cortland has staying power. Although plenty of points from perimeter as in the past, Dragons tougher inside because of Taggart. Can score if necessary, but content to fill a role -- screening, rebounding, defense. TSpan uses him according to matchups.
Schaller has returned to team after playing football, and has seen very limited action. Was expected to contend for starting point slot. Others have filled the bill in various capacities.

Looking at the Massey Ratings

SUNYAC

Cortland (46)
Buff St. (98)
Potsdam (145)
Oswego (149)
SUNYIT (155)
Brockport (181)
Oneonta (207)
Plattsburgh (223)
Geneseo (259)
New Paltz (265)
Fredonia (283)

Think Cortland is the clear #1 with their veteran club.  Oswego lost a lot of toughness with the departure of Ponza, Oliver, and Constance, who were all scrappers.

Will be a scramble for 2-4 with Buff St, Potsdam, Oswego, IT, B'port all in the mix.  Suspect the bottom three won't change much barring injury.

Last year, the 1-4 seeds all won their openers.  Anything can happen in Utica, as its a road game for everyone.

P.S.  Potsdam's two losses in Hawaii were to a very talented Hawaii Hilo, team now 10-3 and a 2004-05 D-II top ten team, and Embry-Riddle (16-1), which narrowly held off (77-72)a late Potsdam charge and is the #1 team in NAIA D-II.  Potsdam is young, but if they can hang in there through the SUNYAC and win a first round home game, their newcomers will all have a year's experience under their belts by the time Utica rolls around.

Potsdam mid-year add is Jehrod Hall, Jr. from No. Country Community College, athletic 6-4 swing man, who coupled with Barton will give the Bears athletic mismatches at the #3 & #4 spots.  Potsdam is very young, currently starting a freshman, two sophs and two seniors.

Sheek - thanks for your views.
Bear - thanks for the Massey ratings, generally find them more useful than others.

I haven't seen everyone yet but this year looks easier to call then several previous.

The bottom four: Fredonia, Geneseo, New Paltz, and Oneonta in no particular order. One of them will make the SUNYAC tourney so why not Oneonta.

Plattsburg, Potsdam, SUNY IT, are likely 5 - 7. Plattsburg is the most dangerous on a given night. Playing there is usually diificult but, much like last season,  you never know what you'll get from the Cards night to night. Potsdam is young, rebounds poorly, and defensively challenged. I like thebear's optimism - first round home game - but don't currently share that view. Have't seen IT yet but stats suggest a 4 or 5 finish.

Top four: (1) Cortland. Have seen them twice and like this team. Hard working, well coached, veterans. Nothing special about any one guy - but they all share they ball, work the boards, hustle on defense, and and shoot FTs. You can win on the road with those skills.
(2) Oswego. Have seen them twice. Like to watch Perioli - a tough, decisive leader. Mims is quick and a leaper. Both are great entertainment but not enough help available. (3) Buffalo State. Can score with anyone but too often fail to D-up. (4) Brockport. This is Bellucci's last hurrah, Rother will keep his nose clean.

I know it's only January, but don't see anyone getting out of the first round of the NCAA's. Prove me wrong boys, please.

Bearseh,
Like your thinking. Right on. Real interesting weekend for Cortland, at Pburgh tonight and at Pdam tomorrow. This always a difficult trip. Can't remember many times a CState sweep. Maybe 2000-01 when Dragons won 18 in a row; and maybe once before. Current win streak at 10. No real stickout wins, though seven have come on the road (including escape of depleted Bports). One of best games was only loss, season opener to current 9-3 Trinity (on 4 pt. play in closing seconds).
Having Potsdam travel to Oswego tonight may help Cortland. Seems like past matchups have always had Pdam at home the prior night.

Also tonight NPaltz at BuffSt, Oneonta at SUNYIT. Currently underway is Bport clash with Fisher goliaths. Could be quite the feather for Eagles, who should certainly be paying more attention than vs. RIT. Bports saw early 27 pt. lead vanish before recovering in OT.

Geneseo today crushed RIT 86-56 in Chase tourney at UR. Knights ahead 52-23 at half and hit 35x60fg. G. Spears 20 pts(9x13fg), 6 rebs, 5 assts; J. Kling 13 pts(6x7fg), S. Sciera 11 pts, J. Papincak 11 pts, S. Morton 6 assts. Face Naz/Keuka winner on Sat
