Thanks for the birthday wishes guys. Hope to get a good present in about 2 hours when my Cardinals claim the Lycoming Tournament Championship. (Quickly knocks on wood as he says this)

Plattsburgh State getting ready to take on Lycoming in a few minutes. I think that the Cardinals with all their veteran players and their depth will be too much to handle for the host Warriors. Lycoming lost a lot of players from last year's team and I believe that Plattsburgh will walk off the floor with a 78-69 win.

Oswego State will take on another Empire 8 team this evening at 6:00 PM as they face off with the Hartwick Hawks. This time the oddsmakers have made the Lakers a 3 point underdog. Something tells me that Oswego will not want to lose a 2nd game in their house to start the season  and I think this team is too good to do that. I think they come away with a 74-70 win over the Hawks.

Plattsburgh State breezes to a 47-30 halftime lead over Lycoming College. The Cardinals lost 2 starters early on as Shamoy McIntosh and Reggie Williams both got into foul trouble and spent most of the period on the bench. Cardinals had no problem with that though as Jordan Moody came in for McIntosh and proceeded to hit 5x9 including 2 3 pointers to lead the Cardinals with 12 points at the break. Moody also had 3 rebounds. Kyle Richardson also came off the bench to take over for Williams and he was effective as well scoring 8 points with 5 rebounds. Eddie Correa led the team with 8 rebounds and also had 8 points.

Nykolas King was the main man for Lycoming with 10 points and 5 boards.

Celebrating my birthday and getting phone calls from around the country today so I wasn't able to make any comments about the early games that the YAC teams played.

Brockport State lost to Roanoke by a 83-61 final score. The Golden Eagles fell behind after a 10-10 tie and never gained a lead in this contest. Roanoke steadily increased their advantage and led at the break by a 35-26 score.

Brockport kept it close for the first 5 minutes of the 2nd half and was only down 45-39 with 15:28 to go. Less than a minute later however the margin was 12 points and 3 minutes after that it was up to 18 points. The margin just kept getting bigger and Roanoke led by as much as 27 as they coasted to the finish. Clifton Lyerly was the only Brockport player with double figures as he had 17 points.

Fredonia was able to post a win over a non-D3 school Pitt-Titusville by a score of 75-50 in the consolation game of the Allegheny Tip Off Tournament. No box score is available yet

Plattsburgh State put the capper on my birthday as they are coming home with the championship of the Lycoming Tip Off Tournament, beating the Warriors by a 78-64 final score.

I almost had this one pegged as I predicted a 78-69 Cardinal victory.

The Cardinals who led the entire game entered the break with a 47-30 lead and extended that advantage to a game high 20 points late in the 2nd half. Plattsburgh was never seriously threatened in the 2nd period as the lead was double digits the entire half.

Foul trouble on 2 starters limited their minutes considerably as Shamoy McIntosh only saw 8 minutes of action and Reggie Williams managed only 13 minutes of floor time. Both players had 4 fouls and Shamoy got his 4th foul with only 3 minutes gone by in the 2nd period. It didn't matter as the depth of the Cardinals simply meant that 2 different players would have the chance to shine today and shine they did. Jordan Moody came into the game when McIntosh got 3 quick fouls in the 1st period. He paid immediate dividends and ended up as the leading scorer in the period with 12 points. He added another 10 points in the 2nd half, coming in as McIntosh's replacement once again. He scored 22 points in 20 minutes as he shot 9x15 from the field, 3x7 from long range and 1x1 from the line.

Kyle Richardson would start at 99% of the schools in Division III and if he continues to play like he has, may very well end up as a starter at Plattsburgh. For now though he remains a valuable weapon and a matchup nightmare for opponents when he enters the game as the second wave. Kyle snagged his first double-double in a Cardinal uniform in just his 2nd game as he scored 13 points (5x10 fg's, 2x6 3's, 1x1 ft) and 10 rebounds, 4 on the offensive end.

The Cardinals got another double double from Eddie Correa who managed 10 points (3x12 fg, 2x8 3's, 2x2 ft) and 11 rebounds. We almost had 4 guys in double figs yesterday and today we did it as the X-Man Xavier Thomas scored 11 points (3x9 fg, 0x1 3's, 5x7 ft) and grabbed 5 rebounds.

Last but not least was point guard Mike Mitchell's two day performance. Mike didn't score a ton of points, he had 9 today and 4 yesterday but he totaled 15 assists in the 2 games (7 yesterday and 8 today). He also took care of getting the ball up the floor in nearly flawless fashion today as he had zero turnovers to go with those 8 assists.

Mike was chosen as a member of the All Tournament team and Jordan Moody with his 36 points scored in the 2 games walked away with the tournament MVP award. I couldn't hear if any other Cardinal players made the all tournament team but I think it was just those two guys.

