Gordon Lyons of Geneseo State was selected as the SUNYAC Player of the Week  for week #3. here's the write up from the YAC website:

"Lyons scored a game-high 24 points, including the game-winning put-back as time expired, to go along with nine rebounds as the Knights escaped with a 76-74 victory at Medaille, Monday night. Lyons shot 10-of-16 from the field, and also registered four points and three steals in the win."

All 10 teams in action today as conference play begins.

Friday Dec. 6th

St. John Fisher  vs    Brockport State      6:00 PM
Wendy's College Classic @ Roberts Wesleyan

Good test for both teams. Fisher is 1-1 in SUNYAC play losing to Buffalo State by 8 and beating Geneseo by 8 in a come from behind win Wednesday night. Freshman Keegan Ryan is the real deal for the Cardinals and could prove to be a handful for the Golden Eagles. Ryan was held in check by Geneseo in the 1st half of Wednesday night's contest but broke out for 14 points in the 2nd half to help turn an 11 point deficit into the win. Brockport hopes their quickness and guard play will carry them. Point spread has the Golden Knights favored by a 6 point margin. I'll go with Brockport to win 84-79.

Geneseo State  at   Rochester Tech      8:00 PM
Wendy's College Classic  @ RIT

Blue Knights can't be happy they let one slip away on Wednesday evening. Not about to make the same mistake here. RIT's loss to Brockport the other night was their 1st defeat after opening the season with 5 wins. The competition got a little tougher against Brockport, however, and tonight they will find more of the same. I'm surprised the oddsmakers have made RIT a slim 1 point favorite. I think that Geneseo will win this matchup by double digits. Something like 76-65.

New Paltz State  at   Fredonia State      8:00 PM

Two teams desperately is search of a win. Both enter tonight's game with 2-4 records. Both coming off double digit losses. At least the Hawks loss was against a quality team. Offense has been a problem for New Paltz lately, struggling to score 60 points. I think they break out of that slump tonight. Point spread favors the Hawks by 5 and I'll go with that...New Paltz 74-69 over the Blue Devils.

Potsdam State  at  Cortland State      8:00 PM

The Bears haven't had much luck against Cortland lately having lost 4 in a row to the Red Dragons and 11 of 14 over the past 7 years. I don't see that changing much in tonight's game. Cortland is undefeated at 3-0 and coming off a 16 point win against rival Ithaca on Tuesday night. Bears on a 4 game losing streak, found themselves on the short end of a 69-67 score at St. Lawrence the other night. Point spread has the Red Dragons favored by a whopping 21 points. I don't think this one will be pretty either. Bears will fall once again by a 76-58 margin.

Oneonta State  at  Buffalo State      8:00 PM

Both schools on a 3 game losing streak but the Bengals have faced stronger opponents. Two of Buffalo State's losses have been by 2 points each and could easily have been games in the win column. Oneonta also with a couple of close losses that could have went either way. Point spread has the Bengals listed as a 7 point favorite and if the boys from the Queen City need any motivation they only need to look as far back as their last game against these Red Dragons when Oneonta pulled off a 72-67 upset. That game this past February was a loss that basically prevented the Bengals from making the SUNYAC playoffs last season. Bengals have won 3 of the last 4 games but Oneonta leads the series 7-4 over the past 7 years. I think the Bengals have more scoring options than the Red Dragons and revenge is a great incentive. Bengals win this one 90-81.

Plattsburgh State  at  Oswego State      8:00 PM

This is the featured game of the night and should be closely contested. Both teams with early season success as Oswego sports a 4-1 record with only a loss to visiting Neumann College by a 69-58 margin. Cardinals have a 3-1 log marred only by a 78-74 road loss to Richard Stockton. Of minor interest is the fact that Richard Stockton traveled to Neumann College and handily beat the Knights by a score of 101-79. It's the old "we played well against the team, that beat the heck out of the team, that beat you by double digits." Sometimes that logic works and sometimes it's useless. I look at the recent history of the Cards and the Lakers, which shows that Plattsburgh won both games last year, but the Lakers won 4 in a row previous to that, during the Chad Burridge era. The Cardinals hold an 8-6 edge over the past 7 years. The oddsmakers have made the Cardinals a road favorite here and pick them to win by a 4 point margin. I think that the Cardinals, who won a close game at Oswego last year, when the Lakers were a bit stronger than they are this year, should prevail.  The talent lost through the graduation of Hayden Ward, Sean Michele, and Chris Gilke hasn't been replaced. Daniel Ross, Kyle Covley and Rashawn Powell are fine players and are certainly capable of leading the Lakers to a win here, but I think that the Cardinals, who lost very little from last year's team, should be up for the challenge.  John Perez, Shamoy McIntosh, Chris Manning, Jordan Moody and Ezra Hodgson all return as starters from a team that was 20-8 and made the 2nd round of the NCAA's.  If they play like they did on Tuesday night (109-76 win) they'll blow out the Lakers. I expect they'll be a bit more down to earth though, and see them winning this game by a 78-70 score.

Oh wise and sage 1. I sure hope u r right about at least 2 of ur predictions tonight :)

I am wondering if either you or Hawkbill can tell me what's up with Sowah??  I noticed that he didn't at versus East Conn.  No mention as to why he was not on the bench Tuesday night.

I don't have a clue why Sowah wasn't playing, and Hawkball hasn't been around because the Hawks haven't been winning. ;)

Buffalo State with a big lead over Oneonta as they lead 47-25 at the half.  Justin Mitchell with 16 and 7 rebounds. Rod Epps with 10 points are the leaders for the Bengals. MIkey McElroy with 8 and Zac mager with 7  pace the Red Dragons.

Cortland leads Potsdam 38-26 at halftime. Bears without big man Rob Duquette.

Lamard Herron with 21 points at the half to lead all scorers. TJ Hefele is next with 9 points for Cortland.

Potsdam is led by Zac Adams with 7 points.

magicman

Oswego State looking to topple Plattsburgh as they have led from the start and go into the break up 39-28.

Plattsburgh playing sloppy on both ends of the floor and the Lakers are taking advantage of their mistakes. Brian Sortino and Daniel Ross lead Oswego with 10 points each.

Jordan Moody with 8 points and Ed Correa with 6 lead the Cardinals. Cards had more than twice as many points at halftime on Tuesday night. Used up their allotment for the week I guess. Better get their act together in the first part of this upcoming period or it could be a long weekend.

magicman

New Paltz with a slim lead over Fredonia at the break, 38-35. Nick Taldi with 9 for the Hawks. Taylor Sowah is in the lineup tonight for the Hawks and has 3 points.  Tyrone Clark leads Fredonia and all scorers with 17 points.
