Four games on the schedule tonight, all at 8:00 PM

Geneseo State at Oneonta State

Blue Knights continue to rebound from a 1-6 start, going 5-2 in their last 7 games. Currently in a tie for 3rd place with Plattsburgh and Buffalo State, at 4-3 in the Yac, but own the tiebreaker over both teams as of now. This weekend could provide some separation in a 5 team logjam. Geneseo has lost 2 games that they'd like to have back, the letdown at Potsdam, the day after routing Plattsburgh, and the narrow loss to Fredonia that was decided by a zebra with less than a second on the game clock. Oneonta is still looking for that elusive 1st conference win. I don't think they'll find it tonight either. Oddsmakers have installed Geneseo as a 2 point favorite, but I think they'll win by more than that. Blue Knights 72 Oneonta 58.

Potsdsam State at Buffalo State

Bears continue to struggle. Bengals starting to struggle. Injuries could come into play for both teams tonight. Bear's All Conference guard Curtis Pierce missed the end of the Plattsburgh game and all of the St. Lawrence game. The offense will feel the effects of his absence. Bears haven't scored more than 56 points in 5 of their last 6 games. Equaled their season's lowest output of 42 points on Tuesday at SLU. Bengals missed All Conference forward Justin Mitchell in a huge way last weekend, dropping back to back games for the first time in over a year. Status of both players are questionable for tonight. Potsdam is currently tied with Fredonia for the final playoff spot and tomorrow night's game against the Blue Devils may go a long way in determining who ends up with it. Buffalo State looking to sweep this weekend and get back in the regular season race. The posted line has the Bengals favored by 18, and even with out Mitchell the Bears seem up against it. I think the final will be something like 81-59.

Brockport State at New Paltz State

Brockport saw their first winning streak of a disappointing season come to an end Tuesday night with a narrow 67-66 loss at Geneseo. A sweep last weekend found the Golden Eagles in sole possession of 3rd place but they've since fallen back into 6th place a half game behind the group in 3rd. The good news is Kyheem Green is back and firing on all cylinders, plus they get to play Oneonta tomorrow night. The bad news is they have to take on New Paltz in Hawk Center and the Hawks have only lost 1 conference game there (to Buff St.) this year going 3-1. It's a good thing because they've yet to win a YAC game on the road. Plus their 3 home wins have been against the bottom 3 teams in the standings. Both teams love to push the ball and I expect this game to be fast paced. Brockport is favored by 3 points and I think it will be a close game but I don't know if it will be that close. Brockport is 9-1 the last ten times these teams have met. I think it will be 10-1 after tonight. Brockport 83 New Paltz 76.

Plattsburgh State at Fredonia State

I'd just as soon not make a prediction here, because I'm not sure what I'm going to say. Cardinals need to go 1-1 this weekend to stay in the race for a upper division spot. This would appear to be the easier of the 2 weekend games and their best chance to grab a W. They literally have had an up and down season. They have finally put together 2 wins in a row, but making it to three will prove to be a challenge. They haven't played well on the road with their only 2 victories coming against 2 teams with a combined 5-22 record. It's basically a team of freshman and sophomores playing against a veteran Fredonia squad of juniors and seniors. Experience factor alone should give the Blue Devils the edge. Fredonia has to make a push to get into the playoffs. With a schedule that finds them finishing against the current top 4 teams in the YAC and more importantly their final 2 games on the road at Cortland, then Oswego, they need to get their wins when they can. Oddsmakers have made the Blue Devils a 6 point favorite. I see them winning this game 70-68.  What was I thinking? ???  I can't do that. Plattsburgh wins this game 70-68. ;D There I said it, my heart's on my sleeve. Go Cards.....Please.  (I just know I'm going to regret picking The Cards, because my entire body of knowledge tells me Fredonia's going to win this game. But what the hey, my season's record is pretty gaudy and I can afford a loss, should that happen. Besides Fredonia, at home is only 4-4 against the Cards in the past 8 years.) Did I say Go Cards!!!?

Buffalo State 86 Potsdm State 63

Potsdam hung with the Bengals for the first 5 minutes with a 10-10 tie but Buffalo outscored them 16-6 over the next 6 minutes to take a double digit lead at 26-16. They increased that margin to 40-24 with 3:42 left in the period. After reaching a 19 point advantage they went into break up 45-28. With 5 minutes gone by in the 2nd period the lead was at 28 and it was just a matter of what the final margin would be. With 10 minutes left in the game Coach Ansari started to empty the bench.

Nico McLean led 4 players in double figures with 17 points. Jake Simmons had 16, Roderick Epps had 12 and Stephen Alexander had 10. Ahmed Nagaya led the Bengals in rebounds with 11 while scoring 8 points. Bengals shot 32x65 fg, 10x22 3's, and 12x16 ft. They had 38 boards to 33 for Potsdam and ended up with 16 turnovers to 21 for the Bears.

Geneseo 61 Oneonta 51

Numerous ties and lead changes highlighted a back and forth first half with Oneonta owning the largest leads of the period at 17-12 and 23-18. Geneseo fought back on each occasion and the teams went into the locker room tied at 30 when the half ended. The 2nd period started out much the same way with the team trading baskets that saw the game tied 5 times befor the Blue Knights used a three ball by Thomas Decker at the 11:44 mark to grab the lead for good at 46-43. Oneonta closed to within 1 at 48-47 and then went over 8 minutes and 16 seconds without scoring a point, as the Blue Knights built an insurmountable lead of 61-47 with under 2 minutes to play. Geneseo never scored again in the final 1:57 but didn't need to as the Red Dragons could only manage 4 points themselves to make the final a 10 point margin. Oneonta only scored 21 points in the entire 2nd half and only 4 points in the final 10 minutes, 2 of which came from the foul line. This is almost an instant replay of the game that Oneonta played against Hartwick earlier in the season.

Geneseo had 3 players in double figures, Jordan Jones, Matt Curry, and Connor Fedge all with 10 points. Jones and Ryan Riefenhauser led the Blue Knights with 7 rebounds each to win the glass wars 35 -27. Geneseo had 12 turnovers to 10 for Oneonta. Blue Knights were 21x45 fg, 6x10 3's, 13x21 ft.

Oneonta was led by Dan Lee with 11 points. Cameron Boyden had 9 points and 5 rebounds. They shot 17x47 fg, 5x14 3's, 12x21 ft.

Geneseo almost evens their record as they improve to 7-8 and keep pace with the Bengals with a 5-3 mark in the league. They will travel to New Paltz State tomorrow afternoon at 4 PM.

Oneonta falls to 1-14 on the year,  0-8 in the conference. Tomorrow they will most likely  fall to 1-15 as Brockport comes to town in a 4 P M contest.