Plattsburgh once again had a decent day shooting the rock. it wasn't quite as good as yesterday but they managed to make 26x67 shots from the field (41.8%) They hit 11x30 from 3 point land (36.7%) and 11x13 from the line 84.6%. Cards won the boards 45-40 but once again had more turnovers...16 to 9 for Lycoming.

The Warriors placed 3 players in double digits as Chris Wallace led the way with 14. Nykolas King had 12 and Justin Iton had 10. They shot just 19.1% from the field, 19x61 and just 2x11 from long distance. (18.2%). They were 24x32 from the line (75%) as the zebras tried their best to help out the home team. Some pretty strange calls in this contest as the home team had twice as many free throw attempts as the Cardinals did.

Plattsburgh is now 2-0 on the young season and will hit the road twice more in the next 8 days as they travel to Western Connecticut next Friday Nov. 21st and then take on Skidmore in Saratoga on Monday Nov 24th.

Oswego State breaks into the win column with a 60-50 defeat of Hartwick.  I knew they wouldn't lose 2 games in a row at home to E8 teams.

Brian Sortino and Mark Candelario were both in the starting lineup for the 1st time this year. Sortino leads the team with 14 points. Rashawn Powell adds 12 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals. He missed a double double by a single point yesterday but got one today. Dustin Pond hits double figs again with 11 points and has 7 boards. Candelario has 9 points, 4 rebounds and 2 blocks in 16 minutes.

The Hawks were led by Matt Wilson with 17 points and 17 rebounds.

In a big SUNYAC weekend Oswego loses at home in a shocker to Elmira. I still really believe in Oswego because of all the talent they have. Once they start to get healthy they are going to be dangerous. Very good for Plattsburgh to get 2 wins and a championship. We will learn about Oneonta as they go up to Williams a top 5 team. New Paltz goes down in a close game against Hamilton. Brockport goes 0-2 at Marymount, Buff State wins against Medaille in a high scoring game. Potsdam wins against Morrisville and loses to St Josephs VT.

Only 3 SUNYAC teams in action tonight as the big storm is the western part of the state forces postponement of  the Geneseo-Medaille game.

New Paltz State at Vassar      7:00 PM

The Hawks are 0-1 after their OT loss to Hamilton over the weekend and the Brewers are 1-1 after they won the opening game of their tip off tournament before getting hammered by Springfield College 82-44. The Brewers won't have last season's leading scorer Johnny Mrlik in the lineup until next semester but should still have enough talent to win this game in Poughkeepsie. The point spread favors Vassar by 8 points and I think that sounds about right. The Brewers win this one 72-64.

Medaille  at Geneseo State      Postponed

Oneonta State      Williams      7:00 PM

The Red Dragons travel to Williamstown to take on the#5 ranked Ephs and are heavy underdogs, as the oddsmakers have made Williams a 15 point favorite. I don't think the Ephs are good enough to be ranked #5 with all the losses they've suffered in the off season and through graduation. This team is not even close to the National runner-up team of last season. The early lofty ranking was a mistake as evidenced by their opening day loss to Southern Vermont (a team that beat them for the 2nd year in a row). I'm almost tempted to pick Oneonta to win this game and it wouldn't surprise me if they did. I'd feel better though if the Red Dragons were going into this matchup with a game under their belt. I'm going with the Ephs to win a close game 77-72, but I hope like hell the Red Dragons prove me wrong and steal one here.

Utica  at  Cortland State      7:00 PM

These Red Dragons have revenge on their minds after they let one slip away against the Pioneers last year by a 71-67 margin. Not a lot to go on here as it's the opening game for both teams. The oddsmakers have made Cortland a 14 point favorite. I think that's too many. I'm taking Cortland to win by a 74-66 final score.

magicman

Oneonta has come back from a 10 point 2nd half deficit to grab the lead for the first time by a single point at 53-52  with 8:09 to play.

Cortland led Utica College at the break 36-23 and has now increased that advantage to 55-35 with 8:46 to go.

magicman

Vassar College leading New Paltz 44-34 with 13:15 remaining on the game.

Oneonta defeats Williams 74-68. Nice win for the Red Dragons.

Balance of the scoring from Friday's games.

Buffalo State went to the races as they topped the century mark in a track meet with Medaille. Final score was the Bengals 102 and Medaille 86.

I had the Bengals winning by an 82-72 margin. Didn't realize they were playing this game with a 24 second shot clock. ;D

I'll let my friend from Buffalo write up the stats....but the usual suspects, Rod Epps (23 pts),  Chris Thompson (11 pts, 6 reb), Jordan Glover (19 pts) got into the act and were joined by newcomers Kevin Marmolejos (12 pts) and transfer Derrick Fernandez (4 pts, 5 rebounds and 5 assists in his first start).

You did a fine job thier Magic!!! ;)
