Anyone else take notice of conference and some N-C game starting times for 2014-15? Men to play before women. Evening games underway at 5:30

I found out about that around July. I think it will hurt the attendance at the Women's games since many people would go early to catch the 2nd half of the Women's games and then watch the Men's games. I'm not so sure that the crowd will hang around after the Men's game is over. It may also hurt the attendance at the Men's games since it may prohibit a number of fans from getting to the gym for the early tip off. If you can't get there until 6:30 or 6:45 PM you missed so much of the action that people may just bag it. I think it will hurt attendance for both teams. I understand why they did it but don't think it's a good idea. I believe more people may just stay home and follow the action online.

Sadly enough, I think that Magicman is right. I hope that he is wrong, but in the past I know that the crowds at Buff State start to trickle in around 7/7:30 p.m.. I can't say I remember when this system was used before! Tuesday night, 5:30 tipoff vs Brockport just wont bring what it brought in the past. On the plus side, I gotta imagine that getting home from a road trip at Plattsburgh/Potsdam on Jan 31st at 10 pm, instead of 2 a.m.,  may be a plus for my beloved BENGALS!

Most men's and women's teams do travel together, jdex, but the teams from the Queen City have separate buses. :o ;D  So Bengalsrule is right....they (the men from Buffalo State) will get home 3 to 4 hours earlier from their road trips than they used to. The rest of the SUNYAC schools won't get home any earlier though. It was Bengalsrule who first told me about the time change back in July. He didn't seem too happy about it then. ???

Since my post of the other day, I have been informed that a majority of the Men's coaches seem to be in favor of the switch to the early starting time and they feel it will be beneficial to their players. I've also been told that more families will attend the Men's game since it's earlier. Now the kids can get home and be in bed at a reasonable time.

I think attendance at both games will be affected in a negative manner despite what I was told. We shall see.

Magicman....been following the topic a bit.  Nescac did the switching of men and women games a while back....in a rotation system.  Thought it was to improve the attendance at the games. I do not know if it helped the women's attendance.  I do know that more families with young children...little girls..show up for the women games...especially on the weekends.  I do not know if the games for the women will follow the men this season...no schedules...or the conference is still on a rotation system.
At Amherst there is no charge for games and the local community support the team's accordingly...social event.  For big rival games, it can be " brutal" to get a spot in the gym..even when more stands are added.
In short...it is/was? an experiment, IMO.  The best way to get fan support of teams is to provide a fine product...an enjoyable experience for both the players and fans.  Amherst has contracted with an commercial company to provide game webcasts this season.  Impact on live games attendance unknown...again it is not an monetary concern for the school or the conference.  A little info for you

Update....based on a posted Colby schedule....seems the men's game during the week starts around 7PM.  This indicate that the "experiment" maybe on hold or dropped..  Weekend games. Around 3-4 in the afternoon.

Wow, with that logic, the women's games should have been standing room only! "More families will attend"? I could understand for high school teams but most teams in SUNYAC have a vast majority of their players from other towns/cities (I think). At BSC families aren't our main crowd. Students and former teammates and coaches of current players and their families, make up the bulk of our attendees! heck many coaches volunteer their time after they finish their regular job. A 5:30 start will cause some to miss , or just make, the tip off! I guess getting extra time for a pre game warm up is another plus for going first (but the idea still sucks - IMHO)

I must admit that the BENGALS Mens coaches (talked to a couple last night), are more appreciative of separate buses for Men's and Women's teams. There is nothing like getting back to Campus in Buffalo at 2 a.m. in a snowstorm and having to stand outside and wait for your ride to pick u up on campus (shiver)! At least at 10 p.m. you have a couple of local restaurants where one can sit in and wait. Plus  the wife should still be awake at 10 p.m. to come get you! ;)

Champ,
Sorry I couldn't talk with you for very long when you called me a few days ago. Had a store full of customers at the time and they were all in a hurry.

