Sikma isn't an all-time D3 great, Bear. He played for Illinois Wesleyan back when it was an NAIA school. Same with Terry Porter at UWSP.

If there was any doubt who the best player in the SUNYAC is this year (and possibly the region), I think that it was erased last night in Geneseo.  Scott Morton scored 32 pts. in 24 minutes of play and had 16 of those over the final 7 minutes with his team trailing by 6pts when he re-entered the game because of foul trouble.  The game itself, has got to be one of the best I've ever seen at the D3 level and had 3 lead changes in the final 7 seconds of regulation including a miracle no-look shot by Morton at the buzzer that won the game for Geneseo.  The shot is featured on ESPN's sportscenter as the #1 play of the night and I have posted a link for the video below.  Great battle between to very well-coached programs and 2 great players in Morton and Tommy Downing.  If Geneseo can develop some consistent scoring from others besides Morton and Howe this could be a special year for them.

with age came?

I concur that was an amazing clip!!   Thanks for the link.  SUNYAC has some entertaining teams this year with surprises in both directions (Cortland    Fredonia   Oneonta)   Should be a very interesting year with out a real monster like Plattsburgh was last year.

Anyone have any theories onto why Cortland is off to such a poor start?

Keep New Paltz on the radar this weekend.  They are young but talented, which can always lead to surprises...

The key to this puzzle is the emergence of a point guard to bring the ball up against pressure, and to provide solid, annoying on ball defense.  The other four spots are solid, Lewis & Oliver are a formidable inside presence, Coston is an athletic marvel, and Niehoff is a great shooter, and solid all-around player.

They need someone to emerge who can play in your face defense on tough point & combo guards, and run Cortland's complicated sets, a la princeton.

Actually, you needn't have linked to another site to show Morton's shot. The entire ESPN interview with Morton, which featured several renditions of the final seven seconds of the game, was linked from the front page of d3hoops.com. The link's still there, in fact, at the bottom of the page. And I'm pretty sure that this site actually had the interview linked before anyone else did.

Moral of the story? Anything you want to see or know about D3 basketball is available right here on this site!

Amazing shot and finish to that game, by the way.

There is some talk that Span cut the point guard that could do that.  I am sure he thinks that Coston can translate his athletic talents into the Defensive pressure as he is playing him at the 1.
