2 teams in action tonight from the SUNYAC

Cortland all over Elmira

Oneonta wins a close one against Williams after a lackluster performance against Plattsburgh.

A Oneonta win over Williams would be a nice shot in the arm for the Yac!!!

The Magicman is never asleep at the wheel.
He's probably getting all his information together before he makes his predictions.

By the way Great win Saturday against Oswego after a very tough loss against Cortland Friday night.

I see 7 tough teams vying for 6 spots and on any given night you better come to play or else.

All-Time......What?!  When was it played.  Thought it was around 7 PM tonight?
Was going to ask the Magicman about the SUNY team.  Strange if it was played since the post by All-Time was posted before Noon today.

Hmmm. Magicman asleep at the wheel???

If that's what you think perhaps you should look elsewhere for the answers to all your many inquiries. I'm surprised that a veteran of this board, like yourself, would even intimate that I'm asleep at the wheel. Even someone new to these boards like All-Time, knows the magicman is never asleep at the wheel. In fact as amh63 implied recently "magicman do you EVER sleep?" MY reply to him was..."Rust never sleeps...neither does the magicman"

As I told All-Time when he first came on this board...pay no attention to that Bengalsrule guy behind the curtain. ;D

Two games on tap tonight in the SUNYAC.

Williams   at  Oneonta State     7:00 PM

The Williams Ephs invade Dewar Arena and will be looking for some revenge for the opening game loss they suffered against Oneonta last year in Williamstown. The oddsmakers have made the Ephs a 3 point road favorite in this contest. They come into the game with a 5-1 record after dropping their last contest to NESCAC foe Wesleyan, by a 58-56 score. I think tonight's game will be a close game but I think that Oneonta has played a tougher schedule and will walk off their home court with a hard fought 74-70 victory.

Elmira  at  Cortland State   7:30 PM

The Elmira Soaring Eagles haven's beaten Cortland since November 25, 2008 and that was the only time in the past 10 years they have done so. They have, however, almost pulled off some memorable upsets, most recently in 2012, when Elmira lost on opening day, 63-60, to a Red Dragon squad that would post a 24-5 record while sweeping the regular season and Championship of the SUNYAC. This year the Soaring Eagles are off to a slow start with a 1-5 record, while the Red Dragons reverse that with a 5-1 log. The oddsmakers have made the spread in this game a double digit 14 point margin. Cortland should win by 20. Final score in this one should be something like... Cortland 85 Elmira 64

Oneonta leads Williams 38-28 at the half. Red Dragons with the lead for most of the period, go up by double digits with 5 minutes left and stay in front. Basket at buzzer by Oneonta waved off with a traveling call.

Mikey McElroy with 11 points and Jackson Zuvucwith 10 to lead Oneonta.

Cortland 42-33 over Elmira at the half. RDragons  with 20 bench points and lead by 11 on two occasions. Elmira starts hot and shoots over 50 percent from the field. H. Harkins 9 pts(3x4 3s), G. Leonardi 12 pts(2x4 3s).  Corts' J. Cooper and A. McGuire land treys to help hosts take control with four-minutes left in the period. Cooper and B. Estarfaa with nine points apiece for Cortland

Elmira hanging around six-minutes into the second half ......down by six before Cortland goes on 16-3 run led by Estarfaa, G. Carter, Martinez, Cooper for 61-45 edge at 10' mark.

Familiar figure officiating  is Syracusan Mike Kitts. Used to work many a D3 game till going bigtime in several major conferences. Drew the big games and was constantly on teevee. A good one. Now it's Pat Driscoll of Syracuse often seen. He, too, with a college start at D3

Crunch time in Oneonta and the Red Dragons lead 66-59 with 2:30 left to play.

jdex,

Were you able to watch the Cortland game on a webcast? Numerous times I clicked on the video link and I got a video showing the score 11-10. I would get 20 seconds of video and then it would freeze up. Every time I would get the video at the same point in the game. I got the live stats OK but no video . Just wondering if it was alright on your end?