So you once again are the victim of another cancellation at the last minute. It hasn't been a good year for scheduling. My Cardinals finally got the 2 games they needed to fill their schedule after the Buff State tournament didn't work out. I was hoping we might get a home game out of the re-scheduled games but no such luck. To take the place of the 2 games we lost on 11-21 and 11-22 when the Coles Tournament was supposed to be played we end up with a game at Western Connecticut on 11-21 and then travel to Skidmore on 11-24. Plattsburgh will only play at home 10 times this season and 9 of those games are conference matchups.  The only non-conference game we have at home this year out of 7 non-con games is Middlebury.  At least that game, which should be our toughest non-conference game is the one that's at home. I'll be watching my Cardinals online a helluva lot more than I wanted to this year. We'll just have to win the regular season conference crown so I can get a couple of more home games. ;D

So now Buffalo State goes to the Montclair State tournament thinking they will play two Division III opponents only to have one of them cancel out. And the replacement team, which you get to play in your first game, is Penn State-Mont Alto, a non DIII school. It just isn't your year I guess. Penn State-Mont Alto is a USCAA school that plays in the Penn State University Athletic Conference against all those other schools that have Penn State and a hyphen in their name. The good news is they were one of the better teams in that conference as they were 23-6 last year. They return 6 players from last year that account for 43.5 ppg of the 78.5 ppg that they averaged.

I dug deep into my magic bag for some links to give you these tidbits of statistics that you would have never found in a million years of searching.

Stats from last season which I challenge you to find anywhere:
http://www.psuacsports.com/sports/mbkb/2013-14/teams/pennstatemontalto?view=lineup

The roster from last season:  http://www.psumontaltoathletics.com/sports/mbkb/2013-14/roster

The posted roster from this season which is only showing the returning players at this time as the recruits and transfers aren't listed yet:   http://www.psumontaltoathletics.com/sports/mbkb/2014-15/roster

Hope this helps you with your scouting reports.

68 hours until practice can officially begin. 31 days and 68 hours until game day. I can't wait. 8-)

PS: Congratulations on the Bengals big win over Ithaca in football on Saturday. That will set up a huge game against St. John Fisher in a couple of weeks that could be for the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. I've got my fingers crossed.

Yes indeed. A big win for my BENGALS! After spending a few weeks over on the football boards I'm looking forward to the civil conversations that we have here at the 'Yac basketball site.

P.s I got married last Thursday! ;)

WOW!!! That is BIG NEWS.    Congratulations, I imagine that Mrs. Bengalsrule is one happy lady.

Does last Thursday mean October 9th or was it Thursday October 2nd?

The best day in October was Wednesday evening Oct. 15th as I got to see the Plattsburgh State Cardinals sweating their butts off on the first official day of practice. The Cardinals return a ton of talent and they are my pick to win the conference after consecutive back to back 2nd place finishes. They will be pressured by Geneseo, Brockport, and Oswego. Buffalo State, Oneonta, and Cortland could surprise depending on the returning players and new faces that may make an immediate impact. New Paltz, Potsdam and Fredonia will look to close the gap on the teams that have been in front of them for the past few seasons. Can't wait to see the rosters listed a few weeks down the road.

The Cardinals lost 3 starters from last year and yet they return 5 starters. (It's a Cardinal Conundrum) Not many teams in DIII can make that claim. 4 of those 5 starters have averaged double figures in scoring either last year or 2 years ago.

The Cardinals ended the year last season by advancing to the Sweet 16 despite the loss of key players down the stretch. They were ranked #24 in the final D3hoops poll and Massey had them ranked at #15 is his final poll. I believe that this year's team could be better than the NCAA teams of the past 2 years. I think they should be ranked in the DIII hoops pre-season poll based on their finish last year and the returning talent but I won't be surprised if they're omitted. Plattsburgh has made the NCAA tournament 6 times in the past 9 years which is more than any other team in the East Region. Coach Curle will once again have the problem of giving ample court time to so many talented players. Should be another excellent season in the SUNYAC and I hope the conference can duplicate the success it had last year when 3 teams made it to the NCAA tournament. In reality I'll be happy if we get 2 teams into the Dance. Good luck to all the players and teams.

Fear not oh Wise 1!   I predict that your Cards will be ranked 19 th in the first poll of 2014. They had one helluva season last year and I doubt that Curle is expecting any less from this years group. I can actually picture you in the gym yesterday just grinning away! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I believe you'll be correct, but not because I didn't try. I made multiple attempts to get preseason information from Plattsburgh and was unsuccessful.

I believe that Magicman could possibly be the best Plattsburgh source there is! He should be able to give you whatever you, and d3hoops, need to help determine their preseason rankings.
