Bear,
I could live with most of those picks. Definitely Chad Burridge for MVP and Coach Stockwell for COY. I wouldn't give the Rookie of the Year to a junior though. I like my rookies to be freshmen. ;D I'd probably go with Kevin McMahon who averaged more points(207, 10.4 ppg) and had more rebounds(123, 6.2 rpg) than any other freshman. Jon Ivy for Brockport and the Efese kid from the Bears were right behind. I'd have to put Chris Ruiz on the 1st team, and drop Winter to the 2nd team though.

Depends on Definition of ROY, last three years, has been a frosh, but before that many examples of junior transfers winning the honor

I tried to keep to actual positions (C, PF, SF, SG, PG), That's why Winter (PG with best stats) is 1st team, and Ruiz, second, since Mitchell (6'4") is really a SF.  Thought the Cards underachieved with all their returning talent.  Couldn't see two 1st team selections for a 3rd place team, particularly with their supporting cast.

Sorry to see Lakers lose, will probably mean Rochester hosts the pod, and Lakers because of Central location could get sent to a really tough first round opponent like Middlebury or Ramapo.

I think Buff State has too much talent for Brockport, but the way the Eagles shot the three at Laker Hall, Bengals had best bring their A game and get out on the shooters.  Carr/Mitchell vs. Green should be a great battle in the paint.

Holy c**p Batman, what was in the water tonight?  Losing in conference semis usually means either an unexpected road trip or a really tough first round opponent.  Agree that Lakers will get a C, but no one else in the east is a lock, especially with all the upsets in surrounding states (e.g. W. Ct - ranked, and getting blown out - Danbury isn't far from anywhere in NY).

Bear,
Puzzled by your statement that you couldn't see two first team selections for a third place team. You had no Cards on the 1st team. Ruiz just took over many games and I thought he should be there.

Definitely agree the Cards should have been better. Hated to see Oswego lose especially after I lobbied so hard for them on other boards and in the Posters Poll. And the longest winning streak in the country is no longer a SUNYAC team. But I did want 2 SUNYAC schools to go to the Dance. Better than 2 E8 schools. ;D :D 8-)

If the Lakers do get sent somewhere I hope it's Ramapo, but since they also got upset in their tournament I'd be surprised if they host. Wouldn't be surprised to see Oswego host. They still have the best record in the East don't they?

I'm also thinking the Bengals win it. Something like 84-78.

Bear,
This is a copy of a post I put on the Pool C board.

Five games in the East Region with Pool C ramifications.

1. The top rated team in the East region, Oswego State, got upset by Brockport State 74-70 in a game that just finished. Oswego will take a Pool C bid from some hopeful team as they were projected to get a Pool A.

2. The 2nd ranked team in the East region, Ithaca, was upset by St. John Fisher. If the East region gets 2 Pool C bids they will get the 2nd one. All others need not apply because there will not be a 3rd at large bid coming out of the East. There may not even be a 2nd.

3. The #1 seed in the Liberty League Hobart ( 5th ranked team in the East Region) was upset by the #4 seed Hamilton.

4. The #2 seed in the Empire 8 Stevens Tech (4th ranked team in the East region) was beaten by the #3 Seed
Hartwick 76-73

5. The co-champs of the Liberty League RPI was beaten by the #3 seed Skidmore 76-69.

Buffalo State will face Brockport State for the Pool A bid in the SUNYAC

St John Fisher will face Hartwick for the Pool A bid in the Empire 8

Skidmore will face Hamilton for the Pool A bid in the Liberty League

Hey Bear,
I figure you already know this but just in case you didn't. Marc Brown, the Sienna star when Mike Deane was the coach there is now coaching at New Jersey City and his team just won the New Jersey AC automatic bid. They started out slowly losing 6 of their first 9 games and 8 of 15. But those 8 losses  were by a total of 25 points. They finished the year winning 12 of their last 13. They ended up 19-9.

Sorry magic...My bad.. Daniyan gets edged out by Hahn for 1st team.  Hahn averaged a double double, which doesn't happen often in these parts. Just thought, and stats showed, that Ruiz disappeared in too many Cardinal losses.

You always had to game plan for Daniyan, but Ruiz had good nights followed by not so good nights.. expect more of a senior.  I'll send you my comprehensive stat analysis on Monday and you can see for yourself.

Mitchell beat 'burgh twice in last week, so clearly Ruiz has to take a back seat to him, same size, and Mitchell is a force all over the court.  Ruiz seems to take a lot of plays off on defense.  Mitchell competes every moment.

