Hard to believe that Oneonta didn't score a field goal after that one at 9:08. Even worse is that they only scored 2 points after that in the final 9 minutes and nothing after 2 free throws with 7:28 left to play. They were 0x14 in the last 9 minutes with 4 turnovers and only got to the line that one time.

Oneonta shot less than 20% FG% in the second half.  That's a level I haven't seen very often and this is my 42nd year following college basketball.

They would have been better off pulling a Grinnell and chucking up threes within the first 10 seconds

I thought Hartwick was one of the favorites in the E8.

Games on tap for Friday evening:

Cortland St. at Buffalo St. 8 PM

Both teams undefeated in conference play. Bengals own a 4 game winning streak over the Red Dragons and their lofty ranking is on the line this weekend against their 2 toughest conference contenders. Bengals thinking a lot about tomorrow's showdown with Oswego, can't overlook these Red Dragons. Cortland will look to limit Bengal possessions and work the shot clock. They don't want to get into a track meet with the Bengals. Oddsmakers have made Buffalo St. a 9 point favorite. I think that Cortland is a year away from the top echelon but still capable of an upset here. Would need Winter, Smith and Manning to start raining three's for that to happen however. I think the Bengals stay focused and take care of business, but it won't be easy. Buff St. 76 Cortland 70

Oswego St. at Fredonia St.  8 PM

Oswego comes into this game on a roll having won 6 straight after a season opening hiccup. Fredonia playing better than early season predictions with a 6-1 log against D3 competition. I think the oddsmakers fell asleep on this one though as the Lakers are listed as a 1 point favorite. If the Blue Devils can lose to New Paltz by 17 on the road then they can lose to the Lakers by double digits at home. I feel the spread should be more like 11 so I'm going with Oswego 68-57.

Brockport St. at Potsdam St.  8 PM

I think Brockport has got to start winning some ballgames. I stated on Tuesday that they must be the best 1-5 team in the country. Well now their 1-6 after Tuesday's beatdown by the Lakers. Hard to figure how, basically, the same team that made it to the finals of last year's YAC tournament and was picked to finish in the top 3 this year is off to such a bad start. It's deja vu as they started out 1-5 a year ago before winning 5 of their next 6. That 1 loss was to the Bears in Potsdam. Bears are struggling as well having troubles offensively, losing 3 in a row before eking out an overtime win against celler dweller Oneonta. Oddsmakers have called this game a pick em but Port has played a tougher schedule and been more competitive. I think Green and Williams will be too much for the Bears as the Golden Eagles win 75-67. Hope I'm wrong on that one though.

Geneseo St. at Plattsburgh St.  8 PM

Plattsburgh State has to put this game in the win column if they hope to achieve their goal of a home playoff game. Losing two close games on the road last weekend will hopefully show the young Cards how important it is to protect their home court. Geneseo's slow start has been against some quality teams and they will come to play. Posted line has the Cards favored by a highly inflated 13 points. I won't be surprised if the Cards cover but I see it more like a  72-65 Plattsburgh win.

Just back from Potsdam - Brockport Game.  Solid effort by Eagles who were without leading scorer and rebounder Kyheem Green, who didn't make the trip.

Bears hampered by foul trouble (3 of top 6 fouled out in regulation) and a myriad of missed shots in the paint.

Geneseo margin over 'burgh is a shocker to be sure.

Knew I was in trouble when the Cards came out for warmups and John Perez was in street clothes. Still, Plattsburgh played like they hadn't played the game before, and unless Perez could have pulled a Burridge, there's no way the Cards would have won this game with him. Took the Cards 11 minutes and 37 seconds before they hit double digits. Of course when you have 14 possessions in that time and end up with 9 misses plus 5 turnovers you aren't going to score many points. Geneseo beat the Cards off the dribble, off of screens and off the glass. They had a double digit lead 6 minutes in and built it to 21 with 4:42 left in the period at 33-12. Cards must have caught Red Dragon fever (the Oneonta Strain). They couldn't buy a basket and more often than not weren't even close. Only twice in the entire 1st half did we score without a Geneseo score coming immediately after. Once early and once late. In between the Blue Knights played like they were 6-1 instead of 1-6. Plattsburgh managed to whittle the 21 point deficit down to 14 on several occasions and went into the locker room down 40-25. Any hope of a comeback in the 2nd half was quickly put to rest as the Blue Knights extended their lead to 20 by the 13:22 mark and grabbed their biggest lead of the night 65-39 with 8:46 left to play. Final score was just a question of how much.

Geneseo had 3 players in double figures led by Mike Hoy who has been unusally quiet so far this year. Guess he was saving it for the Cards. He led the Knights in scoring last year but came into this game with only a 6.7 ppg average. Tonight he had 14 pts (4x7 fg,1x3 3's, 5x8 ft) and also led the team with 6 assists. Ryan Riefenhauser tossed in 13 pts (5x7 fg, 3x4 ft) and Conner Fredge came off the bench and added 11 pts.(3x5 fg, 5x8 ft). James McKenna also came off the bench and was the game's leading rebounder with 7 boards to go with his 9 pts ( 4x5 fg, 1x2 3's, 0x1 ft). Jordan Jones and Abe Miller both scored 9 points and had 3 boards. The Blue Knights shot a sizzling 27x51 from the field (52.9%), 5x12 from the arc (41.7 %) and 25x35 from the line (71.4%) Rebounds were in favor in the bad guys as well 33-24. Stat sheet shows 15 turnovers for Geneseo and 13 for Plattsburgh but I think there's something fishy there.

Cardinals were led by back up point guard Mike Mitchell with his 1st game in double digits as a member of the Cards. Mitchell scored 12 points (4x10 fg, ox2 3's, 4x5 ft) and had 6 assists with 2 steals, in 20 minutes of playing time. Shavar Fields had 10 points (3x5 fg, 4x6 ft) but his playing time was limited due to foul trouble. Bench players Jordan Moody (8 pts in 15 mins.) and Anthony Hodge (7 pts 3 steals in 8 mins) were two of the few bright spots for the Cards tonight.
Plattsburgh shot 19x51fg (37.3%), 5x16 3's (31.3%) and 20x33 ft (60.6%).

It doesn't get any easier for Plattsburgh tomorrow as the now 2-6 Golden Eagles invade Memorial Hall looking to move up in the standings. Plattsburgh falls to 3-5 (1-3 conf).
Geneseo improves to 2-6 (1-1 conf) and will make the 90 mile trip over to Potsdam to take on the Bears tomorrow afternoon.

About the only consolation I got tonight was my picks went 3-1 to improve my record to 28-6 (82.3%)

Oswego getting a scare from Fredonia tonight. Maybe the Blue Devils are better than I think or maybe Oswego was thinking ahead to tomorrow. Final a little tighter than I thought.

Cortland also throws a scare into the Bengals. Bengals also looking ahead? Red Dragons trio not to hot from arc land which they needed to be in hopes of an upset. Buffalo with at least a 4 game win streak versus the Red Dragons now.

Brockport winning without Green on the road surprises me a little, since they couldn't win with him. That doesn't bode well for the Bears when they visit Brockport later on. Don't know if I would have picked the Golden Eagles in this game if I knew that ahead of time. Pretty sure I was going to pick Brockport over my Cards tomorrow. May have to rethink that. But if the Cards play the way they did tonight, Brockport could be with out Green, Williams, Ivy and Jackson and still win. As I said before the season started and I'll probably say it again, it's going to be a roller coaster ride with this young team.

Just got back from the BENGALS Sports Arena. Tough game...Good win...face Oswego in less 16 hours... BENGALS need to play their best if they hope to win!
