SUNYIT might get it done, which could screw up Utica because C-State would get one of the precious C bids.

hey whats up everybody...I know everybody is going to be surprised with what happend this weekend but for someone who played for years at Oswego and for people who have followed SUNYAC know that every other year or so there are those weird teams that make it.  For example New Paltz in the championship recently, even when we made it five years ago was a surprise.  Even though it hurts to watch my lakers lose when they were ahead the whole game i was a little shocked.  Sunyac much like big east every game tough.  I have one more thing to discuss I know ive read a lot of stuff on here about gibbs-smith and how people are getting on him about his game, but its simple he wins and he makes his team and teamates better. Personally i never had a problem with him we were always cool to each other and he guarded me everytime we played, he respected me and i respected him so you can knock him all you want but he took his team to the championship game.................

Yeah the SUNYAC and the Big East have so much in common. Its like you could interchange any of the 2 teams. Come on man.

Fisher and RIT tied at 61 with 23.7 seconds remaining in Pittsford. Is this Black Friday?

In last year's championship game the Lakers came out of the locker room looking scared, fell behind early, and never mounted a threat. This year's team came out confident, trailed for a total of 37 seconds early in the first half and was up 35-30 at the break. Mims in double digits, Burridge controlling the post, Perioli running a smooth point and a couple of buckets, and Franze with help had Gibbs-Smith under wraps. Only a huge 17 from red hot Anthony Williams kept the Cards close.

Looked like the Lakers were ready to close this one out early when they opened the 2nd half with a little 5-0 run to take a 40-30 lead at 17:46, but the Cards didn't crack and played the Lakers even for the next 10 minutes trailing 59-48 at 5:53. Still thought it might be time to warm up the bus. Brian Hatch and Travis Gorham were playing big inside but Gibbs-Smith was getting hammered and held every time he touched the ball although not getting to the line. Oswego was still up 63-53 at 4:44.

Cards score 5 straight and close to 63-58 at 2:58. On the next two possessions, Oswego scores a deuce before cards hit another big 3. Lakers time out up 65-61 at 2:02

A huge 4 point swing after the time out. Oswego inbounds and works the ball to Burridge. He backed his man into the middle of the lane no more than 5ft out and everyone in the arena, including everyone on the floor, expected a drop step or jump hook from point blank range. But he inexplicably chose to kick the ball to Mims on the left wing. Not a great pass and Mims was simply watching Burridge post up – ball rolls out of bounds to the Cards. On the other end, Gibbs-Smith made a great cut down the left side of the lane with a huge catch and finish on what looked to be a too high lob to bring the Cards within 2, 65-63, with 1:29 remaining.

Oswego worked the ball deliberately in the front court against tough man defense. Franze drove the lane and was tied up in double team at 1:07. Oswego ball on the baseline. Lakers got nothing out of the inbound and Perioli was forced to take a wild 3. Never found the rim – Plattsburg ball on the clock violation at :54.

Perhaps the Lakers were looking to double G-S or Gorham, or perhaps they expected the Cards to run some clock, but Anthony Williams, impossibly alone on the right wing extended drained another 3 to put the Cards up 66-65 with :39 on the clock.

Once again, the Lakers went to Franze, with worse results than the previous possession. Franze was whistled for a charge on the base line. Plattsburg ball at :21. Lakers quickly foul Antwane Williams, hits 1 of 2 FTs. Cards up 67-65.

Lakers go inside to Burridge – fouled - to the line for 2 with 2 on the clock. Can't convert, Gorham grabs the board and is fouled. Converts both to seal the upset while the Cards bench and fans explode.

They say a close game is a coach's game. For the Cards T-Curle, who has had his share of grief and aggravation over the last 2 years, I'll say no more.

I agree with everything you said except for Oswego came out scared last year.  Usually when u beat a team by 20 when they are 19-0 and ranked in the nation they have revenge on there mind.  Also you have to understand there were only two players who had made it that far before Oliver and Ponza, and other have not been that deep in SUNAYCS before.  Potsdam played a good game defensivly and offensively and deserved to win.  Here is the problem, when Oswego needed a bucket last year everybody knew who they were going to, when geneseo needed a bucket you knew zera was getting the ball, when potsdam needed a bucket you knew they were going inside,  this year the lakers  are lacking that go to player.  Sometimes that is the problem with a well balanced team such as Oswego.  Talk about history, Oswego upsets Plattsburgh in 01-02 to go to finals, then Plattsburgh upsets Oswego in first round of Sunyacs, and now the Plattsburgh once again upsets Oswego.....

I would like to congratulate SUNYIT and Plattsburgh on hard fought victories

On the one hand a gentleman coach forced out of his previous school, shows that with age and experience comes success.

On the other hand, an outspoken team leader who as his team on the verge of the long sought after championship.

Who will win?

As I predicted Cortland is out.  They will make the NCAA with a quick visit.  They have a good team. They have no key leader as all the previous post show.

cstate19

your on the right track bear......just a lil off.....cortland has plenty of leaders......they have no go to guy....i have said it over and over.......down 3 with a lil bit to go simon takes it to the rack but cant finish......no go to guy......everyones been saying it all year and everyone is right.....lets hope they get in and play just a lil bit better.........my game ball???? SUNYIT's coach.....a 2-3 matchup zone is a perfect way to stop the dragons good job IT......cortland...lets get in and get it done...all the faith in the world

At SUNYAC web Plattsburgh 94-73.  Looks like SUNYIT didn't show or they played zone and Plattsburgh shot the lights out.  Anyone have stats?

Gibbs-Smith has the chance to put his foot where his mouth is.  Does he have what it takes?

To all the Gibbs-Smith haters.  When it counted he brought his team to the big dance.  This is what a team leader a go to player does.   If he remains focused he can take his team deep into the tournament.  The success of Plattsburgh is all based on his performance.

Good Luck and represent well!!!!

If there are no more upsets the following 8 schools should make the ECAC upstate tournament.  In no order

Rochester, Utica,St. Lawerence, Union, Oswego , Potsdam ,SUNYIT ,Brockport
