I saw the Eagles won two games without the services of Poison Ivy. I hope he will be available for next weekend's SUNY tourney(?). The Eagles looked pretty good on video, but that was against one playoff team and a non-contender. They will play hard and definitely have a winning attitude but not sure enough to get past Geneseo or Plattsburgh, if they can win their semifinal. I am definitely pulling for them and wish them all the luck. Go Eagles!!!!

Bengalsrule,
I'll be at my store next Friday in front of my computer from 6 PM to 8 PM watching Plattsburgh State taking on Geneseo in all probability. I assume you'll be home watching the same game on your computer. Give me a call.

Ill be calling for sure my friend, for sure! ;)

You have to like Plattsburgh's chances in getting the AQ without the services of John Ivy for Brockport. IF Geneseo wins the game vs Oneonta and could get the win over Plattsburgh, that should be enough for them to get a Pool C bid.

I think we could have an upset winner brewing in the SUNYAC! Oswego Has Cortland who I think they will beat. And then Banged up Brockport who I think they will beat. Oswego could win 3 games. This team plays really well in big games... they are young and hungry

Having to win consecutive games on the road against the likes of Geneseo, Plattsburgh and/or Brockport will be a tough task for Geneseo. Their game against Cortland will be difficult as well. Could be too much to ask of them.

Fixed it for you. ;D

If Oswego beats visiting Cortland on Tuesday night, they will play Brockport in the semifinals in a true road game. If they manage to defeat Cortland and Brockport, and advance to the Championship game, then they will get the winner of the other semifinal. The Championship game won't be a true road game for Oswego since it will be played on a neutral court. The other semifinal will be the Oneonta/Geneseo winner (which should be Geneseo)  vs Plattsburgh.

The new D3hoops Top 25 Poll was released Monday evening and the 3 SUNYAC teams continue to be the only teams in the East Region that are receiving any votes.

Brockport State had a 2-1 week and lost for the first time since Plattsburgh beat them back on February 7th. The Golden Eagles lost at Oswego when preseason All American John Ivy had to leave the game with an injury and Brockport couldn't mount a comeback without their star. They did rebound to win both games over the weekend. I'm still not sure of the status of Ivy for the remainder of the season. Brockport ended the regular season with a 22-3 mark and won the regular season SUNYAC championship with a 16-2 record. They dropped from #14 in the Top 25 Poll to #16 and saw their point total fall from a season high of 279 down to 199.

Plattsburgh State with a 3-0 week, moved up from the #42 spot to the #30 spot in the others receiving votes category. The Cardinals gained 11 points and now have 20, which is their high for the season. Apparently a 21-4 record in the SUNYAC isn't what it used to be. ;D They finished in 2nd place 1 game behind the Golden Eagles with a 15-3 conference log. The Cardinals ended the season on a 5 game winning streak and had a double digit margin of victory in every game.

Geneseo had a 2-1 week and had their point total fall from 29 down to 17. They were #33 in the ORV category last week and occupy the same spot this week. The Knights are the 3rd team in the conference to register a 20 win regular season, as they head into the playoffs with a 20-5 overall record. The finished 14-4 in the conference and as the 3rd seed will take on Oneonta tonight for the right to play Plattsburgh on Friday in Brockport.

The Massey Ratings continue to rank all 3 teams considerably higher as Brockport holds down the #8 spot with a Strength of Schedule  of 61. They were ranked #5 before their loss.

Massey has Plattsburgh close behind at #11 with an SOS of 57. The Cardinals have held steady at that spot for the past 12 days. They will await the winner of tonight's quarterfinal game

Geneseo, with their loss last week, slipped 8 spots and is now ranked #29 by Massey with an SOS of 88.

What's interesting is that of all the conferences in Division III, the ONLY conference with 3 teams that ended the regular season with 20 wins is the SUNYAC. And they may be one of only 2 or 3 conferences that get 3 teams into the NCAA tournament. Right now every projection that I've come across has Brockport, Plattsburgh and Geneseo highly placed for a Pool C bid. Two of these teams plus the tournament champion should be dancing come Monday afternoon. 8-) Great season for our conference and hopefully the best is yet to come.