Cortland conquers guest Elmira 80-66 with a bit of uneasiness. Nine point halftime lead quickly shrinks to 42-39 and Soaring Eagles still close till 16-3 RDragons breakaway and 61-45 margin midway through the second half. Elmira's J. Porrett connects twice to pull his side within 67-61 at 3:37. B. Estarfaa answers with 3-pointer in quick fashion and finds his shooting eye. Corts finish at the stripe. Both sides shoot 50 percent from the floor -- iidentical 28x56 but CSt 12x27 3s to Elmira 7x24. Estarfaa with 25 pts(8x15fg, 5x9 3s) in 31', Oswego transfer J. Cooper 14 pts(5x7fg, 6 rebs) in 27'; G. Carter 12 pts(5x7fg) in 30', JP Reagan 6 pts, 6 rebs in limited 21' play. Elmira's H. Harkins 17 pts (5x10 3s) in 34' G. Leonardi 14 pts in 34'; Porrett 11 pts(5x7fg)

Cortland 6-1, Elmira 1-6

Video apparently down early in the first half

Oneonta defeats Williams by a 75-62 final score.

I had the Red Dragons winning this game by a 74-70 score and if Williams had made a few baskets once they started fouling it would have been closer on their end.

Oneonta, up by 10 at the half, never trailed in the 2nd period. Williams made some runs to get it to a single possession game on several occasions, but each time they did, Oneonta would respond with a surge of their own, to open up some daylight. The Ephs were within 4 points at 66-62, with 1:25 left to play, when Bobby Casey made a 3 pointer, but Ian Shupp answered with a huge 3 pointer for the Red Dragons to make it a 7 point lead with 54 seconds left to play. Casey missed another attempt at a triple and the Ephs fouled to stop the clock. Oneonta went 6 for 6 from the line to close this one out.

Mikey McElroy led Oneonta with 19 points and 5 rebounds.Lawrence Coleman had 17 points with 7 rebounds, while Jackson Zuvic added 12 points and 3 steals. Ian Shupp had 10 points off the bench and was 2x2 from long distance. Seth Thompson had 8 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Jack Dignan had 7 assists, 5 rebounds and 3 points.

The Red Dragons outshot the Ephs from the field, from long range and from the line. They outrebounded the taller Williams squad by a 32-28 margin but had 12 turnovers to only 9 for Williams.

I thought this was one of the better officiated games I have watched all year as the refs let them play and the game had a good flow. Only 12 fouls called on Williams and 13 on Oneonta. I've been at several games already that had more than 30 fouls called in the first half.

Williams got 16 points each from Daniel Aronowitz and Kyle Scadlock. Aronowitz also led the Ephs with 7 rebounds and 3 assists, while Scadlock had 6 boards. Bobby Casey had 14 points and 3 assists.

Oneonta improves to 4-2 (1-1 SUNYAC) and will be back in action on Sunday 12-13 at 2:00 PM when they host St. John Fisher.

Williams slips to 5-2 and will host Springfield College on Saturday 12-12 at 4:00 PM.

Cortland 80   Elmira 66

I had the Red Dragons winning by an 85-64 final. I was close on both ends but needed a bit more juice from the Cortland side. 3-0 with my forecasts for the week.

Updating the SUNYAC non-conference record of all games through December 9th

SUNYAC record vs Non-Conference opponents 30-21   (includes 3 games against non-DIII teams. Buff State has 1 win and 1 loss against 2 schools that are not members of the NCAA, Geneseo has 1 loss against Roberts Wesleyan that won't count )

SUNYAC record vs Non-Conference NCAA DIII Teams     29-19  (Top 7 schools are 27-4. Bottom 3 schools are 2-15)

magicman's predictions all games (includes conference games)    46-13 (77.9%)
SUNYAC games         6-2

Jdex, it was actually Mike Kitts' son, Michael, who was one of the officials tonight.

And my apologies for our video issues. Not sure what happened. We're going to try to have video on Dec. 19, but then may not have it for the first three home games in January due to semester-break staffing issues.

Magicman....pretty good " calls " on your Red Dragon schools :)
Considering this time of the year....your "work place" must look like mission control :)
Worried about your well being though....your friends/ admirers will understand if you make a wrong call and forget a write up.

Geez, just one more poke that we're getting a bit long in the tooth  .......talk about old sayings ....yikes!!!  But if we had the video we would have known that. Mike -- the old man, has a dome like ours.  Thanks for the reminder, Fran, and the facts. You're the king there.
