The other two games on tap for today:

Brockport at St. Lawrence     6 PM

This is a tough game to call because of the absence of  Brockport's big man, Kyheem Green. Still no word on his playing status. I'm guessing he won't be in uniform as this type of injury usually takes some time to heal. Brockport (2-7) like a number of YAC teams has been off for over 3 weeks. Unlike some of the other matchups today their opponent, SLU has also been off for an extended period of time. Saints last played on December 3rd in a listless 54-47 win over a winless and usually pitiful Elmira team (0-10). If they play like that again, the Golden Eagles, even without Green, will have them for lunch. Saints sporting a 3-3 record with losses to Plattsburgh, Ithaca, and Keene State, but do have a big win over #20 Oswego St. (Lakers only loss in their season opener). Saints are a solid team but struggle at times putting points on the board. In three of their six games they have only scored 54 points. Not a good number to be stuck on. SLU has only played 1 home game all year (the Oswego game). I'm thinking that if they can beat the Lakers in the friendly confines of Burkman Gymnasium then they should ground the Golden Eagles but it will be a low scoring and close affair with the Saints winning 61-59.

Oswego State at D-I Texas-Pan American    8 PM

The premier match up of the day. Lakers hope to succeed where 39 other teams have failed. D3 's best chance of a victory over a D-I team is this game I believe. The pointspread has the Lakers as 10 point underdogs and I think that's probably about right. Texas-PA is not a big team and they are having problems against other D-I programs. They played D3 Wentworth Tech on December 15th and defeated the Leopards 65-48. Wentworth hung with them for the first 17 minutes of the period and they were only down 25-20, but the Broncos went on a 15-4 run in the final 3 minutes to go up 40-25 at the half. Leopards played them tough in the 2nd period though and only gave up 25 points while scoring 24 of their own. Bronco's big men aren't any bigger than Chad Burridge or Hayden Ward. They start 3 guards, and their 2 top scorers, both guards average 14 and 13 ppg. One thing of note is this Bronco team did travel to NYC to play St. John's and only lost to the Big East team 66-61. They actually were ahead of St John's 32-24 at the half. I'm going out on a limb here and will probably lose this prediction, but I'm taking the Lakers to give all of D3 a boost. Burridge and the boys win one for the good guys. 66-62.  Go Lakers.

New Paltz all over St. John Fisher 64-49. Nice win for the Hawks. Nice to be wrong on that prediction.

SLU and Brockport just tipped off. Went to pull up the video from the SLU website but they want you to buy either a season pass for $60, or a daily pass for  $7 to see the game. NO THANKS. There are so many games to watch for free why pay to watch one. I don't remember them charging to watch their video broadcast before. There is a live stats link and I have an audio broadcast up and running. Brockport up 14-8  over the first 6 minutes of play. No Kyheem Green in the lineup for the Golden Eagles.

Lakers at Texas Pan American will tip off at 8 PM and that is on video. Here's the link if anyone is intersted:

Live stats also available Here is that link:http://www.sidearmstats.com/utpa/mbball/index.htm

Potsdam next opponent is either DeSales or Berkeley College (NY). Berkeley all over DeSales 29-17 with 5 minutes left in the 1st half. That's a shocker.

Brockport still up on SLU 24-12 with 6:48 left in the 1st.

New Paltz 64 St. John Fisher 49.
Final score not indicative of how the Hawks dominated this game. Fisher scored the first basket for a 2-0 lead that was the only time the Hawks ever trailed. They quickly went up 12-6 and enjoyed a double digit lead nine minutes into the game at 18-8. Closest the Cardinals got was 6 points on a couple of occasions and the Hawks went into the locker room up 30-20 at the break. They stretched the lead to 14 early in the 2nd and after Fisher closed to within 6, at 36-30, seven minutes into the period, New Paltz put them away with a 13-0 run to make it 49-30 with 8:22 to play. The lead ballooned to 23 at 57-34 and the Hawks coasted to the finish line.

