Very well deserved!  Great player, outstanding team, great coach.  A nice year for Plattsburgh!  Sweet 16 for hoops a National Championship for the Women's Hockey Team and 2nd place for the Men's Hockey Team... I'd say the Cards represented the SUNYAC well in the winter post season!  Until next year...

Anthony Williams from Plattsburgh State was 1 of only 2 players from Division 3 to make the All Star team at the Collegiate Basketball Invitational this past weekend. Williams averaged 18 points in the 4 games he played. He also set a CBI record with 34 points when his team won an earlier game against a team that had Andrew Olsen from Amherst and Ben Strong from Guilford. Olsen scored 6 pts. and Strong scored 21. Williams didn't start the 1st game of the tournament that he played in but came off the bench to score 7 pts with 4 assists & 2 steals. His team lost  102-90. The 2nd game from the loser's bracket had him starting and he scored 17 pts on 5 x 8 shooting,  2 x 2 3 pointers, 5 x7 FT's, with 4 rebounds 1 assists and 1 steal in 24 minutes. His team won 104-99. Troy Ruths, D-3 Player of the year had 13 pts in 29 minutes for the losing team.
Game 3 was against the Olsen-Strong team and Williams shot lights out going 12 x 14 with 4 x 5 from 3 point land. He was 6 x 6 from the foul line, had 6 rebounds 5 assists and 1 steal in 26 minutes. Olsen played 22 mins. and Strong came off the bench and led the losing team with 21 pts. in 25 minutes.
Besides Williams, the only other D-3 player to make the All Star team was James Cooper from Wooster. Cooper scored 57 pts in the 4 games he played for an average of 14.2. He averaged 25 minutes per game. Williams only averaged 22.5 minutes a game but wound up being the 2nd leading scorer in the tournament with 74 points. Only MVP 6' 10" Jeff Ferguson from Pikeville (NAIA 1) with 83 points outscored Williams and did so with considerably more playing time. Williams shot an amazing 68% from the field and 72% from beyond the arc. Strangely enough he didn't make the all CBI team. Steve Dagostino from Division 2 St. Rose was the only guard chosen.
Congratulations once again to Anthony Williams who hopefully will get noticed by the scouts that were in attendance and perhaps land some kind of Pro contract . Interesting to note that last year 18 of the 20 guys chosen for the CBI All Star game were signed to Pro contracts.

Shooting Star

What are the prospects for Potsdam, Cortland, and Geneseo for this coming season?

FutureD3playa

Will Oneonta have a good year? and what are your predictions for the seeds in the conference tourny?

Congrats to Coach Dunne on having the Interim removed from his appointment at SUNY Brockport. Watch out for the Eagles---A new Brandon Williams is in town--Hope he can live up to the name--Go Eagles--What did everyone else bring in for this hoop season? Let's start some banter--I like Bport, Plattsburgh and Geneseo for my top 3

Shooting Star

I'm pretty new to NYS.  Who are the best coaches in SUNYAC and why?

Shooting Star

Not a lot of action here?  What are the different SUNYAC schools bringing to the table this year from a coaching and player standpoint.

I'll try and give a run down of the coaches in the SUNYAC considering there hasn't been much turnover in recent years.

Greg Dunne - Was extremely successful player (Naz) and assistant at Brockport. Had a solid year last season with high expectations for a first year coach. Should be interesting this season without the horses from the last couple of years (Sherod Harris and Brandon Williams in particular). Mychal Wilkes and Cantrell Parrish will lead the Golden Eagles this season.

Kevin Broderick - Always seems to get a couple of kids people don't know about that turn out to be pretty good. Will be interesting to see how he does without Perioli (sp?). Has been to the 'ship on a couple of times but his teams never seem to rise to the occasion. Tom Downing and shoot it from everyone Kyle Rueter should be the leaders.

Tom Curle - Bounced around before finding a home at his alma mater. Has been extremely successful up in the North Country with an influx of transfers from JCs and higher levels. Loses a lot of talent from last years' squad. Life without Anthony Williams is going to difficult. Not expecting them to drop from the upper tier of the conference.

Kevin Moore - Has had a tough time getting players and getting wins. Was an excellent coach before Elmira College went to the basement of the Empire 8. Should continue to get better this year with his star Brad Cooper.

Tom Spanbauer - Had a ton of success with the help of Tom Williams and Company at the beginning of the millennium. Should be a national power with the majors, location, and "special talent" for their athletes.  He will have to find ways to get Mike Lewis the ball, he could be one of the best players in the SUNYAC.

Vince Medici - Had a successful career at HVCC before moving over the SUNYAC. Has done a great job of developing a pipeline to Albany and NYC. Plays in one of the best D3 facilities I have seen. They are still developing and will continue to get better.

Farji Ansari - Disappointing might be the right word for the lack of success Farji has had at Buff State. He can get just about anyone that can breathe into school and can't seem to make his teams mesh. Maybe his boys from Turner-Carroll could help him out. Buff State should be a powerhouse just like they were in the 90's with Dick Bihr at the helm.

Sherry Dobbs - Two NCAA appearances in his first two years was quite a start. Hasn't been much since. Has a talented yet underachieving group of seniors this season, should be a solid season for the Bears or it will be another cold winter in the North Country.

Steve Minton - Has done a fantastic job of bringing a "Princeton" style offense to the SUNYAC. Has considerable talent returning with Howe and Morton. They could make a run at the title this year.

Dagan Nelson - The coach that I have the least about of knowledge about. I've heard he has been working the recruiting trails hard. Hopefully for him, his recruiting will lead to more wins than Dougy P. had.

Brian Murphy - Haven't seen his teams play since Morrisville made the move to full fledged D3 member. His JC teams always had a bunch of talent. Has a great coaching pedigree with his father being the aforementioned Tom Murphy.

I believe that's it. Had Grimmer from SUNYIT in there but forgot they moved over to the NEAC. With practice starting, any reports from any of the campuses. Good luck this season.

I dont get to see alot of SUNY games, but everything you said was pretty much on the money.I Dunne has potential to be very good.

Found a new website called www.empiresportd.synthasite.com , on its college page there is an article about who is the best D3 coach in the Rochester area. Quite interesting site

Watch out for ONEONTA....D1 transfer from UNC-Greensboro(6'7)....and other solid athletic wings along with good shooters and solid PG.

New Paltz is going to be a sleeper this year.  I heard they have some pretty talented freshman and a couple talented transfers.
