Certainly doesn't look like a big (or anywhere near) SUNYAC season, at least in comparison to other circuits. Still, once conference play underway next week in earnest it would appear to be a wide open chase. Off all play thus far we will say Brockport might have the upper hand. And a couple of new recruits for second semester underscores that premise. Oswego is right there as well, we believe. Couple of narrow slips over holidays, but even without their ace at the point, Lakers look to be a load. Others stepping up well. And don't dismiss Plattsburgh despite 4-4 mark. Every loss to quality foe -- and not by much. And good case could be made for Geneseo, a veteran crew. Oops, then there's SUNYIT. Talented bunch led by C. Reaves. Just may be No. 1 team. Has that kind of potential. We also take a liking to The Paltz. Current leader Oneonta a pretender for sure, me thinks. Should break from skid Thursday night  home vs. St. Joe's of Vt.

On Wednesday's dance card: Geneseo at Pitt-Bradford for a good test; Fredonia at home gets Houghton; and Pburgh in the Springfield tourney consi at 3 plays 7-4 Colby.

I have seen a few SUNYAC teams play this year. Geneseo, Cortland, and Brockport...of the teams that I have seen I think Geneseo is the best team out there. Brockport was a close second...I can't imagine many teams in the SUNYAC being better than those two teams. If I was to place a bet, I would put my money on Geneseo to finish first in SUNY and Brockport second by a very small margin.

Obviously I have not seen Potsdam and they can always be a contender...

Time for a few SUNYACs to step up if conference wants some respect. Brockport leads the way with pair of difficult tasks (this ain't D'Youville), but at home -- tonight vs. 7-1 Hamilton, Sunday matinee with 9-0 St. Lawrence. Bports getting plenty of love as possible favorite in next week's Chase tourney. Oswego tonight at home vs. good Clarkson and tomorrow hosts SL.

Didn't mean to recently dismiss (or diminish) Potsdam's SUNYAC chances. Only 3-6 though somewhat misleading (losses to Clarkson twice, NYU, Gens, Bport, SL and hot shooting IC). But have to get things going. Could start tonight in Trinity fest. Still, tough one vs. 8-2 Westfield which hasn't played Pdam's type of schedule. That's 8 p.m. tip after 9-1 Trinity vs. 6-3 Framingham.

Also Saturday, Geneseo (looked at as middle of  road Chase pick, though we believe a more serious challenger) tunes up at Elmira (aka D'Youville?), and struggling Cortland draws more trouble at home vs. RPI

As Chucky used to say "I'm Back".  Spent the month of December in San Diego, which I highly recommend.

Daughter was ill in California, and since my wife is a prof, I got the duty.  On the mend now.  Thanks to all, especially ZOLA and crew for their thoughts and prayers.

JDEX - you are right on SUNYAC having to step it up tonite.

One correction, Potsdam BEAT B'port, coming back from 18 down in the second half to win 98-95 ('port's only loss to date).  Their six losses have been to teams with a combined record of 42-11 (.794) including unbeatens SLU and NYU.

Potsdam has a lot of freshman and sophomores in the regular rotation, and will be up and down as they develop.  Only 1 player, reserve G Devin Taft is in his third year in the program, 2 first year, 2 JUCO's, 7 sophs.

Real find has been 6-6 post Tim Reinhardt,  grew up in B'port's back yard (Hilton) attended Potsdam, didn't play at first, then walked on after C. Turner and E. Harris graduated, now their leading scorer and rebounder, with 15ppg and 6 rpg despite playing with a mask.

This could be one of those years that SUNYAC feeds on their young, everyone beats everyone else, cluster of teams between 11-5 and 6-10, all enough to dim overall records, and result in only 1 bid for the conference.

Geneseo should be good, they have size, depth, two former conference ROY's, and like all Geneseo teams, smart kids who are coachable.

Since I have official duties in the athletic dept these days, I will keep my comments to a minimum except to correct factual errors like this one.

Brockport puts on a clinic in the 2nd half and pounds a very good hamilton team 95-75. Bport leads at the half by3,and stretches the lead to 10 early in the 2nd only to see hamilton come back to take a 62-61 lead. Thats when Bport went on a monster of a run and turned this game into a rout at the 5 minute mark. Sherod Harris in only his second game looks like this is his 4th year with his teammates. If i had to guess i would say he had around 20-24 pts and 7 assts? The guards Brockport has are creating alot of problems with defenses. they were getting open look after open look. Bport missed a ton of chip shots and ft's in first half or else this may have got really ugly. This hamilton team was receiving votes in the top 25 and had already beat 1 top 25 team. Does anyone know if the whole sunyac tourney is going to be played on campuses this year? I thought i read that somewhere.

A very impressive win for Brockport tonight against a very good Hamilton team. Could it be that Brockport is positioning itself to be the favorite in the SUNYAC Conference?..From what I have seen I would have to think so...