I think Bengals win it if they get out on the shooters, and Green doesn't explode from only being guarded by one guy.
If 'port hits the threes like tonight, they could be a 4 seed champion.

Mark my words, NJCU will be a force to be reckoned with in D-III for the foreseeable future.  They have a charismatic coach, and are located in a basketball hotbed.  Just the table scraps from that area could dominate D-III.  Marc Brown is a quality person, and a great basketball mind, with two outstanding mentors in his dad and Mike Deane.  He will do well, the next Bo Ryan in the making.

I like your prediction Magicman... ;)
Exhausting day..thurway closed at exit 42...back roads to Oswego.... a normal 2 and a half hour ride took nearly 4 and a half hours. Gotta get ready for Brockport. ;)

with age came?

Man what a day of upsets.  Magic gets wish 1 (2 teams from the SUNYAC to the dance).  Magic gets disappointed (neither of them are Plattsburgh). Have to give the edge to "hot" Bengals but Brockport has proved they can play with the "big boys".  Should be a great game.  Guess I am getting old but for a variety of reasons I elected not to brave the storm and travel to the game.  Since I would have been rooting for my "new old coach" and for the Lakers I guess I have to hope that they either host or get sent to "a pod" in Rochester which may even be better for me.  I certainly think that they go to the dance.  How often do kids "read their press clippings" and just not play their best afterwards?  Hopefully both SUNYAC teams can do a little "damage in the dance!" I certainly think given the right circumstances the talent is there!

I have been following my beloved Eagles silently down here in Florida--Congrats to Coach Dunne and the Eagles!! Make us proud and get back to the Dance. Tough road through the Bengals as the matchups are not in the Eagles favor. Good Luck, Eagles!!!

Sloppy first half being played at Oswego between Brockport and Buffalo State. Bengals were up 23-19 but Brockport's Derek Klein banks one in from long distance at the buzzer to make it 23-22 Bengals at the half.

Buffalo State's Chris Cartwright is injured with 8 minutes left in the half and hasn't returned. That could be a huge problem for the Bengals. Hopefully he can make it back into the game.

Justin Mitchell leads the Bengals with 10 pts, and Norman Simmons with 5. Klein with 6 and Gerald Williams with 5 top the Eagles.

Bear,
Rochester women are ranked #1 in the East. They closed out their season today with a win over Emory 81-72 to finish at 20-5. This year the women have priority for the first round of the playoffs so it's possible the Rochester men won't be hosting. Oswego still with a chance to host a pod.

Just noticed that the Rochester men got beat today by Emory 83-72. That won't help their hosting hopes either.

Buffalo State ahead of Brockport, 48-38 with 7 minutes to go.

magicman

Bengals now ahead 54-40 with under 4 minutes to play.

Buffalo State claims the SUNYAC Championship as they defeat Brockport 67-50

Bengals up 23-22 at the half, fall behind early in the 2nd period as Brockport outscores them 6-1 to open the period. Down 28-24 the Bengals go on an 8-0 run that gives them a lead they never lose. Bengals were bolstered by the fact that Chris Cartwright was back on the floor after sitting out the last half of the 1st period with an injury.  Bengals were up 44-38 when Glenroy Carr and Cartwright alternate buckets, the last one being a long range jumper by Cartwright which increased the lead to 53-38 with 4:32 left and basically ended any Brockport State hopes.

Bengals once again got balanced scoring from their starters as all 5 players were in double figures. Both Carr and Justin Mitchell had double-doubles and Cartwright, scorless in the 1st half ended up with 12 points. Carr had 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Mitchell had 12 points and 12 rebounds. Jake Simmons had 11 points and 5 rebounds. Norman Simmons and 10 points and 5 rebounds.

Brockport was led by Jon Ivy who was the game's high scorer with 16 points. Gerald Williams was the only other Brockport player in double figures with 11. Brockport's big guy Kaheem Green led his team with 11 rebounds but only managed 6 points on 3 for 11 shooting. Big factor in today's game was Brockport's poor shooting from both the field 17x55 and long range 5x20. They needed to have a repeat of yesterday's game against Oswego to stay with the taller Bengals. They didn't help themselves with 16 turnovers, many times in crucial situations. They made a number of bad passes where they just threw the ball too high or far and it sailed out of bounds usually right after a Bengal basket, where it was important to come down and answer that score. Bengals won the rebounding battle 42-33 and they committed 13 turnovers.

Bengals now await Monday's selection to see where they might be sent.

Hopefully Oswego and Buffalo get the YAC a few more wins in the postseason. Good luck to both teams.
