SIDs and coaches:      How about some 09-10 SUNYAC rosters, please - make the wait fun for the fans.  Thanks!

FreddyState

wow The SUNYAC is really up for grabs this year.  Only 2 non-seniors on last years 1st and 2nd teams.  Anybody have any predictions?  Plattsburgh def has the best player in Ruiz but that doesn't really mean wins.  Geneseo, Cortland, and Oneonta should all be in the mix just because they come to play every night and have good discipline.  Fredonia has four startes back and a big that sat out last year.  Buff St. will be athletic and prolly have the most actual talent in the league but again that doesnt always mean wins.  Oswego has a good big in Burridge but they lost two first teamers and a crap ton of points in Reuter and Downey.  The defending champs, Brockport, loose like 6 or 7 seniors.  It seems like Potsdam is still rebuilding and lost their best player.  Who knows who will be eligible and for how long at New Paltz.  Anybody have any more insight?  Disagree?

Word from Norfolk VA. New Paltz went down to play an exhibition game against D1 Norfolk State Saturday Nov 7 and were in the lead for most of the game. With about 5 minutes left in the game Norfolk took the lead and wound up winning 101-89.

Thunder

Potsdam 71   Algonquin College  74

Great Game start to finish. Potsdam is an undersized team that plays tough d and goes to the Boards strong. First win for Algonquin against Potsdam in 13 years. As we say in Canada "Sun has to shine on a dogs a** once in a while."
Last win was against Bill Mitchell's Potsdam team 47-45. Next win should be in 2023. :)

True good argument for Buff state and Buff st coach but Fredonia beat you guys TWICE and by 20 the second time hard to argue with that and hard to justify voting for Ansari over Moore.

If the "Coach of the year" goes to whomever wins the most games between Buffalo State and Fredonia..then yes Moore is a the guy. With that logic then yes it's "hard to justify voting for Ansari over Moore". Heck if the only criteria is how a coach/team did against Fredonia then the Brockport Coach should have been "Coach of the year" because Brockport beat Fredonia 3 times   this past season by 5, 19 and 20 points. Fortunatly for Moore, that's not the standard ( head to head vs Brockport) by which the SUNYAC  judges "Coach of the year candidates". Fredonia vs. Buffalo State should not be anymore of a standard for Coach of the Year than Brockport vs Fredonia!
Fortunatly  ???   the "Coach of the year"  (from what I have been told) goes to the coach who had a great regular season and/or turned around a program in that season. Clearly Buffalo State went  from worse (out of the playoffs - 08) to first (tied for first in the SUNYAC at the end of the regular season-09). I too agree that Ansari should have been the guy.

Having said that, coupled with the fact that the 09-10 season is upon us, I too am excited about what the SUNYAC looks like this year! It should be 1 of the most competitive conferences in D-3 basketball!

4.  Geneseo - Simpson, Hoy, Stevens and Blair
5. Plattsburgh - Ruiz, Daniyan, Tangney and Ponesse
6. Buffalo St. - Carr and Samedi
7. New Paltz - Taylor, Anderson, Wichard and Agyemang
8. Oswego - Burridge, Francois, and Monahgan

10. Potsdam - Williams, Cross and Kelso

These are my predictions for the 2009-2010 season!!! I can't wait!!! Please let me know what you think put some votes in or put your own predictions in.  These are just based on returning players because thats all we can go on now, no one knows what JUCOs or Freshman are gonna have an impact.  I think Plattsburgh, Buff. St. and New Paltz are all wild cards this year and interchangeable.  We will just have to see I guess!!!

I also have a player to watch this year - James Kane (Fredonia State).  This kid is a good big man with a never ending motor who sat out last year and could have a solid impact on 2009-2010 season.  Avg. 5.7 pts. and 4 reb. in only 14 minutes in 2007-08. (Sitting out first game at Elmira but will be back after that).

Let me know if there are any other players to watch this year..

FreddyState

Oh and Bengalsrule I think you missunderstood my post I was saying if it came down to Ansari or Moore you have to go Moore because of head to head.  I was'nt saying that you go with the most wins over a team or best record.  I def. agree with the coach of the year should have a good turn around but if the other team with a good turn around beat you twice then you have to give it to that guy.  And I am guessing that is why the coaches voted Moore or maybe they just respect him and his players more IDK the coaches vote so you are just going to ask them but thats my final comment on coach of the year.  Check out my preseason predictions see what you think.  Give me some feedback.

bearnation

I have hard time believing that Potsdam is the worst team in the SUNYAC!  Bear do you have any insight?  New Paltz will be a team to challenge for the top if they can stay eligible.  I guess this is the year that Fredonia becomes a D3 power house.  I think will should play the games and see what happens.

bmull

Always hard to tell with frosh but Potsdam's Pierce and Lambert both had good NYC public school PSAL careers

FreddyState

I am not saying Fredonia is going to be a D3 powerhouse I am just saying they should have a pretty good year this year (its just a preseason poll) and you are right we will just have to see what happens.  I am just excited  ;).  What are your guys predictions??

Plattsburgh State opened their season today with a 103-81 win against Lyndon State. Plattsburgh came out firing and opened up a 22-5 lead 5 minutes into the game. They extended it to 34-12 at the 10:30 mark and went into the break up 52-35. Coach Curle substituted often with 11 different players seeing action in the 1st half. Lyndon State tried to make a comeback during the 1st part of the 2nd period and closed the gap to 12 pts, but the Cardinals led by junior college transfer Steve Thomas, Errol Daniyan, and Chris Ruiz extended the lead back up to 20 and coasted to the victory. Thomas, Daniyan, Ruiz, Carl Munnerlyn, (another Juco transfer), Josh Bruno, and Dan Tangney all scored in double figures to pace the Cardinal attack. Plattsburgh next takes on the Elms College Blazers on Wednesday Nov. 18th at Elms, and then comes home for the Cardinal Classic on Sat. and Sun. Nov. 21st and 22nd. Husson University takes on RIT in the 1st game at 6:00 followed by Plattsburgh St. against Norwich at 8:00. The losers meet in the consolation game at 1 PM on Sun. followed by the Championship game at 3PM.

Have to agree with Bear Nation. I'm not exactly disagreeing with Freddy State's prediction; I have no clue where teams will wind up at the end of the season. But Potsdam men's basketball finishing last, in my mind, would be a sign of the impending Apocalypse. I might have to start wearing a sandwich board saying THE END IS NIGH!

Out of curiosity, has Potsdam EVER finished the season with the worst record in the SUNYAC? I have a feeling it might be a first, or at least the first time in the ~30 years since I was a student. If they should happen to finish in the cellar this season this Potsdam alum will be very, very sad.

Hope to catch the Bears when they visit the Rochester area in January (weather permitting). Good luck to all the teams.
