Potsdam opens up a 45-40 lead over Utica as the Bears go on a 14-3 run with 10:47 left to play.

Utica comes back to regain the lead at 49-48 and after a brief back and forth goes on top for good at 53-51. Pioneers stretch advantage back up to 7 at 59-52 but Bears make final run to get it down to 2 pts at 61-59 with 45 seconds to go. Utica misses with 11 ticks left but Pioneers grab the rebound and Bears are forced to foul with 7 seconds remaining. Will Abrams hits 1 of 2 and Potsdam comes down and misses a 3 pt attempt to send it into overtime, and lose 62-59. Ben Walker, Eddie Cross and Brad Drysdale all had 10 points each for Potsdam. Curtis Pierce added 9 pts and 13 rebounds. Will Abrams and James Patterson led the Pioneers with 16 points each. Kevin Johnson also hit double figures with 10.

Plattsburgh State finally got untracked with 15 minutes left to play and Chris Ruiz had 23 of his game high 29 points in the 2nd half to lead the Cardinals over the stubborn Hornets of Lyndon State, 100-81. The Vermont team held a 40-39 halftime lead and were still up 50-49 with 15:31 left in the game but the combination of Ruiz, Errol Daniyan with 24 pts, and Steve Thomas with 17 lifted Plattsburgh to their season opening win. Josh Bruno with 11 and R. J. Ponesse with 10 were also in double figures for the Cards. Both Ruiz and Daniyan had double-doubles as Ruiz also led the Cardinals with 11 rebounds and Daniyan added 10 boards.

Plattsburgh will now face an early season test as they travel to Purchase N.Y. for the Manhattenville Castle Classic Tournament to take on the Western Connecticut Colonials in a 1st round game on Friday Nov. 19th at 6 PM. The Colonials opened up their season tonight as well with a solid 98-67 victory over SUNY-Cobleskill. The Colonials are picked by many to win the Little East Conference this year and did receive some support in the ORV category of D3hoops preseason Top 25 poll. The winner of the Plattsburgh St./Western Conn. game will take on the winner of the Manhattenville/Wheelock game on Saturday at 5 PM. My guess is that will be Manhattenville.

Bengalsrule,
Think you misread jdex's post. Jesse Winter, Jeff LaMont, and Jeremy Smith are all playing for Cortland this year. Losing probable starters Ron Evans and Brian Manning, along with 6'7" Chris Milke will definitely hurt the Red Dragons chances though.

OOPS :-[  Probably wishful thinking on my part. Thanks Magic!

Something tells me that Spanbauer will work those big frosh into the rotation rather quickly though. He certainly brought a bunch of them in this year.

jdex,
Notice Spanbauer didn't waste any time getting those big frosh recruits into the rotation.
61 freshman minutes. Have to be happy with that and the win. Competition will be getting tougher though. Still a nice start to McMahon's Cortland career. He also had 4 blocks, 2 steals, 1 personal foul and zero turnovers in his 31 minutes. Well done young man.

SUNYAC vs. Empire 8 Challenge anyone?! At least 12 contests between the 2 conferences, over the next 2 weeks (not including potentially a half dozen more in the WENDY's Classic once those pairings are announced).

Right now my tally has it a 1-1  with Potsdam losing to Utica and Cortland crushing Elmira.
This Friday Oneonta takes on Nazarath followed by Oneonta v Elmira on 11/22, Brockport v St. John Fisher on 11/23, Oswego v Ithaca-11/28, Cortland v Ithaca and Fredonia v Elmira-11/30, BUFFALO STATE v Nazarath, Oneonta v Hartwick and Oswego v RIT on-12/7 ( a mini-"SUNYAC E8 challenge" Tuesday) and finishing with Oneonta v Ithaca on 12/11.

  I predict a 8-4 record for SUNYAC over E8!

Geneseo St. opens with a 69-63 win over visiting Medaille. Mavericks open up 10 pt lead on R. Reed 3 with 5:38 left iin 1st half. Blue Knights cut it to 34-27 on a Matt Curry jumper at the buzzer. Medaille hits the 1st bucket of the 2nd period to extend their lead to 9 but Geneseo goes on a 17-0 run over the next 6 minutes to grab a 44-36 advantage that they never relinquished. Extend lead to 12, at 53-41 and after the Mavericks cut it back to 5 the Blue Knights once again open a double digit lead and coast to the victory. Blue Knights hit their final 16 free throws as they ended up going 25x28 from the line. Ryan Riefenhauser has a double-double of 14 pts (5x9 fg 4x4 ft) and 13 rebounds in 25 minutes. Mike Hoy also had 14 pts. (5x14 fg 0x3 3's 4x4 ft) in 31 mins.

Barn Burner at New Paltz as the Hawks give up a 17 point lead over visiting Mt. St. Mary's only to have Harris Wichard hit a 3 pointer with 2 seconds left to play to give the Hawks a 91-88 season opening win. Wichard and Shareef Taylor both scored 20 pts to lead the Hawks. Matt Devine added 17 points fo New Paltz. The Hawks will be in action this weekend as they travel to Clinton NY to participate in the Hamilton Tip-Off Tournament. They take on Lehman College at 6 PM on Friday evening. The winner of that game will face the winner of Hamilton/ Pitt-Bradford on Sat at 4 PM.

My beloved Eagles open up in the Oswego Tournament this Friday--They finally have some size!! This could make them very dangerous if they still can get all the pressure on their opponents. Coach Dunn and his staff will have the boys ready to go!!!

Plattsburgh State plays a careless 1st half but still manages to lead Western Connecticut State 33-29 at the break. Cardinals have 17 turnovers but fortunately the Colonials also had 17 turnovers. Plattsburgh's big gun Chris Ruiz who scored 29 pts in Monday's season opener goes 1x7 from the field and has 4 pts, while Western Ct.'s leading scorer Daquan Brooks who has scored 35 and 27 in his 1st 2 games went 0x6 from the field and scored 2 pts from the line. Card's Steve Thomas is only 1x7 from the floor but manages 6x8 from the line to lead Plattsburgh. R.J. Ponesse is a perfect 3x3 from the field and 1x1 from the line to total 7 pts. Errol Daniyan is 3x3 for 6 pts but also has 3 fouls and only played 11 minutes in the 1st half. Cards need to get it together or they'll be playing in the consi at 3 tomorrow instead of the championship at 5.

Plattsburgh State falls to Western Connecticut State 86-80 I think. Live stats was about as bad as it could be. Had wrong players making baskets which they would change 10 to 15 minutes later. Had players fouling out that would then show up several minutes later making a basket. Had the wrong halftime score. Gave 1 player a 3 pointer and then took it away. Showed fouls being committed when teams were in the double bonus, yet no one goes to the line. Will try and post some stats but hope they aren't screwed up. For all I know Plattsburgh St.  might have won ;D :D

Brockport goes down 67-61 to Keystone, Pa. Eagles trail 37-31 to Giants' 65% opening half fg shooting. Keystone by as many as 12 in second half. Ports within one at 0:41 but don't score again. Eagles 27x33 free throws to stay in the game. Go 15x50 from the field, 4x17 3s. G. Williams 18 pts, 4 stls in 25'. J. Ivy 12 pts, 5pf; K. Green 11 pts, 6 rebs; K. Are 7 rebs; D. Klein 5pf in team-high 31'
