As the final game of our season comes to a end..I'm grateful. I'm grateful for having known 3 young men like Seth Runge, Anthony Hamer and Jake Simmons. I can say that these 3 seniors have made me a better person, a better man and a better father. I just wish that thier season didn't end like this. They deserved better. I couldn't be prouder of these 3 seniors. :)

   Go BENGALS ...FOREVER!!!! ;)

Bengals have to be the most talented 7th place team in the history of the 'yac.

Yesterday also the last day on the hardwood of Jerry Welsh Gymnasium for Bears stalwart Curtis Pierce who finishes tied with Bear Legend Mike Deane for 6th on the all-time scoring list with 1447 points, and 6th on the all time rebounding charts with 725 career boards.

Well done Curtis, you will be missed.

Tried to post this back on Friday night but have been so sick that I just couldn't get it done.
I can't believe the biggest game of the year was in Plattsburgh Friday night and I didn't get to see or hear a thing about it until it was over. Several days ago I was fairly confident that my Cards could finally end their losing steak against the Red Dragons. Then our best player went down on Tuesday against Potsdam. I saw that happen and cursed the zebras because their inaction led to John Perez's injury. Several seconds before the injury took place Perez was hammered so hard, that anyone who knows anything about the game would have called a foul. This crew however kept their whistles silent and 3 seconds later Perez got hammered again which put him down and out with a leg he couldn't even stand on. They didn't call a foul on that play either. I hope I never again have to witness a game in which Kevin Garrity, Andy Atkins, or Mike Gunther are the officiating crew. These guys were pathetic. I've never in all my year's of commenting called out a crew by name since I used to be a ref and would basically give them the benefit of the doubt. These guys however, were out of line most of the night. And now John Perez has his season come to end with a fractured tibia because they didn't do what the job required. What's even more tragic about these officials is a number of calls they made that were so blatenly the exact opposite of the hard fouls they didn't call. In the 1st period with 13:26 to go they called a foul on Chris Manning that was as much a phantom foul as you'll ever see. The Plattsburgh coach registered a mild complaint and to show him and everyone else who the boss was the same official called another phantom foul on Manning 5 seconds later at 13:21, effectively ending the players first half as he now was on the bench for the remainder of the period. This guy is one of those officials who obviously thinks the game is about him and not the teams invovled. Someone needs to do D3 a favor and get this guy back doing church leagues where he belongs. This crew missed so many obvious fouls on both teams, yet called fouls when there was little or no contact, that the word consistency isn't part of their vocabulary.

The bottom line is a young man is now faced with a rehab assignment, the loss of the chance to play for a championship, and possibly a chance to play in the NCAA tournament. It not only affects him but certainly hurts the team since their best player will be missing and it's hard to replace your leading rebounder and 2nd leading scorer. I can only hope that John's ability to bounce back from this injury with out any serious complications will prove to be the case and he'll return next season for a great Senior year.

As for the 3 aforementioned officials, I hope you never again grace the inside of Memorial Hall. Or any SUNYAC gym for that matter.

FRONT PAGE STORY (Democrat and Chronicle - Rochester NY) on JAKE SIMMONS this past SUNDAY

http://www.democratandchronicle.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2013302170030&nclick_check=1

It is probably the most concise recording of what this kid has been thru in his life. Congrats to Jim Mandelaro and the staff at  the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle.

Bengalsrule - Thank you so much for posting the article about Jake Simmons!  Plus Karma for sure!  What an heartfelt story. A true story about the courageous spirit of an accomplished young man.  Haven't felt well for the last couple of months (guess old guys like Magicman and me just watch ourselves get more and more decrepit-no offense Magic - know you have been "under the weather" too.)   Haven't been to a game all season and know every one of my favorite teams has been eliminated by the skin of their teeth Clarkson, Hamilton & Buff State but every once and while you get to read a story like that and you know that the game of basketball transcends sport and sometimes operates on a higher plain.  It just makes me smile. Thanks again.
