Quotes from All-Time
Jon Patron is making a big Impact as a Freshman the last couple of games.                                               He is

That is trouble for the rest of the SUNYAC.                                                                                                   I hope so

He comes from a great HS basketball program at Harborfields.                                                                          So true

There seems to be a pecking order at Plattsburgh and most freshman don't get a lot of minutes.     There is and they don't, usually

He will be fun to watch the rest of the way.                                                                                                          He will, indeed

Coach Curle seems to get a lot of talent from Downstate NY                                                                        He does and always has

SUNYAC POW and  D3Hoops Team of the week (national team of the week for those who aren't familiar). Quite the honor. I can't remember the last Yac player to make D3Hoops team of the week, (I'll wait for magic to reveal that). ECAC is just a foregone conclusion (if you ask me)! ;)

The last time a SUNYAC player was placed on the D3hoops Team of the Week was RJ Rosa from New Paltz State last January 13th for games of January 5th thru the 11th of 2015. he was the only SUNYAC player to be honored last year.

Previous to that it was Kevin McMahon from Cortland State on the final regular season week of 2 seasons ago 2013-2014 for the week of Feb. 17th thru the 23rd of 2014.

I'm at work and had to wait on some customers. It is Christmas season you know and some of us do have to work for a living. ;D

All-Time

Congratulations to Kyle Richardson on POW in the SUNYAC and D3 Hoops Team of the Week.
2 well deserved honors, hoping for the trifecta.
Keep up the Great Work

And now my 1ST Annual PRE-XMAS - SUNYAC PREDICITIONS.

This season looks like 1 in which the SUNYAC may compete with some of the more elite conferences when it comes to depth and overall strength of the conference.

I predict for the 1st time, in 5 years,  there will be  a 4 way tie for first at the end of the regular season between .....

OSWEGO                                                             PLATTSBURGH                                                              BUFFALO STATE                                                                   BROCKPORT

Brockport has plenty of firepower, 4 of top 6 scorers, returning from last year including all SUNYAC slasher, Lyerly.
Oswego returns 5 of its 6 tops scorers from 2014-15 season
Plattsburgh has Richardson, Correa, Thomas, Patron, Coach Curle (and the magicman) returning so it hard to count out a crew like that.
Buffalo State has the deepest team in the SUNYAC which could pay big dividends as the season wears on its players

I also believe that the contenders for the last 2 playoffs spots, and possibly a top 4 spot,  could be between......

CORTLAND                                                           ONEONTA                                                                      NEW PALTZ                                                                     GENESEO
Geneseo loses top scorer and top rebounder in SUNYAC last year and the #5 scorer too (Lyons and Drescher) and fills those spots with 2 more scorers this year (Ringen and Decker). Experience and time will tell.
Cortland loses leading scoror, Herron and leading rebounder, McGowan, and yet Esterfaa and co. still have them running on all cylinders. Recent injury bug may be the Achilles heel of the Red Dragons though
Oneonta loses leading scorer, Z Mager, and leading rebounder, K. Williams. However Larry Coleman and Mikey McElroy are helping Red Dragon fans forget about what they have lost from last season.
New Paltz, in a good or bad season, is the 1 team that can beat anyone, on any day, at any gym. Its been that way for years. This year is no different!

last but certainly not least

POTSDAM                                                                                                                                                   FREDONIA
Potsdam has 9 freshman and 3 sophomores on their 17 man roster. This may be their breakout year however I'm thinking that Coach Dobbs is planning for the future!
Fredonia has 9 underclassmen ( 6 frosh/3 sophs) and a 1 man wrecking crew in Ian Help (top 12 in scoring and rebounding in Yac). Coach Seymore is slowly putting his brand on the Blue Devils program!

If either Potsdam or Fredonia get out then watch out!

Here's an interesting stat. The 4th ranked school in the country in scoring defense is Oswego State. The Lakers are only giving up 57.4 ppg.

The #1 ranked school in the nation in scoring defense is another SUNY school but not a member of the SUNYAC conference. Allowing a puny 56.5 points per game is SUNY-Canton, an independent in their first year as a full member of Division III.

They are 1st in field goal percentage defense as well, only allowing schools to shoot 32.6 % from the field. The 8-0 Kangaroos are also one of 15 unbeaten teams left in DIII.

The Roos own wins over 2 Empire 8 schools, Utica College and Houghton, Liberty League school, Clarkson (2 wins over the Golden Knights), SUNYAC school, Potsdam State, NEAC school, SUNYIT and AMCC school, D'Youville. The Roos haven't played a particularly difficult schedule beating up a bunch of schools with losing records but they have taken care of business with their only close games being a 77-73 win at 5-3 Houghton and a 78-71 win over Clarkson the 2nd time they played them. They will face a 5-2 NESCAC school, Connecticut College, after Christmas and possibly a 6-2 Staten Island team, in the 2nd game of a holiday tournament at Staten Island.

It will be interesting to see where the Roos end up in a year or two as they will probably look to gain acceptance into a conference in the East Region. I'm guessing the NEAC conference since they have 2 unbalanced divisions. Currently 1 division has 7 teams and 1 division has 6 teams. The division with 6 teams has the schools that are the closest to Canton so that would work out for the league and the Kangaroos.

Updating the SUNYAC non-conference record of all games through December 22nd.

