Potsdam trails the entire game and finally grabs the lead at 58-56 with 3:16 to play. Extend lead to 60-56 with 2:47 left and close out the Cards at the free throw line. Plattsburgh was ahead at the half 39-31 and maintained that lead through much of the 2nd period and was still up 54-46 with less than 9 mins. to play. Bears then go on 15-2 run over the next 7 minutes to gain their largest lead at 61-56, before 64-60 final. Free throws once again proved to be the difference, just as they were 10 days ago when the Bears won 80-75. Tonight Potsdam was 18x30 from the line while the Cardinals were only 8x16. Bears shot 20x55 fgs, while Cards were 24x53.  Potsdam was led by Damon Brown with 22 pts including 4 3's and Brandon Siskavich with 13 pts and 11 rebounds. Alvin Dike chipped in with 11 pts and was 7x8 from the free throw line. Cardinals Chris Ruiz led all scorers with 24 points on 10x16 shooting with 2 3's. Danny Tangney was only other Cardinal in double figures with 10 pts.

The most telling stat to me was Plattsburgh scores 39 in the first half, 21 in the second.  Been a long time since the Bears held anyone to 21 points in a half.  Plattsburgh went deadly cold from outside 0-6 in second half, and 5-12 from the FT line

Fouls were Cards 25, Bears 15, but I made a comment to a ref friend that I sit with, that it seemed "They were letting them play"  Bodies were flying everywhere.  Daniyan and Thomas had 9 fouls at the PF position playing 39 minutes between them, but they both had trouble with Sikavich's size, and Dike's strength on the O Boards, several over the backs and hacks on O rebounds.

Chris Ruiz is silky smooth, already one of the elite players in the SUNYAC, and a potential D-III All American if he continues to improve (scary thought).

Cards were handed a interesting schedule  typical of the SUNYAC.  Men's & Women's teams, leaving Potsdam at 11 PM have to drive to Syracuse, eta 1:45 AM, stay overnite, and play at Cortland with 4PM start for the women, and 6 PM for the men, then a lovely 300+ mile bus trip back to Cortland, touring most of Central & Northern, NY.

No one in the Empire 8 has to put up with this kind of travel.

I was at the oneonta-new paltz game.  I couldnt believe that oneonta was the first place team in the conference.  They dont play very hard.  Grimes is he only one that plays with energy.  I dont think they are overly talented.  But they win so what can you say.  I would be surprised if they win the conference though.  New Paltz just doesnt have the depth.  The starting five are solid but they just dont have enough anymore losing the two top scorers and one of the top bench players.  I think oswego wil take the conference but it is up for grabs.  YOu cant count anybody out.

As we mentioned ....Oneonta minus B. Beckford for NP for whatever reason. A double-double performer

It's been a long, hard season for my beloved Eagles--They have to catch fire these final 5 games and sneak into the SUNYAC playoffs!!! Anything can happen if they can just get over the top. Kays, Wilkes,Mack, Harris and the boys need to bring it all together and finish strong. I have confidence in them. They are hardworkers and they will be there at the end. Go Eagles!!!
