Just got word that 81 south is closed, what happens if the Potsdam/Oneonta game is not played? ???

thebear

I understand, from the college's web site, that the game for tonight has been ppd due to weather.  (No safe way to travel through 200 + miles of mountain roads that lay between here and Oneonta.)

The web site also tells me the game has been rescheduled for Sunday, women play at 1PM, men at 3PM.

Because of the log jam at the 2,3,4,5,6 seeds, the men's game has playoff implications over just about every scenario imaginable.  The women's game has playoff implications as the Oneonta women need the win to secure a home playoff game.

Typical SUNYAC down to the wire finish, ppd 1 day.

Geneseo has size, and plenty of it.  They are the one team that has the horses to keep a big body on Taggart.  Spears, Howe, & Sciera are all big fellas, who are custom built for a deliberate half court game.

If McDonnell is shooting well, and Kitson is the conference ROY we saw last year, this can be a dangerous team.  Kling is a talented first year from a storied HS program, and by this time in the year, is really a veteran.  Morton is another freshman with talent.  Geneseo desn't match up well with an athletic team with race-horse talent, but they can field a nice team.

Hopefully Cortland will still get to host a first round NCAA game with three losses, but the committee has done sillier things in the past.

Geneseo 76 Cortland 70

SUNYIT 87 Fredonia 68 - IT comes back from a 9pt. halftime deficit to outscore Devils 51-23 (ouch!) in the second half.  T.Anderson (Fredonia) 31pt effort wasted in the loss.

Plattsburgh NP game delayed to 9:30 due to a highway closure en route.

bearnation

Just got back from Oneonta.  Left early to visit Baseball Hall of Fame with my son.  If you haven't been since the remodel, go it is great. Very disappointed about game being cancelled,  bottom line the school made correct call. Safety first.

Just did quick look at Cortland/Geneseo  Box score:  I wasn't there just going by numbers.  Taggart 10 points in 23 minutes, Skrelia 4/28, Ranieri 14/36 and finally Maggiacome 20/23.  When I made the post about Cortland not being a perimeter team, What I was saying was that their offensive is not designed to use perimeter shooting as the first option.  They look to score in the paint first.  This didn't happen tonight and they lost.  Yes, Maggiacome can shoot and yes he did shoot and because they had to shoot from behind the arc they lost.

Geneseo is legit. They played Fisher very tough in the Chase for the first 25 minutes before going ice cold. That'd be an interesting matchup if those two had to meet again in the 1st round of SUNYAC's. What does this loss do for Cortland's at-large chances if they don't win the conference tourney?

I tip my hat to Plattsburgh.  I'm not sure why game was delayed until 9:30PM (most likely great amounts of snow in the Adirondacks) against New Paltz.  As a team they shot 67.2%, 13 players scored, 4 had double digits another had 9.  Team was lead by Gribbs-Smith with 22.  Geat job.  Whatever they did to get ready for this game should become their standard because it worked.

We are down to the final days of the regular season and the outcome of who is playing where is still in question.  Except for the first seed, the rest are up for grabs.  This is what makes the SUNYAC a premier league.  Balance and excitement.  They may not get their due respect from the outside but they play very exciting basketball.

Plattsburgh game was delayed because the Northway was closed north of Glens Falls due to a bad accident.  At one time yesterday, all four major North South routes out of Northern NY were closed due to accidents/downed trees and power lines.  We had sustained 40-50 mile winds, and gusts up to hurricane force.  Very little snow, but the central Adirondacks got pounded.

Props to Curle & Co, often untoward delays can mess with visitor's psyche.

Just visited the local clutch of chickens and as far as I can tell this is the scoop on today's SUNYAC lineup.

Afternoon game

SUNYIT (9-6) at Buffalo State (7-8)

SUNYIT still has a chance at the four seed, but needs help.  Must win for the Wildcats.  If the Bengals lose, they drop to the 8 seed and have to play at Cortland.  I'm sure they would rather win, stay as a 7 seed, and not draw Cortland in the first round.  Teams pretty evenly matched, very athletic, not much defense will be played, but should be fun to watch.  Last game for Buff State's Greg Jones, Jobany Tirado, and Lester McNair.  Senior night cames can have unexpected outcomes.

Early Evening game:

Plattsburgh (8-7) @ Oneonta (2-12)

Tip moved to 6:00 due to Plattsburgh's late start last night.
Plattsburgh must win to stay at 7 losses.  If IT loses to Buff State, and Plattsburgh wins this, Cards own the tiebreaker and will have the 5 seed.

Oneonta playing for pride, coming off pounding at Oswego.  Cards have too much size and athleticism for undersized Dragons, who have been decimated by injuries to post players.

Late Game

Oswego(11-4) at Brockport (10-5)

The main event.  Probably the single most significant game played in the conference this year.  (Cortland's lead was too big when Oswego beat them)

Oswego win gives them the 2 seed and Brockport drops.  How far, 3,4,5 depends on the outcome of the SUNYIT and Potsdam games.

Yes an Eagle loss and Potsdam/SUNYIT wins, and the Eagles are on the road. (IT Holds tiebreaker with win over Oswego).  Eagles in a must-win for a home game.

Brockport win ties them with Oswego, (and Potsdam if they win at Oneonta).  While Oswego wins head to head tie-breaker with Brockport because of Oswego win over Cortland, Brockport wins a three-way tie breaker due to higher win % among the three teams.

Senior night for Brockport star Ben Bellucci, playing against HS teammate Ahmad Mims, also 'port seniors Kenny Amparo and Jerry Cheves.

Call this one the battle of the snowbelt.  Drive from Oswego to Brockport in winter one of the scariest in the world.

Tomorrow 3PM

Potsdam (10-5) at Oneonta.(2-12 + Saturday's game)

Options will become very clear once Saturday's games are played.  Potsdam still has a shot at a 3 seed.