SUNYAC record vs Non-Conference opponents is 36-24 This includes 3 games against non-DIII teams. Buffalo State has 1 win and 1 loss against 2 schools that are not members of the NCAA and Geneseo State has 1 loss against Division II Roberts Wesleyan. These 3 games won't count in our NCAA record.

YAC record vs Non-Conference NCAA DIII Teams 35-22  Top 7 schools are 33-5 . Bottom 3 schools are 2-17

magicman's predictions all games (includes conference games)    54-14 (79.4%)
SUNYAC games         6-2

Massey has ranked the SUNYAC 19th out of 47 conferences. This is a bit misleading because Massey for some strange reason has in his rankings the American Southwest Conference East which has 6 teams at #7. The American Southwest Conference West which has 5 teams at #9 and the American Southwest Conference with 12 teams at #13. D3 hoops doesn't split this conference and neither does the NCAA. And if you are going to split the conference, why list it again with 12 teams? The NCAA only gives the ASC 1 automatic bid among the entire conference.  In reality there are 44 conferences and a group of independents listed as a conference to make a total of 45 not 47. Massey giving the American Southwest Conference 3 different spots instead of 1 skews things a bit. Especially when all 3 of the spots he gives to the ASC are ranked ahead of us. ??? When you assign the ASC 1 placement instead of 3 the SUNYAC is really the 17 ranked conference out of 45. I hope everybody can follow that. Also there are at least 3 conferences that Massey has ranked ahead of us that I would question and think we should be in front of.

Well done Magic 1.  Got it!!!!! :).  I cant figure out why the Yac is slipping in Massey????  I'm hoping that after Yac victories over (hopefully)  John Carroll (vs Brockport) , Central ( vs Oneonta), New Jersey City ( vs Buff State), Trinity college ( vs Plattsburgh)  and a couple of others, that the Sunyac ranking will rise!

I'll be happy if we can win 2 of those 4 games. I think Oneonta and Buffalo State have the best chances of getting a W.

12-29
Buff State is favored by 2 points over NJ City. I think the Bengals will win this game as long as they get in some good practice time prior to the game. Both the Bengals and the Gothic Knights will have been off since December 12th.

12-28
Oneonta is a 6 point underdog against Central but I think that's because of Central's 8-1 record. I think that 8-1 record has been forged against some rather lackluster competition. Maybe I'm wrong and the Dutch are as good as their record but I think the Red Dragons have faced tougher teams up and down their schedule.

12-29
Brockport is a 9 point underdog against John Carroll. They will have a tough time against the Blue Streaks. They are ranked #10 for a reason. For the Golden Eagles to get a win here, they will have to play a solid, relatively turnover free game. And John Carroll comes at you in waves, maybe better than Brockport does.

There are several other games of note.

12-28
Brockport plays Bridgewater State out of the MASCAC conference on December 28th and the Golden Eagles will be a big favorite to win that game. Cortland beat this team by a 100-67 score back on November 21st.

12-29
Oneonta will face Gustavus Adolphus also in Puerto Rico. This game is not listed on the D3hoops Oneonta schedule but the Red Dragons website has them tipping off at 5 PM that day. I knew Oneonta didn't go all the way to Puerto Rico to play 1 game. Yet the D3hoops SUNYAC schedule doesn't show it either. The Gusties are listed as a 1 point favorite. They play Vassar College on the 28th. We'll get some idea of their strength when that game is over.

12-30
Buffalo State vs Lehman College or Western Connecticut. I'm thinking that the Bengals will play Lehman if they win their game against NJ City. They will face Western Connecticut if they lose to the Gothic Knights. I think that the host school, Lehman, will beat Western and advance to the championship game of their own tournament. Lehman already owns a win over Brooklyn College when they were ranked number 17 in the country. Brooklyn College had beaten New Jersey City and William Paterson of the NJAC to name a few of their wins. Bengals could have a tough matchup here if they do get to the Championship game. If they face Western, probably in the consi, I think they should win that contest.

1-2-16
Cortland at Medaille in the final non-conference game for the Red Dragons. Cortland is a 6 point favorite against the Mavericks who played Geneseo tight, before bowing 89-85. They also own a lopsided win over Fredonia, so Medaiile will be looking to go 2-1 in the YAC for the year. We can't have that.

1-2-16
New Paltz will meet it's counterpart in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, Kean University just after the New Year. We get 2 of the better teams in the YAC and NJAC matching up when Buff State takes on New Jersey City on 12-29...now we get 2 teams in the lower ranks of their respective conferences meeting up. The Kean Cougars are 1-8 and will most certainly be 1-9 by the time January 2nd rolls around. Their next opponent, on December 28th, is Division I Boston University. The Cougars won't win that game but they will get some valuable floor time to help shake off the rust of a 2 week layoff. The Hawks won't be so lucky as they will face Kean coming off a 24 day layoff. The game is at Kean as well so the oddsmakers have made the Cougars a slight favorite.

1-4-16
The final non-conference game of the year for the SUNYAC is Plattsburgh State taking on the reigning NESCAC regular season champs in Trinity College. The Bantams return 7 players from last year's rotation that averaged double digit minutes and this year have 10 players that see that much floor time. We will have our hands full. Hopefully we can pull out a win and partially gain some measure of revenge against the NESCAC for our loss to Middlebury.

One thing for sure....there are TWO working stiffs that spend a great deal of time on this board and like to show off their "colorful" technical skills.
Guess I can take an online course to get some comparable skills....do not have the time :). Need to take periodic naps after doing chores about the house and spending time on the boards ???
Carry-on Guys!