New Paltz was led by sharpshooter Harris Wichard's double double with 18 pts (8x16 fg, 2x5 3's,) and 11 rebounds. Matt Devine had 12 pts (3x10fg, 1x2 3's, 5x7 ft) and 8 boards. Nick Taldi added 10 pts (4x10 fg, 0x4 3's, 2x2 ft) and 8 rebounds. The Hawks also got a solid effort from Alan Siergiej, with 7 pts (3x5 fg,1x2 ft), 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 blocks and a steal.
New Paltz shot 26x57 from the field (45.6%), 4x16 3's (25%) and 8x12 ft (6.7). They had a slight edge on the boards 43-41 and committed 9 turnovers to 8 for Fisher.

St. John Fisher only had one player hit double figures and that was Jordan Gettings with 12 pts (5x11, 2x4). Hawks held Fisher's big man Jason Norsen to 8 pts (3x10 fg, 2x6 ft) and 12 boards. Fisher's problem was putting the ball through the hoop. They shot 20x59 from the field (33.9%) only 2x15 from 3 point land (13.3%) and just 7x21 from the line (33.3%). One of their worst performances of the year.

Hawks even their record to 5-5 and are off until next Tuesday the 10th when they host Potsdam State at the new start time of 6 PM

Fisher falls to 7-4 and will next travel to Ithaca this Friday the 6th at 8 PM

Brockport still leading SLU 60-50 with 9:58 to go. Kyheem Green who wasn't listed as a starter must have entered the game off the bench and is leading Brockport in scoring with 13 points in just 11 minutes of court time. I woulda never picked SLU if I knew he was back.

DeSales has come back against Berkeley  but still trails 58-53 with 4:20 to go.

magicman

Brockport pulling away from the Saints 70-54 with under 5 minutes to go.

DeSales pulls to within 1 at 66-65 on a 3 pointer with 23 seconds left

magicman

DeSales down 3 at 68-65 hits a triple at the buzzer to send it into overtime. Cameraman must have fell asleep. With 13 seconds to go Berkeley went to the line up 1 at 66-65. They make both free throws and DeSales inbounds the ball but the camera never leaves the Berkeley end of the floor. You get a great picture of the Berkeley bench players jumping up band down but no idea of what's happenning on the floor. Turns out DeSales turned the ball over with 5 seconds left and had to foul again. Berkeley misses the 1 &1  free throw, Desales gets the rebound and once again the camera never shows you the final shot, but only the empty end of the court. You can see the lights flashing on the Berkely backboard and all the Berkeley players waving the shot off but it counted and goes to OT. Would have been nice to see how far away the shot was fired up. ???

Brockport downs the Saints 84-77. Kyheem Green, who only played 19 minutes, leads Port with 17 points. Nice win for the Eagles on the road. Could be the start of a 2nd half resurgence that will carry them back into contention in the YAC.

2 minutes to tip off for the Lakers game. To hell with the Sugar Bowl!! :P Burridge and the boys will be more fun to watch. ;D 8-)

magicman

DeSales comes back from a 12 point deficit midway through the 2nd half to force overtime with a buzzer beater. They then proceed to misfire on their first 2 shots and turn the ball over 3 straight times and fall behind 74-68. Berkeley goes up 77-70 and holds off the Bulldogs 83-77 to relegate the hosts to the consolation game tomorrow, probably against the Bears.

Oswego scores the first 2 points of their game. Go Lakers.

Oswego falls behind by 10 31-21 with 1:20 left in the half.

Lakers down by 10 at the break 33-23. Broncos are a little more athletic than our guys and are gettin to the rim for a lot of points. At least 7 fg's were either layups or throwdowns. Both teams with 8 turnovers. Lakers have yet to go to the line, while the Broncos are 5x6 from the stripe. Thought a couple of fouls called on Oswego were very questionable. Oswego's shot selection needs to get better. Only 11x29 from the field and more importantly only 1x10 from beyond the arc.  Broncos shot 13x28 and 2x4 from 3 land. Burridge with 8 pts leads the Lakers, Gilke has 6. Ward needs to step it up. Only 2 pts and 1 rebound. Lakers need to come out and get  this game back to single digits in a hurry or it could get out of control. Need a 2nd half comeback like the Bengals had on Sunday.

DeSales University refusing to show the Potsdam-Alvernia game on video. Mad cause they lost I guess. They're showing a replay of their defeat on video. Live stats are available and the Bears are struggling. Down 17-6 after 10 minutes, they still trail by 10 at 25-15 with 2:23 left in the half.
