Cortland defeats Geneseo 68-58 and gets their 7th conference win. They are now in 7th place with a possibility of moving into 6th place after tomorrow's results. Cortland also helped out the Potsdam Bears as Geneseo can only get to 6 wins by beating conference leader Oswego tomorrow afternoon. I think the Bears just made the playoffs even if they lose out.

Plattsburgh  and Buffalo State going down to the wire. Tied at 69 with 1:08 to go. Steve Thomas misses 2 free throws, Bengals Glenroy Carr misses a jumper with 31 ticks left. Plattsburgh with the ball takes a timeout. Cards Thomas fouled by Cartwright and goes to the line with 6 seconds left. He misses the 1st, and misses the second and the teams head to overtime.

Potsdam claims a playoff spot as they beat Fredonia 46-43. Go Bears. The Bears were down by 13 with 6:51 to go with the score 41-28. They ended the game with a 18-2 run to pull it out. Buffalo State wins one at the buzzer to avenge last year's loss up in Plattsburgh when the Cards won at the buzzer. Bengals now have locked up the 2nd seed in the tournament and unless Potsdam can beat the Bengals tomorrow or Cortland can beat Brockport will end up facing Cortland in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.
Bengals were led tonight by Chris Cartwright with 23 points and Justin Mitchell with 21 points and the all important final bucket that was the game winner. Mitchell also had a double-double as he grabbed 13 rebounds to lead in that category. Glenroy Carr had 16 points and Jake Simmons added 15.

Plattsburgh had several opportunities to win this game in regulation and failed to do so. And how they allowed that basket in the final 6 seconds to result in a layup is something I'm waiting for my Buffalo guy to report on. Free throw shooting has cost us some games already this year but I think this one is probably the best example of that. 13 for 30 from the line is pitiful and when one of our best free throw shooters goes 6x13 that really hurts. He's usually money when he's on the line. Cards were led by Errol Daniyan as the big guy poured in 26 points to grab game honors. He also had a double-double as he snatched 12 rebounds. Carl Munnerlyn had 16 points, Chris Ruiz scored 15 points and Steve Thomas added 11. Plattsburgh won the rebounding battle 49-43 and had less turnovers than the Bengals with 12 to their 16.

Cardinals will clinch the 3rd seed tomorrow with a win or a Brockport loss. I'm guessing both the Cards and the Golden Eagles win.

I'm guessing the quarterfinals will look like this on Tuesday:

#8 Potsdam @ #1 Oswego

#7 Cortland @ # 2 Buffalo St.

#6 New Paltz @ #3 Plattsburgh

#5 Oneonta  @ #4 Brockport

A Cortland or Potsdam win tomorrow would change things and so would a Plattsburgh loss with a Brockport win.

"Buffalo guy Report" -ing. How they allowed that basket in the final 6 seconds???  In 3 words...Outran the opponent. Thats how Justin Mitchell got to the basket. Missed free throw by Thomas, N. Simmons rebounds takes 2-3 dribbles, passes to Mitchell, who runs past Ruiz and over Daniyan for the soft 1 off the glass. Ruiz launchs 1 from inside halfcourt and for a brief moment, memories of 09-10 at Plattsburgh dash through everyones memory. In fact....Magicman.. as the ball traveled from Ruiz towards the basket.. It was so quiet you could have heard a Mosquito sneeze. The ball actually hit backboard and then rim...you know the rest.

BENGALS dressed only 11 players and finished the game with 9!

Great win, Gutsy performance, especially by Mitchell who got an elbow in the mouth from Poneesse and lost a tooth. Got a football mouthpiece from the trainer (who cut off the facemask strap courtside) and then helps finish Cards off!

Potsdam in 14 hours and 28 minutes. (who I predict we will see again next Tuesday).

GO BENGALS ;)