The SUNYAC Player of the Week for the last regular season week was Cortland's Kevin McMahon. The big win over Geneseo on Tuesday, which went a long way toward clinching a playoff spot, and the 39 point effort against Oswego on Saturday afternoon, pretty much made him a lock to win the honor this week. Congratulations Kevin, on another great week. Got to meet the young man and his parents when he came to Plattsburgh last week. Mentioned what a pleasure it's been watching him play for the past 4 years.

Here's the write-up from the YAC website:

Kevin McMahon, Cortland
Hoosick Falls / Hoosick Falls

McMahon averaged 31 points and 11 rebounds per game and shot 63 percent from the field (71 percent from 3-point range) in a 1-1 week for the Red Dragons. He opened the week with 23 points and 15 rebounds for his 10th double-double of the season in a 65-53 win over Geneseo. McMahon scored a career-high 39 points on 16-of-21 shooting from the floor in a 78-76 overtime loss to Oswego Saturday. He made a layup with 10 seconds left to force the overtime period.

Thank you Magicman. I suppose I should clarify the "road game" comment by saying their games won't be in the comfort of their own gym for the semis or finals. For a team looking to make a run like they would be, that's a tough task to beat good teams away from home.

When the 'Yac DOES get 3 bids in the NCAA I want everyone to remember who first predicted that would happen and when that prediction was made!

I can't wait until the season kicks off for real next weekend! I'm predicting that the 'Yac will have 3 teams in the NCAA's. Thats right magicman...3!!!! Good luck to all.

And NYHOOPS8... we hope to hear from you again! ;)

Go BENGALS!!! :D

It won't be the exact 3 I had in mind  :( but my prediction is looking damn good (provided Geneseo wins tonight).  ;)

Say Oswego State upsets everyone and wins the SUNYAC. Will Geneseo be definetly out? I am almost sure the NCAA Committee will not have 4 SUNYAC teams in the tournament

If they lose to Plattsburgh I could see it.  What happens if Geneseo beats Plattsburgh and then loses to Oswego??  It's possible they could get 4 in that scenario.

Geneseo probably has to win the conference to make sure they make the tournament... I realize they are #3 in the last regional rankings, but it isn't like there is anyone behind them that is going to move ahead that probably won't get an AQ (anything can happen, though). I don't think the East is that deep and being #3 in the region is my danger line - like #3 in the Atlantic, #6-8 in the NE, #6 in the Mid-Atlantic, etc.

If Plattsburgh or Brockport wins the conference tournament and gets the automatic Pool A bid then Geneseo will be 2nd in line from the East to get to the table. I think the East Region will get 2 Pool C bids. If Geneseo wins tonight and I think they will, by double digits, then they will be 21-5. Even if they lose in the semifinals and end up 21-6 I think they get a Pool C bid.

First round of the SUNYAC Tournament tonight.

#5 Cortland State  at  #4 Oswego State

The Red Dragons vs the Lakers round 3. Cortland certainly hoping the old axiom that you can't beat a team 3 times in a season is true after losing the first two meetings to Oswego in the past 2 and 1/2 weeks. Lakers are tough in Max Ziel Gym and after putting it to the Red Dragons by a 60-41 score earlier this month they'd like nothing more than to get that kind of separation again. The oddsmakers have favored the Lakers by a 5 point spread this time around. With the overtime loss on Saturday still ringing in their ears I expect Cortland to give a much better account of themselves than the last time they were in Laker Hall. I still don't think they win though and predict the Lakers will advance with a 72-65 victory.

#6 Oneonta State   at  #3 Geneseo State

A lot of Red Dragons traveling the roadways through Central and Western NY these days. Use extreme caution if you meet up with them, especially after the games, as they will probably be in a foul and angry mood. These Red Dragons have their work cut out for them as they try to put the heat on Gordon Lyons and company. Like the Lakers in the early game, the Knights will be looking to prove that the 3rd time is not a charm for Oneonta. Red Dragons have been without their number 1 scorer the past few games and his status is unknown to me at this time. The oddsmakers have made the Knights a 9 point home favorite and I don't think it matters if Zach Mager plays or not. Geneseo beat Oneonta 83-69, a bigger margin in the game he played in on Jan 25th, than the one last Friday that he missed which was a 68-63 Knight win. I think the Knights will move on to face Plattsburgh on Friday night and will win this game by a 78-68 final score.
