Cortland nipped by Widener 76-74 in Widener title tourney go

Cardinals had trouble putting the ball into the hoop today as they only shot 22x62 from the field.(35.5%) Three point attempts were even worse only hitting 5 of 28 attempts (17.9%). Free throws were 18 of 30. (60%).  Cards maintained a 5 pt lead through the early going in the 2nd half but up 46-41 the Bears had a 9-2 spurt to grab a 50-48 lead. It only got worse from there as Ursinus entended their run and went up by 16, 70-54. Twice Cards would get it to single digits but Ursinus always had an answer

Plattsburgh was led by John Perez who had his first career double-double with 17 pts (5-11 fg, 0x1 3's, 7x8 ft) and 11 rebounds 5 (off). No other Cardinal was in double figures. Team only managed 5 assists in the game, a far cry from their past 2 games. Perhaps too many players looking to shoot instead of making the extra pass today. 28 three point attempts, almost half their shots, seems a little out of whack. Only 5 turnovers and 7 steals. Usually with stats like that you wind up on the long end of the score. 11 players broke into the scoring column and 10 of them played double digit minutes.

Ursinus was led by their all american Jon Ward with 23 pts (8x9 fg, 7x9 ft). 2 other Bear players had 13 each. Bears had a big edge in boards 44-33 and had 12 turnovers.

Expected Plattsburgh to win this game but think it will be a recurring situation throughout the season. Another tough game coming up as St. Lawrence will invade Memorial Hall on Tuesday the 29th for the Cards home opener. Nine days of practice for the Cards to get ready for this one. Imagine Coach Curle will not make them easy practices either.

Ouch, lots of bad news today. Maybe Oneonta and Oswego can salvage some YAC pride. Think the Lakers will win but the Red Dragons are in a tough spot playing #17 F&M at home tonight.

If you asked me which SUNYAC team would be 3-0 after the 1st week of the season, I think I would have bet a lot if money that it wouldn't be Fredonia. :o But good for them, I'm glad somebody's helping our in region winning percentage. 8-)

Cortland actually lost 78-74 in tight struggle. RDragons hold 42-38 halftime lead and in late going up 68-67 on pair of B. Manning ft's. Widener connects for six straight points, a steal accounting for a pair. Widener clinches with two charity flips in closing seconds. For Corts it was J. Smith and J. Winter with 21 pts. apiece. Winter landed 3x6 3s, 10x11ft. H. Hefele with 5 assts. Consi sees Delaware Valley elude PS Mont Alto 86-73

New Paltz fell behind early and was down by double digits after nine minutes. Hawks closed to within 7 or 8 a couple of times, the last at 31-24 with 7 minutes to go in the period. The Royals increased their lead and were up 47-34 at the break. 2nd half it only got worse, as Scranton put them away in the opening 7 minutes of the period with a 21-5 burst that made it 68-39 with 13 minutes remaining.

Harris Wichard led the Hawks wth 23 pts. (4x12 fg,3x8 3's, 4x6 ft). Matt Devine had a double-double with 12 pts (3x10 fg, 1x2 3's 5x5 ft) and 11 rebounds. Hawks 16x49 fg, 7x25 3's 20x31 ft. Lost the board battle 41-36 and had 19 turnovers to only 7 for the Royals.

Scranton placed 4 guys in double figures led by guard Travis Farrell with 16 points.

Apparently early season hopes of  the return of former all conference center Jayquon Anderson didn't happen as there's no sign of him in the box scores or on the roster.

Lakers up 54-45, biggest lead of the game with 4:14 to play.

magicman

Wells just took advantage of 2 Laker turnovers and have tied the score at 55 with 26 seconds left.

Oswego's Sean Michele hits a triple at the buzzer to give the Lakers the win at 58-55. Whewwww!!! ::)

Is it just me or does Oswego's live stats page suck. Still showing the Wells game at 54-45 with 4:14 to play 30 minutes after the game is over. It hasn't been right all year so far. Hope they're not paying sidearm sports for this lousy service. jdex or thebear are you having similar problems with them?
